You seem to be the person to come to when it comes SDHC questions:) so...
Will the class of the memory card affect the speed at all once it's on the phone? Such as opening up pictures, or looking up music, or anything?

edit: wait, nevermind, i re-read your last post, kinda answers it sorry

yea class rating only applies to the writing of data to the card. the speed of accessing the memory relies on the processor of the device its running on.

ya i would guess it's a class 2. I would suggest you try it out first and see how it works.

To be honest i don't think the "class" level is all that accurate anyway. Try it out and if it takes to long to save a photo you'll want to invest in something faster. you'll notice it trust me. if it takes a minute to save a picture that's too long.

theyre most likely not 100% accurate, but extremely close. but look at it this way: a 15 MP DSLR camera set at its largest resolution (cant remember which one) on a high ISO setting takes digital pictures at the size of 5-6 MB on average. a class 2 writes at a min. of 2 MB/s. write speed would generally hit this minimum when writing a large amount of data, so a small 6 MB file would be written somewhat faster. so if it is written at a speed of even 4 MB/s it would take about 1.5 seconds to write it to the card. being an 8 MP camera on the incredible, at the highest quality settings the pic files shouldnt be larger than 3.5 MB which would take less than a second to write to a class 2 card, maybe a full second worst case. on a class 4, it may take up to half a second to save. its literally a matter of 1/4 second differences, unless youre using it to save substantially larger files to the card for other purposes, which you would def. want a higher class (such as saving a 1 GB file on a class 2 in 4 1/2 minutes vs. saving to class 4 in about 2 minutes).

Well another awesome day! but now heading off to Vegas for the weekend first thing in the morning! hope to see Verizon releasing the phone next week when i get back! ha that's almost as true as coming home with a couple thousand bucks :p

I must be missing something. I asked the question probably a few hundred posts ago regarding the differences between the Incredible and the Sprint HTC EVO and why someone would go with the Incredible.

Other than the earlier release date and having Verizon service/coverage, is there anything that the Incredible beats the EVO on?

Judging from the excitement and number of threads on this today, the Incredible must be amazing, but when you look at the EVO specs, it meets or beats everything on the Incredible, doesn't it?

What am I missing? Just trying to figure out what direction to go in the next month or so when I'm up for my new every 2.

I don't think you are missing anything. Most people are happy with Verizon and wouldn't be happy with Sprint. That's really it.

Some people claim the larger screen is too large but 4.3" is ideal in my mind. The Evo is a better phone but probably not better enough to make someone abandon Verizon's better coverage (especially if they aren't in a WiMAX area). If Verizon were coming out with the Evo without WiMAX on the 29th, I would be all over it.

Well I'm on Verizon, so I don't have an option to get the Evo unless I go to Sprint. Sprint may be upgrading to their "4g" but they are taking waaaaay to long. Verizon (LTE) hasn't really started and will have their entire current coverage completed around 2012 (ahead of Sprint from my understanding). Spec for spec they are close other than some minor features like forward facing camera on Evo and the kickstand antenna...I'll be happy with the Incredible

Is Verizons coverage and service really that much better than Sprint?

I ask out of sincere curiosity, I'm currently with Verizon and it is great service, before that I was with AT&T for about 10 years and they were great till the merger with Cingular and then they went to the dump BIG TIME. Dropped calls all the time, you name it.

Is Verizon loads better than Sprint across the board or just in certain areas? I'm in the Phoenix, AZ area and Sprint won't have the 4G going anytime soon anyways, but when I look at the specs on the EVO, it just seems like a no brainer sort of. Especially when you factor in the minimum $30 to $40 a month cheaper bill?

I would really wonder how Sprint compares to Verizon though, because at the end of the day, it is still a phone and I still need to make and receive calls. :) Doesn't really matter if you have the best phone if it can't even do what it is designed to do.

Who knows? That 4.3" screen looks pretty sweet though, and really it seems to have as good or better specs on EVERYTHING compared to the Incredible.

Aaaahhhh, decisions, decisions.

thats my stance here too...honestly if the evo was coming out on verizon or ATT I would get the EVO over the incredible. but since sprints coverage really sucks where I am , it's incredible all the way.

just pull up the coverage maps for both in your area and compare the 3g. if sprints 3g compares with verizon you should be golden. no need to worry about voice coverage since sprint can roam on verizons towers (voice only) free of charge.

I'm in AZ as well. From my experience, AZ (esp. Phoenix) has been a very strong Verizon signal market.

