Root Questions with Tommy's Classic Rom V1.0?

I just went from decks reloaded to this because I haven't been on a Sense Rom in a while although I still have some questions and recommendations on it. First off, when I go in to the classic control panel it has an option to give you the ability to turn on your Evo with the volume rockers. I select this and for some reason nothing happens... so is there an app or something that will give me the ability to do that? Also I have heard that you can theme this Rom.. can you tell me how to do this and recommend some good themes if any? Also I dont really like the Boot animation because of the sound and I saw an option in the classic control panel that allows to insert your own, how do I do this? And lastly can anyone recommend any kernals for this Rom (preferably sbc)? Thanks!

The only custsom SBC kernel is the underworld kernel.

Themes are in the OP over on the XDA thread. Wipe dalvik cache, cache & flash

You can disable the boot animation sound (or the boot animation entirely) from the classic control panel app. If you want to change your sound simply rename the sound you want it to the mp3 bootanimation sound. You'll have to look because every ROM names it kind of different.

I see a mod to wake up the phone with volume rocker, but not one to turn in on. I dont know if thats what you mean

Is there anywhere that I can actually find custom animations? Not that I need it but of would be pretty cool. Also I want the volume rockets just to wake the phone, not to power it on. And can I get a link to the underworld kernal that you mentioned for this Rom? Thanks.

Bootanimations:
Search either XDA or here. Theres plenty of threads on them. Chances are you wont find a lot of sound ones because most don't use sound, but there are tons of boot animations and splash screens.

Volume rocker mod:
make sure you arent using the volume buttons for music control.

Okay I am getting ready to flash the Kernel right now. And I also found some threads about boot animations, thanks. Also I have the volume buttons for music control off and still it wont work. Is there or something that I can get this to work?

Is the ROM fully updated through classic control panel?

Are you trying both volume up/down or only one or the other? It looks like some people are having issues and others arent. Tommy is aware that some are having problems

Just updated it like a half an hour ago but no go. I have tried all the options it lets you but no luck. I am thinking about trying the CM9 port from dirt, is it any good?

Havent used it myself but I'm sure it is.

Are you sure you updated both the ROM (required restart) and the classic control panel app? Current version is 1.3.0 and the one it ships with is 1.0.0

When I went into the classic control panel it prompted me with an update so I think I only updated the control panel. How do I update the Rom itself? Does it require a factory reset?

When you open and it prompts and it does its thing and reboots the whole ROM thats the ROM update.

You update the ccp by going over to "modifications" within the app and selecting check for updates

It worked! Thanks so much! I would like to give cm9 a try though. I have a question about it. Do I have to flash gapps? The download link says it has d2sd. I have heard of that but what is it? Also it says to be able to use it you have to have a partitioned SD? What's is that? Sorry for so many questions, I've just never had a chance to ask these. Thanks again though.

for one thing never be sorry for too many questions. that is what this forums is for anyways. so please ask away:D

yes you will need to flash gapps as far as i know.

and a2sd is a way to move the entire app to your sd card. the built in gingerbread sense apps2sd does not move the entire app to the card. only parts of it is moved while the rest stays on the phone. you will need to partition your card and it is recommended that you have a class 6 or higher card as well,

you can use this guide:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html. skip the rooting stuff. there is a section that covers partitioning and how to move apps to the sd card.

I would really like to do this although I have a class 4 16gb sd card. Should I still attampt ro do this? Also does there cm9 port have cma2sd? Or the other type?

I'm not sure which one it has. I want to say dta2sd because that pretty much the norm but the cm in cma2sd has to come from somewhere right ;)

You can check once the phone is booted by opening up the terminal emulator app from market and typing
su (enter)
dta2sd check (enter)

You can try it with a class 4 card, but any laggyness you experience on the ROM is most likely going to be due to your SD card holding it back.

16GB class 10 SD cards sell for around $15 on amazon

Is it even worth doing this with a class 4 SD card? If I partition it now with the class 4 SD and then get the claas 10, will I have to restart the process? Do I have to restart the process everytime I switch roms?

I don't think it will hurt to try it on this sd card. I did it initially with a class 4 card and had no problems. I do not run any games or real intensive apps though.

I am thinking if you have the same size partition in this card and same ext, as in 3 or 4, that nands you make would restore on the new card. Not sure if the cards would need to be the same size though.

Okay so I am partitioning my SD Card and I have done everything and now I am transferring all of my stuff back to my SD Card. The problem with that is it says it will take 16 hours to do so?? Is there a way to get it on there any quicker? I cant wait 16 hours for this?

how are you going about transferring it? do you have it in a card reader in your pc? are you hooked up to the phone in recovery via usb ms toggle?

I would think it would be much quicker to do it in a card reader in the pc.

I just hooked the Evo up via mstoggle. I just transferred all of the big files (Nandroids, music etc.) in to another folder to transfer them later. Now it says 24 mins. How do I know that my sd partitioned correctly? I am also flashing the cm9 rom with a2sd, do I need to do anything else after this for a2sd?

24 mins is closer to where it should be. I wouldnt worry too much about that.

You just flash the ROM and it should automatically put them on the SD card

A quick way to see the effect of a2sd utilizing the partition is with Titanium Backup, if you have it.

At the bottom of the Overview screen are bars showing how the memory is being used. The bottom bar will be labeled SD card (a2sd) and it shows how much of your sd ext is being used and give the amount free, as well.

If you made a large partition you won't see a lot of it used. I dl'd a big game, angry birds I think, to see activity in there when I first did it. I didn't play it though so I just got rid of it after I had proved the point to myself.

There are more technical commands you can issue in terminal emulator to show that it is working properly, as well, but I'd have to hunt them for you.

also, I just read back through here a bit. I am pretty sure gapps is included in this rom, i have a nand of it, I don't remember flashing gapps with it. of course, I've got old timers disease, so that doesn't prove anything but I think you are good to go.

Okay I just got done flashing CM9 and I really like it! The only bad part is no 4G but I can live with that:D Now how do I use a2sd? Does it Automatically come on or what?

Look at my post that is up a couple regarding checking it out with TB. It should have put what apps it could onto the partition when you flashed it and apps you restore or install in the future should go onto it too.
