Root [ROM][MS870] Katana

Thanks GT. Your a beast. I was trying to write you before but I never got a response. I was wondering if you are working on jellybean anytime soon? If not do you have the inside track on any legitimate future roms?

Yeah I have my PM box disabled on my account so no messages come through.

JB is an enormous difficult project I wont have the time for, so it's one I wont be involved in. Unless I come up with a big upgrade, I wont be doing anymore roms, just updating the ones I already did.

I will be doing a bunch of themes and a couple mods, but that's about it for now. ;)
 
been running Katana for bout 24 hours , got a good install, so far I like as well , smooth n nice. EXCEPT lol the dark font color on black for some of the third level deep text menu options like on Lock screen options , "owner info" you got dark text on black when typing you cant see what your typing , please fix or lemme know if something like kitchen can change it , thanks for a great rom and jumpstarting the themeing, dont like all white , how bout one more with just those black on black and white on white font switched, just wann bee able to read it , good work , ty

This doesn't have to do with the ROM itself, but how do you change the MetroPCS on the status bar/lockscreen?

I guess it wont be a problem, just didn't want to brick. The esteem had the bootloader unlocked so no security check which allowed any app to be uninstalled.

I adjusted the colors for the deep menus and popups in this rom and for the alarm clock.

The LG @mail app & LG file manager have LG's special code that doesn't allow them to be compiled, I imagine for security reasons.

You can now see what you type in the LG @mail app, but I will add K-9 mail to use in place of it.

I will also add ES file explorer to use in place of LG file manager.

I will post the update today or tomorrow with change log.

The @mail app, Gmail & Email can all be deleted without a brick. On this phone I'm 99.9% positive of this because I deleted all with a reboot before flashing a custom Gmail & themed plsy store. I did it with stock and with your KATANA ROM.

I might leave them in but supplement them with the apps I mentioned above for the nit pickers.

Would it be possible for me to use your ROM, for theming? No promise I'll be successful, but I'm going to try and start theming again. Thing is, if I create a theme for stock ROM, it would be counter productive because I and everybody else on the root side uses your ROMs.
Either way is fine with me,if I can't use yours then I'll gladly just create a bloatware free ROM to theme. Just figured since I use Katana, I would ask to use it.

All I really ask from anyone is to not use my ROM as a base in any way for making a rom.

Using someone's rom as a base and making a couple changes and throwing a theme on it, is not a rom by any means. That's just a glorified theme. lol

For theming Katana, you will need 6 apk's at most. Depends on how expansive you want to make your theme. You can do it with as little as the SystemUI.apk only. It all depends on how far you want to take it.

Here's a list of apk's to theme for a full out theme...

LGContacts3.apk
framework-res.apk
LGUSMms.apk
LockScreen3.apk
TaskManager.apk

Once your done, make a flashable package of your themed apk's and make your post.

I know a theme is not a ROM, but I know what it's like to have a love child. That feeling of losing your virginity all over again while your ROM loads to your dropbox, you wonder if your internet is slower than usual..because it is taking longer than it should. That smile you can't wipe off your face when you create "new thread", with screenshots that glorify your blood, sweat & tears. The checking & re-checking of your instructions, because the only reason your awake is more Red Bulls than one should endure in a week...that you have drank just today. All you want to do is upload it, pass out. Yet, you upload it, and you wait for the first few comments to roll in to make sure everything rolled out correctly...even though you have triple checked everything and know it's smoother than you imagined.

^^That is why I asked. I know what it is like to dev, and to feel possessive over something. Not that I am a greedy bastard, I just wanted to get permission. Also thanks for the heads up! I forgot to pull the task manager .apk, guess I'm going to start working on this before the wife gets home and wants me to show her lovin'.

Dang I hope you don't feel or go through any of that when you make your post. That's way over the top for just a hobby. Well at least for me it's a hobby. I guess I would feel the way you described if I asked for donations, which is not my style.

Glad your back in biz. Now we can have more eye candy for our phones. :) No pressure. lol

For a full on ROM, yes I used to feel that way. Back then it was mostly flashing unsigned .cab files though. I remember being on the team porting Cupcake to the HD2. That's when I realized Windows Phone was dead, when your completely replacing the UI to a different operating system...the original OS is dead.
Then Windows Phone did just that, transformed into Windows 7, turned into Apple clones and died haha. I remember when debranding a ROM was hard, and all phones came with Maps but you had to pay for GPS unless you unlocked it through code.
I'm feeling really nostalgic for my HTC Elf right now :(

For a theme, I have no connection to it. It's just a theme. I'm way to busy these days to even consider making a ROM though.

I finally got a chance to look at this, but I'm not sure if this would work for us. I think he made those for the Nexus which can potentially brick us. Unless someone who doesn't mind bricking tries it to let us know. lol :D

edit: This still may help in getting our Gapps inverted.

Actually I tried the black and Trasparent Play store and the black YouTube last night and they all worked but I know the Google now one won't work but doesn't cause brick ..