I live in the Phoenix area as well. Verizon has been awesome for me all over the valley. I used to have AT&T which sucks here (ex. I received a text message 4 DAYS after it was sent). I don't have any experience with Sprint but from everything I've read, Verizon is rated #1 in the Phoenix area.

As for the Incredible vs. Evo, yeah the Evo has better specs but it's not enough to get me to switch. And if I was willing to wait for the Evo, why not wait for the Moto Shadow due out in the summer? It appears the it will be better than the Evo and it will be on Verizon. At some point you just have to get a phone and accept that it will be exceeded by another phone in a couple of months.

I think a large part of why everyone on here is excited is that Verizon is finally coming out with a top of the line phone. A lot of us have refused to give up the network quality of Verizon for the better phones but lesser networks out there. But now, when the Incredible releases, it will be considered by many to be the best phone on the market and it will be on the best network.

No question Verizon service has been top notch. Based on the coverage maps Sprint looks like it would be pretty much just as good (at least in the Valley of the Sun).

I agree that something newer and better is always going to be coming, and the differences between the Incredible and the EVO aren't earth shattering, but still the EVO beats it on many things.

I guess it will come down to a 6 to 8 week lead launch for the Incredible versus the coverage and cost of going with Sprint. Like I've said, over a 2 year time, $30 to $40 a month definitely adds up.

Just have to wait and see what the cost of the phones ends up being and when they actually arrive, and with what features. ;)

Thanks for the input though.

I thought it would be fun to just check how my coverage would be on sprint, and apparently my house is like the only spot in the area with full coverage, and "best" everything. But if i drive 2 blocks or so, I go to "good" "fair" or "roaming". Haha

Just compare the specs of the two phones. If all you really care about is the phone with the "best" specs, then take your business to Sprint and get an EVO. Problem solved. You're not "missing" anything and there isn't anything TO miss. Just do your homework. The User Guide for the Incredible was leaked today. We have the official specs for it. Go the the Evergreen thread and read the confirmed specs for it and compare it to the EVO. Is the EVO a better phone? Maybe. That is, if more specs and a bigger screen equals "better" to you.

By the way, the way that you keep saying "am I missing something" sounds like you're trying to knock on the Incredible and pale it in comparison to the EVO. We're all with Verizon, we're NOT getting the EVO or a variant of it for a long time probably. So, we're not really even concerned with that phone because we're not leaving Verizon. We love the network that we're on. If Sprint was so good, we would have switched to Sprint a long time ago. However, to each his own.

Bottom line: If you think a 1/4 of an inch larger screen size, an HDMI output and HD video shooting is worth switching to Sprint...go for it. We're not going to talk you out of it. You should do whatever makes you happy. If the EVO makes you happy, take your business to Sprint. It's as simple as that really.

Has it been confirmed that the Incredible is not getting 720p video capture?

Aren't the 8MP cameras in the Incredible and EVO the same? The Incredible should be capable, right?

It may or may not launch with 720p video capture, but if it's not launched with it, evidence was found that it should be capable of it, and can be added in a future update.

That's from my understanding at least.

Not trying to "knock" anything, just a relative newbie. Up to 2 weeks ago, hadn't even really looked at smart phones as I wasn't due for my Verizon upgrade for another month or so.

A couple of friends just got the Droid Eris and I thought it was the cat's meow till I started actually learning about "smart" phones and now I see that it is nice, but completely outdated compared to what is coming.

I love Verizon, have never had a problem, and don't really want to move, and if it really just comes down to a difference in screen size (.5 inch), camera, and HDMI, then it may not be that big of deal.

Like I said, I wasn't trying to "knock" the Incredible, just trying to figure out if it was better, best, etc...

Sad thing is when I do actually get one of these phones after having my ENV2 for the last 2 years, I can't wait to screw it up messing around with ROM's, Rooting, etc... that I have absolutely no clue about. :D

The Incredible is capable of it, but it doesn't appear to be included...at least not yet. From what I can see from the user guide, the video shooting file type is ONLY .3gp. Which is normal cell phone video that we're all used to. However...that could change by launch or we could find out more details. Who knows? Currently, it doesn't look like the Incredible will be capable of shooting HD video.

ya cancel it - You want a class 6 or better. class 2 is stupid slow.

It really depends on what you are doing with it. If you want to read movies or plan on shuffling a whole lot of data around, Class 6 will be better than Class 2. If you just plan on tossing on some MP3s and using the storage for the extras that apps need, Class 2 is fine. With the 8 gigs of space internal, I'm not sure that I would go overboard just yet. The price of the larger Micro SDHC cards will go down over time.

