Root [Solution in post 4] How to get to H-boot?

Rxpert83

Dr. Feelgood
Just got my EVO LTE today, this should be a pretty easy question...

How do you get to the H-boot screen on these darn things? I've tried the old tried and true power+volume down form the OG evo days and no dice. (fastboot is off). I did a quick search on this forum and xda but there wasnt any obvious thread for it.

Are there any other useful button combinations I should know about?

Solution provided in post #4:

The camera button has NO part in this. At all.

The proper way to get to HBOOT is the following:

1) power down the device. Wait for it to power down completely.**
2) press POWER + VOL-DOWN simultaneously and keep VOL-DOWN pressed.

Let go of POWER, or you risk powering back down after the 10 seconds (I'm referring to the mechanism of hard-shutdown which HTC put in place due to the lack of a batter-pull option).

After a few more seconds, the white HBOOT screen will appear.

Yes, you can let go of POWER almost immediately, as long as the buttons at some point were both pressed together.

**Please note that if you try this procedure before the phone is completely shut down, it won't work. The problem is, there's no visual cue to let you know when the phone is completely shut down. Just because the screen turns off doesn't mean the phone isn't still booting down.

I've found a way to help determine if the phone is completely powered down. It requires that you plug your phone in to charge. When you shut down, the screen will go off, along with the charge indicator. Wait for the indicator to come back on. Even though it's back on, the phone still isn't ready; you should wait another 10 seconds or so. Then give the HBOOT procedure a try. If the charge light doesn't go out after you let go of POWER, wait a few more seconds and try again. When the light does go off when you release POWER, it will work; just keep VOL-DOWN held down, and HBOOT will come up.

IIRC it's volume down+camera, and while holding those turn on the power. I might be a little off, though, but try that.

With the device powered off completely, press Volume Down + Camera Button while powering the device ON. You are correct, my good sir.

I noticed last night that you can determine power off by the backlight on the soft keys. They remain lit until the power is completely off. You have to pay attention, as it is not extremely obvious when it changes over.

Sorry folks, I assumed ( thats a$$ u me ) this was known across the board. I never noticed it wasn't spelled out as novox did. My apologies. :o

+1 on the sticky though, great idea! ;)

I'll also throw this into the mix.

If you boot into hboot successfully, then select recovery, with the stock recovery, wait until you see the Red exclamation mark and triangle, then hold both volume up and down + power it will take you to the stock recovery menu options. I've already wiped the cache from the stock recovery in an attempt to "fix" my first El Tevo. It was a fruitless effort. :( Second one seems better behaved than the first one. :D

This was not my experience. Using the charge light as an indicator (as described in my original post above), the soft key lights go out way before the charge light comes back on, and I've never been able to get to the bootloader until after the charge light comes on.

There is an app named Quick boot that I use to get to recovery or bootloader.
Twrp lets you reboot to bootloader or recovery as well .
