Root {GUIDE x2} Update to ZVD/Root ZVD

Thanks a bunch! Ive actually been around here for a bit (obviously lol) I went to this thread to root my other esteem and now im just letting this one charge and ill get right to it, thanks guys :)
 
Tried updating to D, but the LGMobile Tool didnt detect my phone. Not sure if it's because Im not using the stock USB cable. Will give it another try tonight at home using the stock cable. The cable I'm using is an LG but not sure the specs.

LG Tool has notice saying "Disconnect. Please connect your phone."

Drivers are installed and it's in Internet Connection Mode right:confused:

Come to think of it, I prolly wont be able to do it tonight either. I'll bring my stock cable and try again tomorrow at work.
 
So, i was able to upgrade last night. I dont think the cable was the issue. :o I forgot to unzip and install the drivers while i was at work. :o My work computer isn't able to unzip the files so I wouldn't have been able to do it there anyways.

Everything went smoothly. Upgraded in about 30 minutes.

yup, gonna restart right now hope it works this time, if not fml


plus i clicked cancel and after fiften minutes it wont go away gonna have to restart my computer and THEN redownload it

Went to sleep, in the morning everything finally worked out. (My problem was that I was downloading over wireless connection and my internet disconnected at 90%! How unlucky haha

Anyways, everything seems good now, it says I have SW version ZVD on my phone now. Now your telling me to do a factory reset, I've already backed up all my apps into Titanium Backup prior the ZVD installation when I had already had root. Now I DON'T have root access (obviously, since I just updated). Would it be safe to do factory reset with just my apps in TB?
 
Doesn't hurt to factory reset but I find it pointless. Never had issues not doing it.

After that you've already done the next steps needed previously so go through those again.

Recovery
Restore personal affects
Backup
Flash ROM
Backup
Flash theme
Backup

You mean factory reset then restore your apps/texts/call logs with TB:confused:
If so yes-just make sure your backups are on your external sd before you do so you don't erase them:eek:
 
So when exactly do I remove the external sd card, before doing the update or after the update and before I attempt to root? I have backed up my contacts already to the sd, just don't want to lose everything else. Thanks!

Remove it prior to starting the process or back everything on it to your pc first and leave it in. Did you get it done:confused:
 
Haven't started the update from B to D yet, did backup my phone to my computer tho...so now I will pull the SD card and start the update to D. Then I can use the {Guide x2} Update to SVD/Root ZVD files to backup and root my phone, right? Do I replace the SD card before rooting or just wait 'til the whole process is done?

You can wait until done. Use ROM Manager from the GPlay store to install recovery-easiest way:thumbup:
 
Got my esteem updated to D and rooted, whoo hoo! Just have one question, I can't seem to get any of my root programs to work ( set cpu, etc..) do I have to update something else to get them working? Still just on stock D software at the moment, but the phone is definitely running much smoother/faster after update!

You can use a root checker from GPlay or simply download Titanium Backup(if you are not rooted it will tell you as well).
 
Thanks a ton for all the help gbiggie! Now not only is my Esteem rooted, I have the MS910 rom installed and working as well. The help from everyone in these forums is super, you just gotta read and ask! You guys rock...never knew how much potential my phone had 'till I broke into it, lol! Now I just need to add a cool theme to this baby, any suggestions?
 
so what do you mean? are you sayinng any site that plays videos you wont be able to view them or is it only when you are renting from the play store
 
ok seriously thinking about doing this some quick questions though havent been here in awhile and i mean awhile if i update from zvb which has its downs meaning the screen freezing to zvd I have no idea of the capabilites do I neccessarly have to do a factory reset to root my phone tbh my phone is rooted on zvb do i have to unroot? if so how? just dont feel like losing alot of stuff really

when you update to zvd all data is wiped, its basically an out of the box phone
