Root [S-OFF] LazyPanda S-OFF for LTEvo[Locked or Unlocked devices]

Congratulations! :)

This is your next step - go to -

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1738462

Physical sd card = /sdcard2

If you don't have a physical sd card, keep that on your to-do list.

Following that, go to -

http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte...21-recovery-twrp-2-2-0-7-12-2012-teamwin.html

Then, boot into recovery. Make a nandroid backup and you'll be ready for anything. :)

Any of us can walk you through any steps above.

You are way over the hump now. :)

You seriously want the updates.

The bootloader lets you use fastboot if you ever need it and the new TWRP lets you rename your backups as you go, as well as much better internal /external sd card handling.

Okay, cool. Problem is, after doing the S-OFF, my Google apps appear to be not working? I'm not quite sure what's going on with it. I can access Google Play but it won't let me download new apps (gives me an error). I tried Fix Permissions in TWRP but that didn't fix it. I'm going to try to flash a new ROM to see if that helps.

I had that happen often.

Clear cache, Dalvik, fix permissions usually fixes it for a little while.

I think that the 1.22 roms mostly solve that, no guarantees.

That didn't seem to work for me, but I was able to sideload Goo Manager anyway. I'm downloading the 1.22 zip and plan on trying out MeanROM once I finish downloading it.

i have had that playstore thing a few times. I go to apps/all google services framework and stop it and clear data and reboot.

Has worked every time.

Think it is around version 1.4 that he based it on the ota. you can install the radios and stuff from bootloader with a zip he has on the MeanRom op. He tells how to do it.

edit: Not sure if I missed a step in there though. Early will catch it if I did.

I am going to try this today finally I think. I'm quite nervous as I know nothing about Ubuntu if I brick it.

I am still on the original Hboot. Should I load the fresh 5.1.1 rom that is suggested on XDA or load up my nandroid of stock rom before running it?
I'm on Charmeleon at the moment. I've never changed anything under the hood on either Rom.

I plan to follow tyhe infamous post #475. Any other suggestions?

Thanks guys!

I ran fine with Charmeleon. The main thing is to not have a modified build.prop file, so you're safe there.

If you brick, you'll need an Ubuntu cd to recover - no big deal. We can walk you through that.

Be sure to remove all HTC software first, install the drivers given at XDA.

Cool. Thanks for the confidence boost EM and Windsor!

Last question, Does an old PC make a difference? From what I've read I don't think so but wanted to check. I'm on a very old Dell, probably 10 years, with 512MB ram and it runs XP.

It didn't when I rooted my OG Evo. I actually had a computer with the same amount of ram and windows xp. I'm not sure if it will make a difference with LTEvo. I'd give it a shot but that's just me.

I'm going to try. I just updated the drivers and am rebootung.
It was fine ffor the regaw unlock.
On a side note. My p.c. is soooooo slow. Really need to upgrade it.

I have my stock rom loaded and have checked the md5 sums of the zip files.

Still working on it. I couldn't get my phone to communicate with the P.C. with a command prompt. Although I don't really know what I'm doing. I did specify the correct drive and then I type "adb device" as the post #475 says but nothing happens. One of the other posts says to download the ADB fastboot zip they link and i try that but the window won't open up for me after I unzip it. It shows the command prompt window and stuff scrolls by in 4 seconds and then it goes away.

So I've been trying to download Ubuntu 12.04 and set up a Thumb drive with it. That has just finished so I guess when I reboot it will go straight into Ubuntu? And should I try to download the Panda file first?

I think that is the next course of action and then hope I can decipher the commands laid out throughout this thread.

Thanks for checking though. I hope to move a little faster on it now.

Gotcha. So is Firefox in Ubuntu or will I need to DL it?

I ended up switching to my laptop, which is also old, and I'm about to reboot which should bring up Ubuntu automatically.
Then I don't need to worry about HTC drivers from what I can tell?

Now I'm stuck at the Ubuntu screen with 5 red dots.

I think I'm getting close to giving up. Nothing easy I guess. Although in my reading I didn't format the Thumb drive I used and now i see it mentioned. Might try to do that. Not sure if I need to redownload or can drag the Ubuntu files from drive to drive.

Edit: I formatted another usb drive and used the installer to load up 12.04 and it's doing the same thing. It gets stuck on the loading screen. I might try it on the desktop now.

Well I've given up. I tried running Ubuntu from a USB on my laptop and p.c. The laptop gets to a black screen that says Ubuntu and has 5 red dots below it.

The Desktop ends up with a black screen with white typing that asks questions and has [ok] on the right side of the screen.

I made multiple USB drives and it wouldn't work from any of them.

I assume I'm using the right version I used Ubuntu 12.04 desktop.

And on the windows front I can't seem to get my phone and p.c. to communicate ever and I'm afraid to run the panda with out confirming that or being able to unbrick if need be.

Maybe in a couple weeks I can try again as I'm moving next week and need to pack stuff up.

If anyone has any thoughts let me know.
Thanks

It took quite a while to load from cd for me.

Yes, mine did too.

Took my new laptop about 5-10 to load from the live CD. It's a quad core with 8gigs RAM, new fast Blu-Ray dvd burner drive thingey, still took a hot minute.

I'll also recommend running the tool in Ubuntu, this way if a temp brick does occur, Ubuntu is already loaded. ;)

My Windows 7 "machine" has roughly a quarter of your specs, so you KNOW it took a while for me... :D

And I concur about doing this in Ubuntu too.