In the event that the phone doesn't come with a card, I will just use my 4 gig Class 2 that I've already got music on out of my Voyager, until I feel like dropping the extra cash for another accessory. I'll be getting a larger battery first, before anything else for this phone.

For what it's worth, the Eris came with an 8gb Class 4 and the Droid came with a 16gb Class 2... so...

Yeah, if you do a side-by-side comparison of the HTC Evo and the HTC Incredible, you will find that there are just some few differences.

1. The Evo's screen is 4.3" and the Incredible is 3.7". If you actually do a physical size comparison, you only gain about a 1/4 of an inch with the Evo's screen. However, the Evo's screen isn't AMOLED, which the Nexus One and Desire have. AMOLED is much more power efficient, has much brighter colors, is just overall capable of being brighter and the contrast ratio is MUCH higher. The Evo doesn't have this type of screen. So, that's a +1 for the Incredible.

2. The Evo is a 4G phone. 4G means "fourth generation." Sprint decided to go with WiMAX as their 4G technology of choice. However, WiMAX through Sprint is only found in 11 states, currently, and even in those states, it's limited to the few major big cities in that state. So, doesn't work everywhere, not even close. The Incredible is still 3G. Verizon is using LTE technology for it's 4G technology but won't roll it out completely until early next year. LTE is said to be the future mobile data standard, WiMAX will more than likely quickly be outdated.

3. The Evo films in HD. Probably not 30 fps (frames per second), because the phone is so small. So, that means that in all honesty, while it WILL be in high definition, the quality won't be anything like what you seen on television or on a Blu-ray disk. As far as we know, the Incredible only films in SD (standard definition) which is 720x480p. That's what we call "DVD quality." The camera on the Evo and Incredible are exactly the same. 8 megapixels with a dual LED flash. Identical.

4. The Evo has HDMI output. This means you can output video to your TV or HDMI ready monitor. I could honestly never see myself doing that, but who knows, it might get used a few times.

5. The Incredible has 8GB of onboard movinand shorage. That's fancy talk for " it has 8 gigabytes of built in memory." The Palm Pre has the same feature. The Evo, however, does not have this.

6. The Evo has a front-facing camera. The Incredible does not.

7. The Incredible supports WiFi 802.11 b/g/n. The Evo does not support "n." Which is the current fasted speeds you can get on WiFi.

I BELIEVE that's about it. So, are the phones THAT different? There's some wins and some losses on both sides. Take your pick. There's the best comparison I can think to give.

one catch to the Wireless N standards that my previous research turned up when the subject was first brought up: N is the fastest, but much like the good ol a/b/g days, the router will only go as fast as the slowest device using it. in other words, unless you're running a "pure" N network, you'll still only be seeing B/G speeds

EDIT: Night Nash. Night rest of the forum.

I still don't understand why BB would be selling a phone like this before the VZW stores would.

I'm worried that if I buy at BB my ne2 isnt eligible.

P.S testman is back up... just no adds

Hello guys I am here to save the day for anyone doubting these leaks. A couple weeks ago i told you my ex coworker now Verizon store manager told me a superphone was coming out soon codenamed for his store imagio with weird specs to through employees off well its 100% definitely happening. Best buy leaks 100% true I work there. He also said its ready now so could be sooner. And no pics yet only info page that says date but its policy can't tell. But I'm betting 29th he belives there will be a slight change just like the evo in the backing let's pray or its nexus one for me. Which will be on sprint by the end of April. Called them as if i wanted a nexus one to sign up and he told me he had date but can't tell but would be calling me very soon and even put me on a reserve list.

Can you tell I'm in the cell phone business ha ha. Just so you know when they have a date but can't tell its guaranteed out no later than 3 weeks.

Also we will have choices as you know Verizons been quite he assured me between now and end of may we will see about 10 new phones 5 being very nice smartphones. I will personally be at best buy ha ha the day it comes out.

Until then no need to worry 29th I tell you is guaranteed.

Verizon will be #1 and stay #1. Especially when they get the iphone.

And I'm doing this all from my eris while listening to Pandora. Take that AT&T.

Thanks

For anyone interested, Newegg.com is a great resource for inexpensive hardware for pretty much anything technology related. They have a decent selection of 16GB SD cards for between $30 and $35 with speeds up to class 10.

That's probably where I'll end up getting mine from.

EDIT: I should learn to be more observant. These are standard SD cards. Not micro. They are useless to the purposes of this thread. Move along. Nothing to see here....
