Root Well, lets get the ball rolling

Watching this post grow has been awesome!!

From everyone like me who has the know-how to follow directions to root, but no idea the challenges of creating the exploits and steps involved...

THANK YOU!!!

WE APPRECIATE YOUR HARD WORK!!!

FYI I've heard that Google Wallet doesn't play nice with rooted phones, so if you have your heart set on that extra $15 you might want to wait to root your phone.

I also heard that as long as you reset google wallet before flashing your phone that it will not screw up google wallet.

That is also what I've read. Otherwise you can brick the secure element for your NFC, permanently. I also read that a factory reset, without resetting your Google Wallet first can result in the same problem. So, be sure to reset your Google Wallet in the Google Wallet settings before attempting either procedure. I read that this may have been fixed in a Google Wallet update, but better to be safe...

If you're rooted, Google Wallet will display a message that says something like "Unsupported device" and a link with a brief explanation. To me, this means Google will not take any responsibility or provide any support if your PIN/account gets hacked by downloading malware in an app or losing your phone. Google Wallet should still work OK on a rooted phone.

FWIW, section 4 (Limitations on Use of Services) of the Google Wallet Terms of Service Agreement states:

"The Mobile Wallet Application is intended for use on mobile devices and Android operating systems as provided to you directly by Google or your mobile carrier. You are strictly prohibited from using the Mobile Wallet Application on a mobile device or Android operating system that has been modified or customized in any way. You bear sole responsibility for such unauthorized use of the Mobile Wallet application on a modified mobile device or Android operating system."

That said, I'd rather have root than Google Wallet.

Google bought me a good lunch one day but I can't see me using Google wallet again. I'm not gonna use my debit card to add money to a debit card on my phone. My actual debit card seems faster than phone. Sure it cool and the cashier at McD's looked at me like an idiot but bring on the root.

Google is trying to get support to add visa cards to the list therefore if you have a debit card you can put your card on there and use it with google wallet no need to "add" money it will just be attached to your bank sorry im a hardcore google fanboy =/

If they add support for other cards then maybe but not something I'd give up root for. But like some of you posted I've also read it'll still work but shows as unsupported

Remove all the google wallet root talk to a different thread. Any updates on root?

Sent it to WhisperPntr this morning, but he and I are on opposite sides of the wold, so time zones are an issue.

I didn't follow how she was flashing without wiping nvram, but if you did hit me on gtalk then.

No worries it's a very minor thing that only gets awkward when people online hear my voice.

about 10-15 more minutes left on the download.

@jcase
I'll only bug you if I need to :)

36% flashing now.

Also a note for those who might not know, you need to change the com ports from download mode and ##diag# enabled mode to the same number. Windows reassigns the com ports due to paranoia of conflicts so for those who are hmmming and hawwing over why the flash didn't work or stalled at 10% this is why. you'll see two com ports detected on lgnpst and you are trying to flash to the wrong one.
