my phone is right out of the box yesterday...... still haven't rooted, unlocked, or s-off...... it got a prl update that's it.....

EDIT: i remember when the MT forums were this fresh....

I did mention where to flash the SU patch. Step 7:

C) Select the ROM you want to flash (the SU patch for example)

But you may have missed it because I left that part a little vague. When I wrote this guide for the Evo 3D, full-fledged ROMs were common and most people said "I downloaded this ROM, how do I install it?" So I wrote this guide to accommodate that. Sorry for any confusion.

Congrats to those who managed to get theirs rooted! I went back and deleted the files and started over again from the beginning, trying to go EXACTLY as the guide said and still get the same fastboot error from SDK tools. Tried with the min-sdk again. Tried reinstalling the full SDK but it won't let me get into the SDK manager after installing to even finish that setup. SDK manager.exe flashes really quickly and the disappears. I also tried to cd to the full sdk folder and it does not even find that directory.
 
ROOTED!!!,.... after prerequisite jdk software installs...., It Takes about 20 Mins including nandroid backup, (choose zips & install zips being 2 different tasks makes things a little confusing, not used to the multi zip flash system)....... Also to wigginst^^ make sure you have Microsoft visual c++ 2005 and 2010 updated; also .net framework. If you are running win 7 this seems to be required in a lot of circumstances for running java related things.

EDIT: Thank You jerofld! This guide was quite easy to follow, coming from vanilla androids, the HTC sense seemed a bit daunting, but your walk through made it easy as pie to get rooted....

EDIT:...Now to try and deodex this stock setup for themes.....

Have updated everything. Still getting the fastboot error.

Punk maxx: What JDK software did you download and install? Maybe I got the wrong thing? Grasping at straws now...

I can then copy over my RUU flashing guide to help those who get confused with that. HBOOT 1.5x throws a monkey wrench into the process vs older HTC devices' bootloaders.
 
Any chance we can get the stock rom de-odexed and rooted? That would be a great post for most everybody to work with and revert to in case of any problems.
 
At what point in the process does everything get erased & reset? Is it when we do the data reset/dalvic wipe/cache wipe or is it some point before that?

The reason I ask is because my wife got her Evo V on the 3rd of June and has proceeded to load everything and then some on there. She also has it all set-up how she wants it. Of course she did all this before I could do anything with it.

I know it says in the OP that this process erases & resets everything so, my question is, when I install the recovery and do the back-up, will that back-up save all of her settings & stuff so that I can restore it after I root it and install a ROM?

If I can't get it back to how she has it now, I doubt she'll let me touch the thing!

When you unlock the bootloader it resets everything.

So before you can make a backup.
 
There is a temp root available for the Evo 3D HBOOT 1.50, but I've never tried it (I never had 1.5) and it's untested for the Evo V with HBOOT 1.57. If you want to experiment, I can find and link the procedure, but I think it'd just be easier overall if you make a manual backup with ES File Explorer and sync to Google than to try to temp root for Titanium

Yes, you can remove Google+ Plus and Google Video Player safely.

Is the temp root for ics though. That is the important part really.
 
You shouldn't need the entire SDK. You should just need the Mini-SDK. Try opening your start menu (I'm assuming you're using Windows) typing cmd, then right clicking on it and clicking run as administrator. Then navigate to the mini-sdk, or wherever you have adb.exe, and just type adb reboot, just to get your phone to reboot. (To see if it's working)
 
Could someone possibly make a idiot-Proof Video installation of this process. i am a much better learner when i can visually see whats happening. it's more hands on. thanks lol. im Just trying to root. here . MT was so simple. HTC idk where the hell i am.
 
ok need quick help im ready t flash a rom but when i got to recovery and put beging flashing zip part all it says it added /sdcard/*name of rom*.zip nothing else after that and it doesnt do anything
 
OK, this is a total noob question but I've never owned an HTC phone before so all this stuff is new to me.

If I use HTC unlock, there's no reason I can't make my phone s-off in the future if i want to right? HTC unlock doesn't interfere with s-off, in other words?

Did you do the HTC unlock procedure?

Right now the only s-off procedure available requires you to be HTC unlocked and rooted anyways
