Root [CDMA] Complete Newbie's Guide to rooting and flashing Evo 3D ROMs/Kernels using fastboot

followed your instructions to the letter. wiped cache, dalvik, complete data wipe... MULTIPLE times..

no dice.

really annoying.

any ideas??

also does this give SU access??(the shooter rom or whatever)

The rom in the tutorial gives superuser access. Are you rooting from GB or ICS? The reason I ask is because you can't flash that gingerbread rom if you were ICS.

If you are coming from ics which I'm assuming if you're just rooting it.

Try using 4EXT Recovery

It's a great recovery and uses the touchscreen. It's also very nice looking.

Download the app and it will automatically flash the recovery when you select a version. You can do it in app!

After setting up 4ext download CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip Place that on your sd card. Open 4ext recovery app and click on recovery. Then choose install zip from sd card. Select that zip file that you put on your sd card. Check the options to wipe cache and dalvik cache. Then tell it ok. When it is finished it should restart your phone and your phone should be rooted!!!

Ok, sorry for the confusion. So I've added a link to the Stock Deodex ROM as well as the superuser patch. If you just want ICS + root, just use the super user patch. If you want to replace the whole ROM, use the Deodex link. I'm downloading the RUU right now to host it on a non-chinese website.

Okay well now I'm confused. Last night I had everything working perfectly. Now I can't use any app needing root access. The only thing I can think of that changed was I was able to update the superuser binaries. Please help. Let me add that I'm on hboot 1.5and did the root through this thread. I'm running root check basic and it is taking forever and says "system appears to be running very slow."

What rom and recovery are you on?

I'm using team win recovery and the stock gb rom that was on here yesterday. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the superuser update. I also am trying subupdate fixer and it can't get root access.

Evo 3D CDMA Hboot 1.58

I followed "Complete Newbie's Guide to rooting and flashing Evo 3D ROMs/Kernels using fastboot" to the T but my phone is now stuck in a bootloop. It's unlocked.
After flashing the recovery used in the tutorial and rebooting the phone goes through its normal process of starting up but goes right back to restarting as the unlocking ring tries appears. I have followed this thread to this point but found nothing of help. Guidance anyone?

Those binaries never would update for me on that setup. Are you s-off? Did it work while the updates were uninstalled? If you want to try a different super user you could try this one.

CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip

You just put that on your sd card and install zip file from recovery menu.

I am s-on. I didn't do wire trick last night. i still need to find a wire :). It did not work when the updates were uninstalled. I'll try this superuser.

Can you boot into recovery? Do a battery pull then hold volume down + power. In the menu it shows select recovery.

If you can get to your recovery and your rom is on your sd card you can choose install zip from sd card. Then choose the rom you selected.

Yes, I can boot into recovery and I have tried flashing the stock roms but nothing seems to work.

That worked! Thanks. One more question for now. I'm sure I'll have one for later. It asked SuperSU for permission when I opened up Titanium, which is good, however, Superuser is still on my system. Should I just leave it there and not worry about it!

Edit: upon reboot the old superuser disappeared without having to delete it manually.

Are you trying the rom in the tutorial? Try flashing supersu from my last post. If you flash that it will root your stock Ics. Essentially the same thing as flashing the stock rooted rom except you are rooting it yourself. It's possible that you will have to restore your nand backup and then flash recovery and supersu.

Yes, I am trying the ROM in the tutorial; but I have also tried flashing the [SU -0.96v] that you posted above for the third time and still no luck. I am worried that I may not have a working nand backup. The tutorial ROM gets aborted but the SU zip goes through.

So it worked when you flashed supersu? But it still won't boot up? Why do you think your backup is bad? Don't worry though even if it is corrupt we will still be able to get you to rooted ics.

You're welcome! I don't know if it matters. It's probably fine to leave it but I'm sure there is a way to get rid of it. We will have to find some instructions.

Eta: replacing super user with supersu

Super user flashes but the phone does the same thing...tries to load but restarts again. Moment ago it was completly stuck on the white screen with the green HTC logo.
What ROM would you suggest I try? My phone is brand new and I had the latest sprint released ICS update and now I am worried its a compatibility issue.

Ok. I'm wondering if that recovery can't handle ics or something. Keep in mind it was written for Gb so there could be bugs.

First let's get back to stock so we can try something else. Go to your recovery menu and restore your nand backup. It will probably take about a half hour....

I am currently using the 4EXT recovery and when I go to backup /restore is says that there are no backups yet.

Did you create a backup following the steps? Also if you did, was it with twrp recovery? 4EXT Recovery won't find or restore your twrp backup.

Yes, i did using trwp from the tuitorial...trying to restore now.

Nothing happens when i click on "Restore Naowz!"

Restored but it's still in a boot loop

Oh boy.... Ok the only other option i have to get you booted back up is to run an RUU. I will have to go get a link but to verify you are ics hboot 1.58 right?

Also you are cdma not gsm right?
