[ROOT GUIDE] Boost Mobile Samsung Galaxy S2

Awesome! I am rooted now. It installed SuperSU for me with that. Was expecting Superuser since that seems to be the de-facto in every other form of rooting I'd seen :o

Okay, since that, I was able to (re)install...

  • AdFree (a total godsend, and pretty much my 'killer app')
  • SD Maid (cleanup)
  • SD speed increase (helps)
  • Total Commander
  • Voodoo CarrierIQ Detector (gotta be sure - all green, thankfully :D )
  • Voodoo OTA RootKeeper (saved my ASS with my old TU)
anything else I should look for to at least try? :D

Glad you got it the way you like. Carrier IQ has been removed long ago. Such a big stink arose from people finding out, and caused OTA updates sent out to remove it from phones that had it (the prevail for one). I disabled my phone from checking for OTA updates as I prefer to be in control of that. My must have apps are Droidwall (firewall), ES file explorer, Titanium Backup, I also like Gemini App Manager.

Is there any difference to using SuperSU instead of just straight superuser on a GS2?

Would there be any benefit in me switching from SuperSU to Superuser?

Just to be sure. if rooting won't interfere with the updates, is it possible to just run the update on rooted phone without it bricking the phone?

This recent update will not be successful if you are rooted. It patches the exploit. You'll have to be non-rooted and without any other modifications.

This darn update caused me a huge headache by messing up my text and data. Then again I'd rooted using Exynos Abuse...

Strange, because I started out on stock FI22; rooted with Exynos Abuse.

Installed Voodoo OTA rootkeeper. Within it, after making a backup of my root, I then hit the button to "temporarily un-root". Then I did the update, since it was griping about doing it about 10 times an hour. After the update and restart of the phone, I then went back to OTA rootkeeper and had it restore the backup.

All is well here, on stock FL24, too. Not sure why you are having troubles.:(

I've been wondering the same thing, I had root before as well but decided to do the update so I took my phone back down to stock and installed the updates. I'm now deciding if I should root again or if it is even possible with this new update... and your right..., it is mighty quiet around these here parts...

I did this yesterday with the full update, I have not had a single issue with it.

Hey Guys,

Will the intructions on the OP work for anyone running FL24? Havent seen a definate answer from any of the senior members.

root guide does work for FL24. used SelfElevated2's guide to find FG31 root .tar.
baseband ver. s:d710.10s.fl24
kernel ver. agat_fi27_kernel#vo.0.6.8

now my question is can i use the mobile odin to flash jellyverse?

No boosts stock ROM isn't supported by mobile Odin unfortunately. But as soon as your off the stock rom it will work for you on sprint rom..

Heard you could modify the build prop to take bst of the end of d-710 and it will work but I've never tried it. Nor do I know exactly what to change

there is a root apk on xda called framaroot for samsung phones and some lg phones. it should work with the new update. thats for those without a computer to use and just want root

Hello, I am new here and this is my first reply, so I'm sorry if I'm not doing this right.

I have the Boost D710 on 4.0.4, build FL24...is it safe to follow your instructions to root my phone? I only question because your post was created last year and I just received the FL24 update, and wasn't sure if you had the same build or not when you originally wrote the instructions. Thanks!!

Yup its safe to use the guide on fl24. I've been asking the guyph to update the op.. Don't worry just follow the guide and create a thread if u need help.. There are many of us that can walk u through it:)

Thanks for the quick response. I rooted a Galaxy Nexus a couple years ago, but for some reason now I'm so worried about doing it and bricking the phone. It's nice to know I have somewhere to go now and ask if I have any questions. Makes me feel a little better about doing it!

No problem its actually really simple and when your done you'll say well that was easy. There is one part that always confuses people and that's when the go to DL the agat kernel there are many options...you want the agat0.6.8 tar to use in Odin
