So I am trying v8 and so far it's as good as v7 seems. I did want to post though that I got the WiFi Tether working by going under settings/ device profile and selecting Samsung Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE) when in the Tether app!:D

Is there any way to change the battery icon back to stock on this ROM? I've never been a fan of the circle batteries

quick question,

I haven't gone to v9 yet but have been from v6-v8 and like this ROM a lot. There are 2 issues and I can't determine if they are a ROM issue or a hardware issue. I have been reading the posts about related items and haven't found a solution to either,
First:

my camera doesn't always focus correctly, it will sometime go to re-focus on something and then become totally un-focused and stay there (I have tried this with the Camera Pudding app as well and though not as often it still will lose focus).

Second:

Battery life, though I don't know what to really expect from this phone. Though I have read the battery life discussion, it seems getting through a day of moderate usage is tough and doesn't really seem that much better then my OG EVO.

The battery is still under investigation but if anyone has any ideas behind the camera or things I could try to test it, I would appreciate that.

Will be going to v9 tonight!!!!

We ought to chat in the battery thread - today, I've had screen on 4 hours (webbing, emailing, sms'ing, watching some vids, all on wifi) and talked for 1 hr 32 minutes and did a nandroid backup - that cost me 50% of my battery. Not sure what you call moderate use, that qualifies as moderate for me, and that's quite a bit better than my Evo did.

I usually only get about 4 hours of on screen time total. If that.

My signal strength is terrible at my house though.

1-2 bars

I flashed .7 the night I s-off'd my phone and everything seemed great at first until the next day when I was using the phone at work to stream pandora and the battery started disappearing before my eyes. The cpu was running pretty hot too at 45-48c so i downloaded .6 and flashed it to see if it would help. At first it didn't make much of a difference so i just figured it was the cpu performance tweaks just over working the phone.

Funny thing is after a few days the rom settled down and everything is great now. I've heard that for years on several different phones but never really believed it but now I've seen it with my own two eyes. Battery life is amazing and the cpu stays around 35-38c when streaming which is acceptable to me.

I'm having a slight sd card drop out issue which I'm trying to figure out but other than that everything is good. I'll probably try .9 later to see if it stays stable but I'm not too concerned now.

Yep, if your phone is tower hopping or having the signal blink on/off rapidly, no battery can save you.

Try Open Signal Maps to see the deal.

Otherwise, my rule of thumb is 10% per hour (wifi).

I wouldn't expect Meanies to get less. When I was a 3vo Meanie I did pretty well.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've used open maps before when you suggested it to someone else and I don't tower hop.

Due to the geography of my area I just don't get a good signal even though the tower is only half a mile away

I've been on .8 since yesterday. Light/moderate usage today - gym for an hour streaming Subsonic over 3G, numerous texts all day, streamed about 11min of video via wifi this evening, 1 5 min call, and i'm at 46%. It could always be better (if the battery never ever drained period and i had a million+ dollars), but it never even left 100% this am until after i was at work for at least an hour and started texting. A+ to me, but of course YMMV. I did however change the performance to battery about 5 minutes after the ROM flash, battery will always come before nanoseconds of speed for me.

Does he just never stop updating or has he finally got a rom that is ready as a daily? Im not flashing all the time and want stability and battery life.

Going through my first ROM experiences with any phone (Whichever is latest for this, .9 I think) and I am really digging it. Had tried out Viper which was nice but this one feels a bit better. Changed that battery profile too and so far getting some good battery time, really nice conservation when off. No real lag to report from that profile change.

Wallet is actually running finally too.

How are you guys changing the battery profile?

Forgive me if I'm using the wrong terminology.

[ROM] Jul-05 MeanROM ICS v0.9 | 1.13.651.1 | CPU, 3G, WiFi, UI tweaks | Batt saver - xda-developers

How to tweak performance and battery life of this ROM to your needs.
Note: after making any changes below, always reboot to make the change take effect

Install Root Explorer from the market, then follow the steps below:

  1. Open Root Explorer.
  2. Navigate to /system/etc.
  3. If the button on the top/right says "Mount R/W", click it. If it says "Mount R/O", do NOT click it: your system partition is already writeable.
  4. Long press on the file init.qcom.post_boot.sh and select "Open in Text Editor".
  5. Change line 7 to PERFORMANCE_OR_BATTERY="BATTERY" if your primary concern is battery.
  6. You can use line 8 to optimize SD card speed by changing the read_ahead value if you like.
  7. When done editing as above, use the back button to back out of Root Explorer.
  8. On your way out, answer "Yes" to save when prompted.
  9. Reboot. No wiping is necessary.

To change back to performance, simply follow the above except in step 5, use PERFORMANCE_OR_BATTERY="PERFORMANCE". This is the default setting. Note that PERFORMANCE_OR_BATTERY="BATTERY" will result in better battery life when the screen is on because the CPU(s) will not adjust to higher speeds as quickly. This may result in a very small amount of lag but it will improve screen-on battery life by a small but noticeable amount. Screen off battery life will be unaffected: MeanROM already has phenomenal screen off battery life.

Overclocking: To overclock, follow the above steps except in step 5, change line 8 to OVERCLOCK="ON". MeanROM ICS is set to overclock to 1.72 Ghz as that is the highest value that appears to be safe and stable on all phone

Does he just never stop updating or has he finally got a rom that is ready as a daily? Im not flashing all the time and want stability and battery life.

Make no mistake. When the ROM was released it was fully ready to be a daily driver.

This dev updates so often because as new modifications come out he adds them into the rom.

It's really nice actually. You'll see other roms haven't been updated since they came out and the user has to keep it updated if they want all the latest and greatest.

I just checked on my phone, the line in the file that is referenced (PERFORMANCE_OR_BATTERY="BATTERY") didn't seem to change (It stays as performance and not battery) Is that normal? It says it saved after I changed to battery. I don't get any prompts to mount, though it says R/O in the main menu.

I am using Explorer from speed software. Do I have to change the second line with $Performance or Battery too?

You saved the file after right? I just did it using rootexplorer and it stuck.

MeanROM v 1.0 will have customizable Overclock built in :D
