What is Project FM Radio?

Project FM Radio (aka PFMR) started HERE with the simple quest to get the built in radio chip on the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus.

Project FM Radio is so close to being completed! There have been some set backs, but soon we should be able to enjoy FM radio on our phones, and conserve our precious 4G data :D

Currently, we have the Radio itself working, but no audio is being outputted.
I had audio working for a minute, but then my phone rebooted itself and gave me Morningcall :/ ...

The people "officially" working on this is h4x0rj3ff, sammyz(?), rhino889a, and myself.

So, what are your thoughts on Project FM Radio?
Do you have any ideas that could get this working?
Give your thoughts below! ^_^

hey 2gig you think when you copyed libasound.so over thats what sent you into morningcall? or did you do something else? i read some where that morningcall looks at *.so files....

I used the LTE2 FM radio activation method, my own scripts, and libasound.so in conjunction with the Spirit FM 6 app
;)

2G, try it on a deodexed ROM, after that, try it on CM10.

Good idea :D

was a signal obtained? research shows some phonees didnt get an antenae.the used the hole for something else? i am not sure if i have really gotten a signal
and on somephones it was necessary to use adb and change a few registers to reroute the audio

i personally have not made much progress. it seems to load the driver. i dont actually get a signal though.
does anybody know how i can manually load a driver?
i noticed the chip has its own codec.

and i mught add. that some phones are getting fm tramnsmissions as the chip has that function.

2Gig was able to listen to radio...then he soft bricked :p

I read that after i posted wow
.! are guys gettin it now?

In away evertthing about this phone is downgraded
I am going to mention this one more time
Fm wallkie talkie
And many different bands this is an international phone
They had totally bury everything that this realy can do.
The bootloader may not be unlocked for along time because many people actually got it for 50 dollars

This is cool, it will be interesting to see if it can be made to work. Too bad FM broadcast radio sucks, at least around here, so for me it would be just a curiousity and I'll still use streaming radio.

Does the spirit use a FM radio? I can't wait to get my desktop here at my new place so I can continue working on this phone...

Hey guys! Sorry I went MIA for a little, my PS3 pulled me into its web last night :p

Downloading CyanogenMod now to see if this little trick will work on there.... ;)

Since the Spirit has a Snapdragon S4 processor, it has an FM radio :D Only problem? LG is a giant (insert bad word here) and has excluded the drivers, libs, and scripts needed to get it working.

I however, am very close to getting it going!

Fwiw, any phone with a Snapdragon S4 processor has FM Radio. Its just up to the manufacturer to provide the drivers, libs, and scripts needed to have it work....

Nope. CM has libasound.so already, but it isn't communicating to the FM chip because (I think) of the RIL.....

Going to a stock Deodexed rom...

Deodexed is producing sound (more like distorted static voices) on 89.3 and 90.7. Any higher and the phone reboots by it self and gives Morningcall :/

This is starting to piss me off....

make a logcat while going up in frequency, maybe you can find what causes it to do that.

I wouldn't know who to e-mail (and I imagine we would get the same run around as we have with the bootloader thing) but has anyone tried contacting LG and asking for the files? (It's metro's fault!!!) :D

Not metro's fault, if it was, then we'd be running LW770 (LG Optimus Regard) Firmware right now.

I was joking about the "it's metros' fault" thing. I was impersonating LG (because of the whole bootloader thing)
