Root Official HTC EVO Design 4G

Honestly, I don't see the need for 3D images and the 4g may sound good but it depends on your area. I can barely even see the difference. And there seems to be awesome improvements via root that can make the Marquee even better. Don't give up the Marquee yet D:
Don't get me wrong I love the marquee but it's nowhere near the 3D spec wise or otherwise for that matter. I don't need some of the features my marquee has but I like having them available. You've never used a 3D. Sure you don't need 3D images but after you play with a 3D you WANT them. Trust me.
What can boost get that can seriously compete with the 3D?
A galaxy SII would make me think about it......

Though Boost is no where near getting the Galaxy SIII, that phone would be quite awesome!
And I have toyed with a 3D phone a few times, and my Laptop has 3D option. I just never use it. That is just my personal feeling towards it I guess. It is something I can take or leave it and not really bother me either way...

I like the Evo 3D because it has a dual core and way more stuff that can be ported over to run on VM. My friend has one with Sprint and it is night and day compared to a single core phone.

I agree on the dual core for sure! Everyone knows dual core is better than single core. I wonder if their dual core has hyper-threadng? Anyway yeah a buddy of mine has the Samsung Galaxy SII.. and it is pretty sweet I cannot lie about that... Though it won't be enough to sway me since I am on super low budget haha.

I'm gonna wait til Boost comes out with a 4G phone for Samsung personally, I wouldn't mind even seeing an LG 4G phone at this point considering that the Marquee has been a helluva phone up to this point, interested in seeing what's in play for the next LG phone as far as the Marquee is concerned...
I also agree there, I will have to wait for a different phone myself. I cannot see Boost pushing out only one 4G phone, except for at first to "test the waters" so to speak. I am sure by the end of this year there will be at least a choice between a couple 4G devices. I just hope I have a job by then lmao.

I'll tell you guys something right now, I used to have an EVO 4G when I was on Sprint and even though it was a nice phone the customer support and the fact that they won't honor their warranties for them constantly blaming the customer for doing something to the phone that their warranty doesn't cover, my Dad had the very same issues with his EVO 4G and he swore never to buy another HTC because of it. Don't get me wrong the EVO series may be good phones, but I think everyone needs to check into the manufacturer's reputation and long-term support before shelling out that kind of money for a device that you may like but later find out that their customer support and warranties suck.

well that's exactly why virgin mobile offers warranties and why i buy mine at best buy with a year long accidental if anything happens as long as it isn't rooted or they cant check for root best buy will change it. water damage, broken screens or just playin' malfunction

Very good point. And to me it just seems foolish to jump and be an early adopter for these phones, our marquees just got really good, for me I see no point in getting a new for for at least another nine months

These are my Requirements for me to upgrade my Marquee
  • 1.2 GHz Single Core Processor preferably Qualcomm
  • Or
  • 1 GHz Dual Core Processor
  • 4.3in screen or bigger with qHD resolution or WVGA but only if its 4.3in
  • Android 4.0 (ICS)
  • 4G Connectivity, because I actually get decent WiMax Reception here in Charlotte.
  • Front Facing Camera 2MP or 1.2MP doesn't really matter
  • 5MP Camera or better
  • 720p Video Capture
  • Relatively thin around 10mm or less (EVO Design 4g is hella thick)
  • A whole day of battery life
The big screen is a biggie for me lol I would live a 4.5in Screen.

I think this should of been posted in Boost Mobile's section.

I'm getting this phone as well as the Evo V for Virgin Mobile.
I always get the newest phones out for my two carriers.
It's going to be a hefty financial choice but my monthly bills will actually stay about the same.
Virgin Mobile will actually be cheaper by 5 dollars because I'm demoting it to the 300 min. plan instead of the 1200 min. plan.

I adopted a phone number of a person leaving the country. So on Boost I'm on the $45 dollar Android plan already. So awesome. LOL I skipped a year of payments I didn't make.

I really liked the 3D functionality of the other phone but this one seems nice too.

