From iPhone to Note 2.. I'm in Love!

Yeah, both softwares have nice features that they can learn from each other. Entertainment wise, Google Play is far behind iTunes, not just in apps but in music and movie selections. In addition, HD Movie in Google Play is a joke! Samsung Media Hub HD movies are far higher quality. I think that Touchwiz is better than plain JB because it is more intuitive to use...but again, not as intuitive as Apple iOS. I think that for the average person (like me), iOS is better software wise. Google (and to a lesser extent Touchwiz) needs to learn from Apple that not everything needs submenu of a submenu of a menu! Make it easy to recognize the additional "hidden" features and consistent across the board.

As for security, it is well known that iOS is very secure. Yeah, there was a recent survey that says otherwise. There is always some survey that sides with one or the other. But, the most telling part is that US government favors iOS over Android for security reasons. That is just facts. Look at how many times Google has to "clean up" Google Play of spam. Once every few months or so?

I do like certain simple widgets on Android...for example, the speed dial widget ("Touch 2 Dial") is infinitely useful for me on the road. Love it. "Advance clock widget" is yet another genius widget that is a model of simplicity and concise information! I would love Apple to make basic (non-battery draining) widgets available.

But, hardware, I love Note 2's cell reception!! The Wifi also locks on quicker than Apple iPhone 5. Overall, I am happy with both...and I have both in my house. :)

I think what I really want is IOS on the note 2 :o)

Are you nuts?! If that happened, I'd steer far away from it. LOL. Unfortunately, iOS is not for me.

This is coming from someone who avoids Apple like the black plague.

Everything comes down to the person's choices and preferences. What I like, another person will not like. It's important to respect their decision and have a meaningful discussion (or debate). ;)

I just got the note 2 yesterday - an upgrade from my iphone 3gs. I want to like this phone but honestly right now I hate it. So many little things the iphone os does that android does not do right. Everything on the iphone is so intuitive, not the case so far with the note 2 at all. Just one small example, when I set the alarm on the iphone and it goes off I get tap snooze and it automatically snoozes for I think 10 minutes. With the note 2 there does not appear to be a snooze function, or if there is I had to somehow configure it.
Then there is the keyboard which is either faulty or impossible to type on. Swift is better but still not nearly as good.

I came from iPhone and while the Note 2 did live up to my high expectations (I was counting down to the end of my contract for months), I can admit that getting all the settings right was frustrating at first. There is definitely a learning curve coming from iPhone. The good news is that once you have your settings the way you want them and get the hang of how a few different things work (and this should only take a few days of use), it's smooth sailing. There's a setting for almost everything, and if you can't figure out how to get to what you need you can probably find someone who had the same issue.

The keyboard thing surprises me. IMO, one of the weaknesses of iOS being so locked down is being stuck with its terrible terrible keyboard.

Finally, the bloatware. I agree that is really annoying. My solution is just to leave all that stuff in the app drawer and try not to think about it. Nice thing about Android is apps are alphabetized in the app drawer so you can find what you do need quickly, and of course keep your favorite apps on your home screens. iPhone also has apps you can't delete ("Newsstand" anyone?) and you can't even hide them away.

The government and enterprise prefers iOS for the same reason that it preferred Blackberry devices - enterprise control systems exist.

They don't for Android unless -

A. Device is rooted, that's unacceptable and defeats the purpose.

or

B. Fully custom programming, as has been under development and consideration by the Department of Defense for a few years already, as part of their new model for interconnected infantry.

For normal users, security knows no bounds because threats know no bounds.

That various government agencies prefer each os for various secure uses doesn't give either a magic mantle of goodness and safety.

When it comes to security, trust nothing, check everything.

In my opinion.

Rock on! :)

Was tired of the iphone, bought my buddies note i717. I just put the sim card in it from my iphone 3gs into the note but all that will work is the phone and the text messages, no picture messages no internet. On a family plan with att with unlimited data so i dont know why this isnt working. Note was set back to factory settings. Any one got any ideas?

Oh another huge negative for me is that it came with all these apps that I apparently cannot remove.. there are probably 5 at n t apps that I don't want, yet I can't take them off....

You cannot remove them without rooting but they can be disabled quite easily. Rather than thread-jack this you can see how to do so at post #20 at

and you can see what some of us have disabled at

I'm not 100% sure about this but I think you have to change some APN settings to get everything to work.
I'm on my phone right now so I can't look this info up for you.
Sorry

Sold my iPhone 5 and bought a Note 2 to hold me over until the next crop of devices about a few weeks ago.

I previously bought a brand new Note 2 back in January (white) and I hated it. So I sold it and now I am using the titanium one.

To be honest, the iPhone 5 was the better complete package in terms of functionality.

Note 2:
-All keyboards I tried sucked
-Build quality is horrendous. Creaking here and there. The plastic dings and scratches.
-Chipping on the S-Pen from just pulling it out.
-Volume rocker and power button are loose.

The only thing making up for the downfalls are:

-I got multi-window any app working (spent like 2 hours rooting)
-I got free tethering working

Overall I really miss iCloud, iTunes, etc from Apple. The camera was better on the iPhone 5 too.

But for all intent & purposes all your post bashing the Note 2 make it extremely clear this isn't the phone for you.
New or not, why didn't you just get the iPhone?
If you just wanted to give $200 away I know a lot of charities.

Hes not bashing it, just stating his experience with it. Just so happens I'm experience so far has been pretty much the same as his... That doesn't mean I'm bashing it either.

Well, did you go out and buy another Note 2? If you hate something so much, then why spend even a penny on it when there are perfectly good alternatives out there?? That is just stupidity at the core of it. I am not bashing, but just stating the obvious. Look, I am an iOS fan too (see prior posts).

Chris, next time you want to throw $200 at something you hate, then why not donate that money to Red Cross or something worthwhile...how about donating to the Boston victims or our soldier families?

Bash....trash....it's all the same to many of us.
Don't get me wrong, I definitely understand bad experiences; no piece of tech is perfect yet at the end of the day if my experience has more negative that positive, I'm not going to waste more money and get another.

When the Evo 3D came out I had mine on launch day. MY particular phone had a lot of issues I wasn't willing to put up with despite how much other people were enjoying theirs. I didn't wait 13 days then return it on the 14. 2 days was enough for me to say bye bye and never look back.

Bloody hell, if someone was offering me a Note 2 for 200 bucks, I'd take it in a heartbeat. Then I wouldnt have to mess around with my upgrade tricks on Verizon.

I've lost count of how many phones I've given away for free. I keep telling myself I'll keep my current phone as a backup when I get a newer one but it never works out like that. Someone in my immediate fam is always in need of a phone so if I can do some good by giving away one of mine.....it's all good.

Welcome to the Note family. If I may ask, what was the app that bricked your phone? I've never heard of an app being able to do that.
Sorry it took time to answer. It was Light Manager by Mc Koo

I absolutely love this phone and don't miss my iphone at all. My Note2 is a huge hit at work and takes gorgeous photos so my bosses always ask me to use my phone for events lol

No apologies necessary and thank you for letting us know what the app is.
I'm delighted you're enjoying your phone. Here's hoping we see you around these forums a lot.

EDIT: You said Light Manager bricked your phone. Was your phone rooted?
