Root How to root

Ok...was having all of the problems mentioned previously. I removed my SD card and reset to factory. Finally it worked. Now off to the next step I go..

FYI people - I don't remember if it was mentioned before or not BUT, if your having trouble with this ROOT "PLEASE extract zip to C: root directory on computer". I couldn't get it to work until I did THIS! THIS IS A MUST DO!!!!

How long should the entire rooting process take?

I followed the instructions, the screen stated "Daemon started Successfully" and I've been waiting for about 5 minutes and nothing seems to be happening.

I have Lookout on my Spirit plus Norton on my laptop; do either need to be disabled?

ok, it went through all steps and I did receive a few error messages

By phone rebooted twice but when I went to check on certain apps, they all stating that they could not be opened because my phone was not rooted

Now I am thoroughly confused.

I tried it again and here is what I received...

WAITING FOR PHONE TO REBOOT
ATTEMPTING PERSISTENCE
REMOUNT FAILED. OPERATION NOT PERMITTED
FAILED TO COPY "SU" TO SYSTEM/BIN/SU: read only file system
UNABLE TO CHMOD/SYSTEM/BIN/SU. NO SUCH FILE OR DIRECTORY
FAILED TO COPY BUSYBOX
FAILED TO COPY SUPERUSER
CLEANING UP
REBOOT
EXPLOIT COMPLETE
PRESS ANY KEY TO EXIT

I am totally lost as to what to do next.

Please help.

ok, the C Directory thing is the key. I tried it and it worked the second time.

My phone is officially rooted

Time to play

Thanks SO much to MEAT0255 for that tip

Im sure I'll be back soon with more questions

Our root method is a bit picky. It can take a few tries before it works. Its taken me as much as 6 tries to get it to work.

What seems to help for me is to disable stock apps that I don't use like maps & street view before I root. This method usually gets me rooted within 2 attempts.

what helps me is: kicking and screaming, rolling around on the floor crying WHY WHY ME!! JUST WORK!! PLEASE JUST WORK!!!

To be serious, the first time I did it worked fine, but when I soft bricked the phone messing with thing. It took me like 5 tries to get it to take.

for those that have trouble getting the root to take. the way I've found it works is by having the phone set to USB Tethering

Strange shyt varies so much between users on this device... myself included. I had to use LG Software mode and I had to convert the script to bash to run on linux. I also added the bits so it should run on OSX too. ;) I will be uploading soon for those who use OSX and Linux. ;)

We have the linux one, but it got lost in the thread. lol The osx one will come in handy for the mac users. Both need to be added to OP though, so we don't loose them again.

This sounds like your Spirit has arrived. lol :D

edit: root sticks more easily when you debloat a little first

it's against everything natural to have an Android connected to a mac.

Linux isn't much better than osx. They still suffer from not being able to install programs easy.
That depends on the user. I've been using linux for years now and find it easier to use than windows.

Linux is for the more advanced user that can do things in terminal and doesn't need a gui much.

Windows is nice, but has way too many security and resource flaws. lol

wouldn't call it advanced. I'd call it behind. it's more for simple use. like a chrome book;)

the only ones that have to worry about security risk are those that have something to hide:p

everyone has their own likes and dislikes. I've used ubuntu "OOO-BOON-TOO" off and on for years. and other forms of linux before that. Tried Mac for two weeks packed it back up and took it back.

I tried windows 8, ran screaming for my life.:vroam:
