Version 4.0 dropped last night... It includes the xhause s-on kernal installer. This might be good news for you s-on guys.

How do we use this new kernel installer? I wanna take the "ota" that Mike sent out but I'm not sure how the new kernel installer works. I've always used flash gui, or fastboot.
 
It should enable you to flash kernels normally from recovery. Or in this case via the ota


You know how to fastboot flash them, so if something goes wrong that's always gonna be the backup plan
 
This may be a dumb question but I have to ask. Lol. Will accepting the ota wipe my phone? I can't do it right now bc I'm at work and the service sucks. So ill be doing it later on.. Just want to be in the know. :)

No it wont. It would be akin to a "dirty flash"
 
Currently flashing 4.0.

I have S-ON and am going from 3.8.

Using the OTA updater. Lets see how this works.

Seems like everything worked out fine. It even flashed the new kernel for me without having to do it via fastboot.
 
Yes the Meanrom ota :D

So i followed the OTA updater instructions on mikes thread. It downloaded Ok and when the phone was done rebooting it landed in recovery. When I booted into the system in was still on 3.8 :confused:
 
What were the instructions?

I've only used the updater once but I just let it download and then clicked install.


Oh well, the app downloaded the ROM and put it on your internal SD card, so you can just manually flash it from recovery

I had to flash it myself, it downloaded the ROM into the OTA folder but did not initiate the flash. When I flashed it myself though it went fast and smooth. Look on your internal memory for the OTA-Updater folder and the ROM should be in there. Flash it in recovery (or however you flash things) and you should be good to go :)

BTW 4.0 is very very smooth. I was previously on 3.3 and was overclocked and tweaked all perfect and it didnt run this well. Multitasking is 100% on 4.0 from what I can tell.

The instructions were quite simple.. Just hit the accept button, it downloads and then reboots a couple times and then your good to go. Kernel and all. Even for us s-on people bc of the new kernel installer. So when It didn't work I thought the same thing. Checked everywhere on my sd card and couldn't find it.. No biggie. I'll just download it and flash like a normal rom. And flash the kernel in fastboot. I was just curious to see if the ota updater would work out.

So in order to stop my screen from turning on when I get a text message, all I have to do is flash that one zip file in the MeanROM folder called screenoffsms.zip?

So that means going into TWRP and just clicking install, finding the file and let it do its thing?

Yes. It would be recommended to wipe dalvik cache and cache as well before flashing
 
So I went back into the ota updater and figured I'd give it a shot at redemption. This time it went smooth as can be and I'm now running 3.9 :)


Yes the screen off with sms is rosie is back.( thank goodness) Just flashed it along with the 4x5 rosie and both are working flawlessly. As expected. :thumbup:

Could I dirty flash to 4.0 from 2.9 and how is it going..any bugs? Screen on when I get a text sucks and after a while my phone slows down from it until I wipe the caches.
 
We had an OTA update that Mikey incorporated in the early 3's.

Be a good idea to do a complete wipe and flash it fresh.

I don't now your set up or how you would go about updating your firmware or kernel, but you need to consider that. Actually, I think he built in a way for s-on folk to flash the new kernel, now that I think about it.

In the MeanRom Ics folder that the rom puts on your internal sd, there is a zip you can flash to keep texts from coming to the front like that.
