Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

Previous post with 2.1 found bugs...

--

My Eris is no longer doing the things in the link. This what I did to fix it...

  1. Factory data reset (had all important info backed up)
  2. *228 option 1 to program
  3. Turned off Eris, removed SD card and copied 2.1 .zip from Caddyman's link onto it, reinstalled card
  4. Vol down/power button, trackball to input, rebooted phone, follow all directions to setup 2.1
  5. Logged back into Google and got contacts back
  6. *228, option 2
  7. Reinstalled all Market programs
  8. Bam... done.

All of the issues in the previous post are *gone* -- even the color and volume issues. There was a bit of lag while downloading Market stuff... but even that's gone. It's as nice as Caddyman described his 2.1 install was... and that's waaaaay better than 1.5 (I do miss the '%' awake time, but that's the only thing). :p

The bug that drove me to try a reinstall, was the blank 'HTC' screen and the loading pinwheel when exiting any app to the home screen. The fix worked, can't say if it was the reset before reinstalling, the act of reinstalling, the PB00IMG zip (perhaps there are slightly diff versions floating around?), or holding my tongue just right while pressing the trackball. If you're having similar problems, I'd try again. 2.1 is slick. :)

My signal stays at 1-2 bars most of the time, but i never seem to actually have a low signal.

What i get now is an icon in the notification bar at the top that lets me choose what to do. Charge, Sync, or connect as mass storage. I didn't set it up to do anything, totally auto.

Yeah, the signal strength bar is total whacked. I thought I was loosing a bunch of signal but did a *228 opt#2 and it only raised it to 3-4 bars. I checked my signal strength and it was around -60. WOW, and that's on 3 bars. Wonder what it would have been if I did *228 on 1.5? I was consistently around -70+ with full bars. Service wasn't bad either.

So far I'm blown away by the network speed and communication it's getting. Things seem more alert and battery life isn't being affected as it once was.

I installed 2.1 the night everyone found out about the leak. I've noticed that the last two mornings when I get my phone off the charger (after charging all night), my battery only shows to be 98% full. This is right when I take it off the charger from charging for close to 8 hours. Has anyone else seen this?

Other then this issue, I'm loving 2.1 and I have no regrets for doing the update. Thanks to all those on this forum for all the help!!!

Yeah, I see this too.

Yeah I get no notification, but the phone begins charging. Im at a total loss right now. I've tried in 2 laptops and my desktop all running vista fully updated.

i can only answer calls and hang up with my BT head set. no voice and no LNR

I did not see this issue. I was listening to Pandora and Music through my Motorola S9HD stereo headset just fine.

For some reason the sound cut out in the middle of the song.

The music was still playing but the BT service failed. Big problem. So far it hasn't done this to me but I haven't tried it out much.

I had a quick question, in the contacts section of 2.1 do we now have the little bar that pops up with all the options in it (ie. email, message, call)? I loved that feature on the droid but the eris is a better phone so I went with it.

It isn't there anymore. No idea why, the site did suck though. I'm using i.wund.com now. Much better, IMHO.

Thanks. I thought it might have been a link due to a program that I installed in 1.5 that gave me that link to weather. And now that you mentioned it, that site wasn't very informative at all. wunder is a much better site anyhow.

Ive read in earlier post about new notifications for mounting sd card to pc. I don't get any notification when i plug it in. Ive tried a number of times. Is there a setting I need to enable/change somewhere? It starts charging and led lights up but no option to transfer files or anything.

Phones with 2.1 Firmware---When you connect your phone to the pc, pull the notification bar down and where it says charge only, press on it and it will bring up a menu with options to charge, sync and disk drive (mounting the phone)...

I got a battery question!...

If I go to: settings>about phone>battery>battery use>
It says Navigator is using 56% of my battery since last unplugged.
I used navigator last night driving home with it plugged into the car charger. When done, I used the back key to get out of the program.

Any idea why navigator is using so much battery??

Got another bug to add to the list. Some times when on a call, if you pull the phone away from my ear to look at the screen, it stays black, as if the sensor did not see the fact that it's no longer against my ear. It's happening randomly. Anyone else seeing this?

It happens on 1.5 too if you keep it too far away from your ear for too long. I don't know if it's the same issue but I just push the trackball and it comes back up. Dont press the end key though, like you would to wake up the phone, I did this a couple of times and, of course, it will end your call (it will bring up your screen though :) )

I called customer service (*611). The guy said that they are updating their systems, and this is why I cannot get my phone to reprogram. He said I should be able to program, and re-enable my service my 8:00am.

I hope he is right...

No, he's actually wrong. If you did a factory reset, there's an identification number that's stored on the phone initially, and the factory reset kills it. It happened to me where it would fail to program after a factory reset. I called Verizon, I ended up going into the same menu where you switch the slot cycle index, but this time I had to go to another option and enter a really long code. After that everything was perfect.

Sort of sucks MLB At Bat isn't there. I had purchased it on both my droid and my wife's eris. Now can't get it back on the Eris. Ugh.

I don't think it used 56% of your entire (total) battery capacity. It sounds more like, of the battery amount used since your last charge, 56% was for Navigator. I know some of my apps like iheartradio and pandora use large percentages.

Let's say that you had 20% charge left on your battery, and it says that 56% usage was for Navigator. I would assume that Navigator used 56% of the total used (80%)... thus a little over 40%.

I see what you're saying, but I used navigator when plugged in. After done with navigator, i unplugged the charger and have not used navigator since. The battery usage screen says "when unplugged". It shouldn't count the navigator usage because i had it plugged in. Make sense? Or am I totally missing it? lol.

Wow! Turned off the background data when I went to bed, woke up and still had 97% of my battery. That is a big improvement. I used to have about 84% with 1.5. I also like the fact I can turn off the haptic feedback so the 4 buttons at the bottom of the screen do not vibrate.

maybe I am a dummy, cuz I have asked before. Bu doesn't 2.1 support multiple exchange accounts? I tried to add a second exchange account and the only options I get are POP, IMAP or APOP...can anyone tell me how I can add a second exchange acount.

Ok, I finally figured out the gmail not syncing issue from another thread a long while back. When you look in running services, GTalkService has to be running. I force stopped it because I don't really use Gtalk, just easier to text. Suffice to say that when it's running, the mail pushes. I did notice that I can kill it with Astro's process manager, just don't force stop it.

Since going 2.1 seems like I have worked out most of my bugs, all of which were reported and fixed here. Thanks everybody.

Except for.... low signal strength on the meter, and people I'm talking to complaining of hearing themselves echo while talking to me.
