We probably won't see it this month. Why would VZW want to release this super high-end smartphone on the last days of the quarter? Why not wait to have quarter 2 (April) get all the good numbers for the beginning?

Good point. I said this month because of the information posted in this thread yesterday and today. The current rumor with some teeth is the 27th.

The 27th is so close to the end of the month/quarter that, IMHO, even if released then the bulk of the numbers would still come from Q2.

Trying to bump quarterly numbers at the end of a quarter actually isn't that uncommon. If you think about it they will probably come out with new things in June as well that would bump that quarter. Granted I will say both late March / early April make sense in general.

Confirmed:

No 720p recording

I have a question regarding the above.

If it is "confirmed" that there is NO "720p recording"....then what basically does that confirm that it DOES have? And what/how much difference are we talking about?

Here is a size comparison of the HTC Incredible vs. the Apple iPhone 3GS vs. a pack of playing cards.

Edit 1: I used sizeasy.com to create this comparison with the rumored specs, and any one of us can easily update this with the actual specs later, from the link above.

Edit 2: iPhone 3GS thickness corrected, per Trent Reznor and the Apple website. I mistakenly used the canned iPhone specs from the sizeasy.com database. Thanks, TR.

My hope is they will announce at the end of Q1 (i.e. 3/27/2010) and begin sales very early in Q2 (i.e. 4/2/2010).

From what I read, the cpu chip in the incredible can support 720p recording so it's up the software to enable it which I'm sure in the future HTC will release.

If Sprint actually launches the Supersonic next week that could actually be a catalyst to me switching. I would have to demo (like I would the Incredible) but something about Android 2.1 with Sense on a 4.3" screen really screams BUY ME. Especially with my company discount.

Oh yeah...and I am in a 4G city as well.

Sprint may show off or demo the Supersonic, but it's not releasing next week. It hasn't been through the FCC. The only CDMA phones to get FCC approval from HTC this year so far are the CDMA N1 and the Incredible.

Actually, I wonder if the capability of the camera to do 720p at decent frame rates was taken into account when designing the phone, hence the onboard generous memory (8GB). I know you can add SD, but always good to have it built-in just in case, and 720p will take up some space, more than 512MB could accomodate.

Releasing the Supersonic would be the ultimate cell phone tease! Sprint doesn't even have 4G in my area -- the SF Bay Area. (Hmph, utterly preposterous.)

Technically speaking a quarter only needs to last 13 weeks. When does the 13th full week of this year start? The 28th.

Doesn't the camera hardware (sensor and what not) also have to be able to record at 720p as well?

Beats me :o when I think of a 8MP camera, I would think it should do 720p recording. Either way I'm sure the Incredible would do nice videos, well it BETTER!

Sensor speed is important to facilitate good frame rates. 8MP doesn't imply that it can do 720p at 30fps. I'm not sure if they use special methods to "help" the camera, like dividing the fine resolution into 2x2 blocks and alternating between the 4 pixels as an approximation of the entire 2x2 block to speed up the sensor's input by 4x. (If that doesn't make sense, I can try and explain it better). I "think" that's why the high res CCD sensors do lower res full frame rate video, but I could be totally wrong.

Hello, Big Red and bye bye ...

LMAO!! Yes, the AT&T Death Star and evil empire co-piloted by Darth Jobs. :D

I always thought it was up to how fast the processor could handle processing the sensor's data.....Say instead of pixels you have boxes, and the processor has to check each box. The sensor can send 8 million boxes over and over, but it has to wait until the processor gets done checking the boxes before it can send the next set of boxes.

Edit: But if you cut down the number of boxes you send to less than 1 million, you can check sets of boxes at a much faster rate. Just think of digital cameras and how some of them take a few seconds after the picture is taken to complete processing and show you the picture.

I think you have the thickness of the iphone wrong (unless you are comparing it to the iphone 2g)

The iphone 3g/3gs is:
Depth:0.48 inch (12.3 mm) - from apple website
Not the 11.6 in depth that you used for comparison. Not a big deal but the incredible is actually thinner than the current iphone.
