Root No luck rooting LG Optimus V

Root Noob

Lurker
:confused:50 year old newbie, figured it'd be fun to root my phone and start playing around with this stuff. LG Optimus V running 2.2.2. Tried unsuccessfully in this order: Gingerbreak 1.2, SuperOneClick 1.3, and finally Z4root. All 3 will load and execute, but simply hangup after Root command and never time out. At least it's not bricked! Any suggestions?

The first thing you should do is go to the top page of the all things root sub forum and read the sticky "all things root guide ". In there it will tell you everything that you need to know about rooting. There are some great guides and how to's found there!

Gingerbreak should work, sometimes it takes 3or 4 times.

If you do get root read the sticky"NEVER FACTORY RESET YOUR PHONE ". THIS IS IMPORTANT!

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Also, don't use ROM Manager, unless you know you have a ZV4 phone. Settings>About Phone>somewhere in there it will say ZV4 or ZV5.

Also make sure to have usb debugging on. Settings >> Aplication settings >> Development >> Android debugging <- Make sure this is ticked.

Looks like my build is ZV9. Anything I need to do differently? I read the root guide and understand most of it. I'm not ready for ROMs and flashes. I have not successfully rooted yet. How could all 3 exploits listed in my initial post not work?

Just the one for zv9 should work. Make sure you have drivers installed.

Sorry, I am a noob, afterall. Are you saying to follow the guide only relative to root and recovery BECAUSE I already have ZV9? So I don't need all the files linked at the top of the guide? I realize most things discussed here need to be performed EXACTLY as presented, so I'm looking for specific steps to take, seeing that I have 2.2.2, ZV9, and none of the 3 exploits I've tried so far have worked.

It might be easier to follow Petrah's ZV9 update guide. Just follow the part in the instructions for getting root and installing a custom recovery. I think this will be a lot easier.

I'm apprehensive...do I need all the files listed at the top of the guide, and then go straight to step 2? Also, the Gordita link is dead, so how do I substitute another recommended root with confidence? I must say, I'm off to a lousy start with this root/mod stuff, but the people in this forum such as yourself have been nothing but helpful and encouraging.