Sounds like you are looking for the Evo V (3D). It meets all those specs.

This is going to be my next phone coming from the thunderbolt is basically the same phone except it has a smaller screen so when i went for the tb to the marquee it was a backstep for me the only thing for me is the time it would take devs to root ics on an htc phone.

just curious... why the change of heart about the Marquee?
I agree.. I mean I know it is not the best smartphone out there, but for a prepaid phone I am Loving it! Not much of a difference between the Design and Marquee realistically as I was saying before. Sure the Design has 4G and ICS, but that is about it...

you could argue that there's not much difference between the marquee and triumph how ever the triumph handles everything a whole lot smother than the marquee the launcher had very little lag where the marquee has quite a bit and over all apps and responsiveness just work better on the triumph.

perfect example the triumph could handle the nintendo 64 emulator the marquee lags like hell its almost unplayable.

I am not trying to sound demeaning, but I do not use the NES EMU though I do play a few games. Most aren't to resource heavy though I suppose. Also, I do have GO SMS, GO Launcher EX, GO Contacts/Dialer, and they all run like butter on my end.. Most apps are quite responsive. I do notice a lag on certain apps if I do not free up some RAM from it sitting for a while. I will also agree that before the GPU and OC Kernels were updated it could be quite frustrating. Either way it is all up to personal preference, what you do with your phone, and how you use it. I cannot say I wouldn't like a 4G phone or have the ICS. Just can't afford it currently, and by the time I can there should be more options available for 4G besides the Design..

I agree its not a bad phone but when i compare it to the evo 3d and the fact that I'll get it for about 50 bucks all I could say is I'd rather get that phone even if virgin doesn't have shrinkage.

still it don't mean the marquee isn't a good phone, it just hasn't met my expectations when compared to other phones that have very similar specs.

I got my 3DS for 3DS photography the image quality may be crap but I don't have to worry about that I will be picking up one of the 4G phones later this year on boost if money allows it.

Hello, was just wondering if anyone has heard anything about
call volume on this phone. I have slight hearing loss and the marquee is
killing me lol. My wife has one too and has problems hearing in the car or
anywhere with small background noise. This is my 2nd android phone and the
prevail was my first and the prevail had way more volume.
I like the marquee phone but really considering trading in and getting this phone on boost.
Thanks for all the info on here.

I hope it works for you...

The EVO 3D on Virgin is really sort of end game....There's not much out there that can beat the EVO 3D on post-paid let alone on prepaid......Boost would have to get something like a Galaxy SII to even be in it's ballpark....Even then the SII won't wow anybody with 3D pictures the way the EVO 3D will for a few more years....Dual core, ICS, 4.3in screen, 3D photography......This game is OVER...And I left a grandfathered Virgin plan for the Marquee....:(

lol, it sounds like a lot of us are in the same boat. I literally just left VM to come to Boost for the Marquee because the Triumph sucked.

I guess I should pose the question even though I have a feeling I already know the answer from all of you. I came over to Boost on May 7th and I have 30 days through BestBuy to return the phone. The Evo 3D comes out on May 31st.

Should I go back to VM for the Evo 3D? I am loving the Marquee hands down. I'm stuck between having a 4.3" Brick that is pretty nice or having the small compact smooth Marquee.

Thoughts, comments!

Funny, same here. I JUST bought the Marquee about 3 weeks ago after switching from Virgin Mobile having the Triumph. You could imagine I was not exactly happy that they announced the Design 4G And the 3D for VM right after getting my Marquee. The Marquee is a great phone, I just regret getting it slightly now.

The Evo Design 4G phone has been around for awhile and isn't one of the models being blocked at customs. It probably won't effect Boost's planned release of their first 4G phone. Sprint can just as easily just move to another brand for their 4G LTE service so I don't think they would suddenly revoke Boost's access to their older WiMaxx system. Samsung no doubt has some to choose from by now.

Glad I don't have Sprint. :P
