Root Capt Throwback method issues.

so if I run unrevoked forever I can then accept all ota updates and keep my root?

in theory yes. however, i highly recommend that you practice to never accept an ota while you are rooted. NEVER!!!!! it is just good habit to have going forward. plus i have no idea if this will still work on the latest ota's. it worked during the froyo days. things have changed, since then so who knows.

Done.

It was a triumph! lol. I finally have it rooted!

Could I go back and flash over amon ra the same way I did before?

c:\android>fastboot flash recovery recovery.img in cmd prompt

is there a whole other involved process to the flashing roms or is it as simple as putting the zip file on the root of the sd and selecting them in recovery?

is there a whole to the flashing roms or is it as simple as putting the zip file on the root of the sd and selecting them in recovery?

sort of.......the basic steps are:
1.make a nandroid backup
2.wipe everything but the sd card(min. dalvik cache, cache, and data)
3.use superwipe(optional)
4.flash rom
5.reboot.

but for more details go here:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html. skip the rooting process and go to the after root section. it has important info like how to flash a rom and kernel.

you can get most of the roms here:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/618281-list-utilities-apps-roms-kernels-og-evo.html

the staff picks are great suggestions of roms to try out. also please read the second post as well.

I flashed mikg 3.1 and amon ra 2.3 and the sense kernel for hdmwin so I could hdmi mirroring... now the video on mobile YouTube is white screen and also gmail app is force closing... I'm going to delete the sense kernel, if I can get the my computer to recognize my phone as a hard drive... it doesn't show up in my computer or pop up the normal "what do you want to do with this new hardware" box..

I think that hdmwin may not be compatible with mikg 3.1 because it's running android 2.3.5 technically, it says something in the app description about it 2.3.3

full hdmi? Do you know if it's froyo or gingerbread? I think the problem is that I flashed froyo kernel for gingerbread... I'm reading the Utilities/Apps/Roms/Kernels thread, now.. lol

Yep, caine brought his kernel up to source with hdmwin so full hdmi but you'll still need to use the hdmwin app from the google play store

And if I flash this kernel over to sdcard will it overwrite the previous kernel I had installed?

You don't flash it to the sdcard but download the kernel and when it's on the sdcard, then boot to recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache, then flash the kernel, reboot. You can make a nandroid if you want but it's not necessary.

Download kernel
Boot to recovery
Nandroid(if you want)
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik cache
Flash kernel
Reboot
