Root [Updated 11-20-12][BOOTLOADER][Windows][VS920]Bootloader Pwnage Tool for the LG Spectrum 4G

This Windows version worked for me. I tried the Linux version first, nothing happened, not really sure why [Dual-booting W8 and Mint]. But this worked great, thanks so much!

Well, you can still root. You just can't unlock your bootloader. That kinda. sucks but if you need bluetooth then that's basically your only option. On a good side, even on stock ics, you will have better performance and battery life than with gingerbread.

Wait, now I'm confused. I thought superuser gave you bootloader automatically, since most Linux systems bend over backwards for su? (Root Terminology guide isn't helping on this one)

Ok, breaking down questions:
1) If I install another ROM (say, Icy Fusion), will I get BT back?
2) Can you get root without bootloader?
3) Do you need bootloader to get ROMs (I'd assume so, but...)?

The bootloader is a part of the software structure on your phone. On the spec, it is locked if you have ics. If you try and flash something without unlocking it, you will brick your phone. You can root without unlocking though. If you do decide to root, i wouldn't remove bloatware because if you get rid of the wrong thing your phone won't boot.

Thanks for the info! :) I'm going to bounce off a few ROMs, see if they have a fixed BT with their ROM or not.

As of right now, no rom has bluetooth working. Mostly because it's not an issue with the rom but with the kernel and having the unlocked bootloader. If you unlock, the only way to get bluetooth back is to flash the .cab file.

currently all the roms we have are based off stock, they have just been debloated and have some apps added and in the case of eclipse and dark ice has some themeing done. The only none stock roms we have are CM9, AOSP, and tdm is working on CM10 and i think AOKP, but none of the non-stock roms have data working so we are kinda screwed on all fronts when it comes to having a fully functioning ICS rom. Stock is your only option if you need BT.

There are several people working on all these issues though, and hopefully soon we will have CM10 with everything working. Of course this may never happen but I have a feeling that it might.

Well, considering how dedicated these guys are, and how amazing their jobs have been in the past, I'm pretty certain they can pull it off, too. :D
 
Question.... I'm still on rooted stock and considering flashing the CM9 build, but before I use this tool: After I use this tool to install the new kernel and bootloader, will it affect my stock install if I back it up and restore it later?

I have a feeling I'm going to flash cm9, but restore stock, because i use my phone for work and can use the bluetooth and mms capabilities that are missing with cm9 and this alternate kernel.
 
Also, when I keep trying to run the tool (both with the folder just in the C drive and elsewhere), but all I get is this:

It just sits here and I know it generally should continue running after adb starts up, as it says it did.

help?

Are you sure your phone is connected in debugging mode?

If you aren't sure open command prompt and CD to your abd directory and use the command abd devices

if something comes up, you're connected
 
I'm not a noob... It was in debug mode and in tried both ethernet and modem for Internet connection modes.

The pc recognizes the phone, but the app makes it seem like adb isn't running.

I have my device encrypted for ActiveSync email use, and I wonder if that's part of the problem.

Once you unlock, you can not go back with the nandroid. You're stuck with the custom kernel the unlocker installs and that means no more bluetooth. This is listed on almost all the unlocker warnings. You'll be using the .cab method if you need to get back to stock with bluetooth.

No offense intended, I know well how people can forget things they've done a hundred times before, couldn't hurt to check. I mostly included the instructions in case anyone else is having this problem so they know how to check if they are connected.

I thought so... I saw that mentioned in the cm9 thread, but I wanted to be certain.

Any ideas on my issue above?
