Root [GUIDE] System Backup/Restore for LG Motion 4G (root nand)

Ah ok. I assumed that but I wasn't sure and we all know what's said about assuming :D. Thank you for clearing that up for me and for the quick and clear response to my post.

I seem to be unable to restore my backup(s). I've tried on multiple intances but every attempt leaves me with an error saying something like "error in restoring /system" It passes the MD5 check and must start to write something b/c after this error if I try to reboot it sticks on the LG screen, making me do the unbrick method all over again. . . frustrating to say the least.

Anyone else have this problem and/or have any advice?

I haven't tested this, but it might work-

  1. Use unbrick guide to restore your system to the same firmware version to match your /system backup (C, D, E, F).
  2. Make a backup copy of your nandroid.md5 file.
  3. Use an android editor on nandroid.md5 to remove the entire line with system.ext4.tar (don't use a windows or crapintosh desktop to edit the file, or it will corrupt)
  4. Try restoring. It may be able to restore without the /system.
 
I followed instructions closely, but when I launch the apk and click on 2nd-init Recovery all I get is a pop-up message saying "success". It does not reboot. Help me out; thanks.

I think you might be hitting the top button and not the bottom one...

If you hit the top button it should say 'success' because it (I guess - I have no real proof here) creates the files necessary to go into recovery in our device.

After you do so - just click the second button and it should restart and just 'freeze' at the LG logo... Then click the volume up or volume down keys to get the recovery menu to show up.


As a safe bet though - you should always just mash vol up/down when rebooting your device from the recovery app so that you always get the menu to pop up.

If you do it right it'll probably pop in and out a bunch of times (because you're mashing on the volume keys). If it does that just stop mashing it and click it slowly until it stays up.

You're right. I though I was only suppose to click on init-Recovery and of I went. Thanks I got it to work.
 
I got the app on the phone, I pressed 2nd-init recovery, but then it said success with no reboot. What does that mean?

EDIT : I prssed reboot recovery after, and did all that you guys told me to do.

EDIT #2: It says "Error while making a backup image of data!"
 
Its not working...
I did the whole first button then second button and when I press reboot recovery, it just reboots normally . I have the cm 10.0 Rom installed so obviously this worked before. It just doesn't work now.:(

You don't need this for when you have CM10
Just hold the power button and it'll say reboot recovery :p

I'm assuming reboot system is safe?

Reboot recovery only from advanced will wipe brick the phone?

but if I install quickboot app is reboot recovery safe from there?

so make sure when in cwm only reboot system?
 
If I had a call volume fix it would be fine. On all my other phones when custom recovery got screwed I'd just reflash it. What does unbricking do does it wipe the phone? If so I might see if my wife can live with the low call volume and unbrick when there is an update to cm10 if fixing it is necessary to flash another rom.
 
I tried copying the apk in system/app and it popped up a message stating "read only file, cannot paste"

Yes I am rooted but i did run a bloatware removal on my phone some time ago. Maybe this is causing a conflict?

Any ideas?
