welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!
i have seen this happen form time to time. not really sure what it is. it seems most likely it is the website. you might want to try it again later.

im having a serious problem when trying to root my evo.. i have all 3 required resources in my c:\ ANDROID FOLDER.
1.SDK ZIP FLIE
2.JAVA RUNTIME
3.HTC SYNC

SKIPPING SEVERAL STEPS....

THEN I RECEIVE MY UNLOCK_CODE IN MY EMAIL, BUT WHEN I COPY THIS fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin IN THE COMMAND IT SAYS ERROR UNABLE TO LOAD UNLOCK CODE.BIN.

ok out of curiosity what is your hboot? power off then press and hold power+vol down. this will take you to the bootloader. can you report back with all of the info on that screen?

maybe a bad download of the unlock code bin thing. Maybe try to redownload that and see if it works. Unfortunately your on the latest HBoot and I understand that its a bit more hectic than the boot method I used.

ok and to be sure, are you copying the text exactly as it is shown. it needs to be exact.

also to be sure you get this error when you enter the unlock code that is in the email and you are entering it in the command window on your pc from the android folder, correct?

yeah i am copying and pasting the exact wording from the HCTdev website into the command
So all of the previous commands worked okay? And the device is in FASTBOOT USB mode? And you saved the Unlock_Code.bin file onto your computer into the same folder as fastboot.exe? Did you verify the name of the file, and make sure the extension is correct?

A screenshot of the folder with the files in it and of the command prompt window might help us figure out the issue.

ok, so i finally rooted my evo. whats next to do? by the way i i imported all my files to my laptop so how do i import them back to my phone. also can u tell me a really good wifi tether?

what r some good roms

Sense:
sense 1.0=Tommy's EVO Classic, Numerous Stock 4.67 ROMS,
Sense 2.1+3.0= MikG
Sense 3.0= TN's, Mik3D
Sense 3.5= (haven't kept up with these lately)

AOSP:
Most would suggest cm7 or MIUI, but theres different flavors of each

i see all these threads on after rooting, but since im not a tech guy. i don't understand all this talk. so i have 2 questions. 1} is their anything i NEED to do at this point like recovery or something cause my friend is going to flash my roms and kernels for me. 2}i need a link to install superuser permission.

thanks for all ur help, bro.

If your going to have a friend flash a different ROM then you don't need to flash the superuser app because the next ROM will already have that cooked in.

As of right now, I would reboot into recovery and make a nandroid backup. To do this reboot the phone back into bootloader, select recovery, select backup and restore, select nandroid backup, then leave the first three checked, check the WIMAX box, and then start the backup.

Nandroids save everything on the phone itself (not the SD card) so that if you run into any issues you can restore the backup and its as if nothing ever happened

That means you still have the stock recovery. The below instructions will get you the best custom recovery.....amon Ra 2.3

PC36IMG_RA_2.3.zip
1.download the file.
2.rename the file by erasing the "_RA_2.3" part of the name so that it is only named PC36IMG. make sure not to add ".zip" to the name as windows hides extensions.
3.transfer the file to the root (that means not in any subfolder) of the sd card.
4.power off (you most likely need to uncheck fastboot. settings/apps/uncheck fastboot.) then press and hold power+vol down.
5.hboot should see the file and select yes to update.
6.select no to reboot because we want to go into recovery and make a nandroid backup.
7.select recovery.
8.select backup and restore and select backup
9. select the first three and wimax. the other partitions do not need to be backed up. always keep one nandroid backup with wimax keys backed up on your computer.
10.now you can reboot.
11.using a file manager of some sort or even through your computer via usb, you should rename or delete the PC36IMG file on your card. otherwise you will be asked to update every time you go to the hboot screen. you do not need that file any more.

(NOTE: These directions came from the Rooting for Dummies Guide: Gingerbread edition found here. Your phone is already rooted so you don't have to worry about the directions there, but ALL other information and instructions still apply)

You just want the file on the SD card, but not in any of the Sub-folders.

The easiest way to ensure this is to connect the phone via usb and as a disk drive. Then just open up My Computer (assuming your using windows windows here), and drag and drop the PC36IMG.zip file onto the drive that represents your phone.

for some reason hboot can not detect the file PC36IMG on my sd card. i did how u said to do it. drag it straight into my e drive(usb). i also selected use as disk drive on my evo
