I'm coming from a dumb phone and have turned off texting because I kept getting junk texts. Do I have to pay $5 for texting, or since I have Google Voice, will that be sufficient? i want to begin texting, but don't know if I will use it that often.

Thanks to everyone for all the information on the Incredible here on this thread. I've learned a lot from your posts. I hope I can figure out this phone (I'm a phone technology challenged user) when I get it. But I'm sure I'll be able to find the answers here.
I'm in the same dumb phone boat, and Google Voice is what i'm planning to use for texting. I'm pretty sure this will work and we won't have to get a text plan.

We can always just add the text package later if it turns out we're going to need it.

As far as front facing cameras are concerned. Here are my thoughts...
Good idea in theory, Bad idea in the real world.

First the good.
At home you can talk to the person face to face.
Maybe show them something that pictures just won't do justice.

The real bad.
The moron people that will use this while driving. You thought texting was bad you ain't seen nothing yet.
The moron people that will use this in a grocery store not paying attention to where their cart runs your ass over.
The people jogging using the camera at the same time. Can you say Car food.

Yes, but think of all the fun FAIL and YouTube videos there will be!

Is the inc. screen the same as the one on the nexus one??

Can i please get some good Screen protector recommendations???

There is another thread started for screen protectors, many folks asking questions in this thread about them, and most of them have been overlooked. I would suggest checking the other thread, might have a better chance of getting an answer there.

Can someone tell me what does the extended warranty cover vs asurion?

I know the insurance covers lost phones and has a deductible, but what is the extended warranty?

Is anyone looking into buying the insurance through SquareTrade? Epinions.com shows they are rated 4.5 out of 5 by over 600 people.

i currently have the 2 year coverage + Accidental coverage on my Iphone, (had it for a year now) and if i cancel it today they will give me $65 back and i will probably put that towards getting this service for the DI.

All the reviews are saying the phone has poor reception? anyone know if this is a hardware or software issue?
All the reviews are NOT saying the phone has poor reception. I've read 5 reviews and watched 3 videos, and all but ONE said the phone had very good reception, including being able to get data in an underground subway on a moving train.

Most likely, the one reviewer I read who mentioned poor reception, hadn't done a *228 to update programming and location on his phone yet.

Yes. The Google voice App uses data for the text messages (from what I understand) You just need to make sure you turn off the sms forwarding to your cell phone. Also, realize you won't be able to send/receive pictures, video, or voice this way.

so i guess my question is, if they just match it and you dont use your NE2, then would it still be there if you wanted to get another phone?

I'm not sure, but I would say no because when you upgrade to a new device (and extend your contract), your NE2 probably goes out the door.

I have a corporate discount, but I don't believe the discount applies to the phone, only accessories and the plan. I am also a secondary line on a family plan.

I received a corporate phone discount when I bought my Storm. Not sure if that's what is happening here though.

I pre-ordered mine this morning. I too have a corporate phone and acc. discount applied to my plan so the phone with a 1 yr contract was $229. I too am a secondary line on a family plan.

I'm going to a Verizon store in Oklahoma City on the 29th when it opens to get my phone. I'll be in OKC visiting my family. So, that's where I will pick up my Incredible. I have my full NE2 ($100 off) and I'm out of contract. So, that means I'll be getting this phone for $99. Can't wait! I considered pre-ordering like you guys did, but I figured I'd get it just as easily by being at the Verizon store right when they open on the 29th. I'm one of those guys who spent the night in front of Verizon in a downpour of rain to get the PS2 when it came out. haha

so i guess my question is, if they just match it and you dont use your NE2, then would it still be there if you wanted to get another phone?

No, you lose your NE2 once you upgrade your phone whether you use it or not, i.e. if you upgrade your phone through annual pricing as opposed to waiting the extra few weeks or month for your NE2 to be due.

Once you upgrade to a new phone your NE2 resets to 20 months from the most recent phone upgrade.

yeah i saw that in one of the reviews, it showed on the screen "mobile broadband connect" i wonder if thats tethering, and you have to pay for it. maybe nkt or anon can shed some light on this.

Someone mentioned rooting the phone, but I beleive using pdanet will install without rooting. I'd rather be more legit with tethering, but I get upset withthe fact that I have to pay more for the same amount of bandwith...which is now shared via tethering.

Are you logged into my verizon when you look? If you just navigate to the phone on the site with out being logged it, it gives you the $269.99 price. Once I logged in the price changed to $229.99.

Thanks for your responses! I logged into my account and still get the same pricing. I do get a State of CA discount through my employer, which unfortunately doesn't appear to automatically tie into my personal account. So I went through the State of CA VZ website, but the phone isn't showing up on that site yet. I'll try to get a hold of our sales contact and see if I can get the $229.99 pricing.

so i guess my question is, if they just match it and you dont use your NE2, then would it still be there if you wanted to get another phone?

From my research , the answer is no. Not only do you forfeit your ne2, you pay tax on your purchase!

So for me that equates to a $114 diff with tax! So I called BB back an verified, (After I pre-ordered with them) on Sunday. The clerk then told me no issue. The manager today said there is.

So I asked for a refund over the phone. He completely understood and said come on down. I did. The system wouldn't let him refund it.

After some convincing, he agreed to just adjust it at the time I pick it up for customer satisfaction reasons and for putting me thru all that. I got it in writing! WHEW!

Lets hope it works out that way. So be careful! Some BB's are saying yes, others no way! What ever the truth is..... (I don't think THEY even know) be prepared for a fight. I was very logical, reasonable, and kind to him. And he understood. I got lucky.

Yes, but think of all the fun FAIL and YouTube videos there will be!

Or the great videos they will show to all the teenagers about video chat and driving fail...

What part of OKC?
I might be able to get my brother to go to the vzw store for you and reserve a phone.

I read somthing about loggin onto the phone with your gmail account. What if you dont have / want a gmail address. Im just looking for some more info on what exactly ties into the phone & gmail.

Im assuming i can get a widget or app that will pull my hotmail mail down?

Please let me know! Thanks

ive been trying so hard to get verizon to move my upgrade up like 4 months but its not looking good since i have a data plan already... if i was going from a dumb phone to a smart phone one guy said he could

Just an FYI ... I did a 2.1 update on my Eris. And the reception levels were showing low. But I never dropped a call. It's my guess it's actually a calibration issue with the 2.1 software and not really a reception issue. But that remains to be seen.
