I've seen one or two others with other distortion across the net.
Was that for real? I thought that was an effect filter or something...
No unfortunately it was not filtering, that was an actual shot taken with Zoe.
Ok, so from reading around the web and different posts regarding the best ways to use the camera, would these be considered a good rule of thumb to get the most out of general use:
1) Indoor shots - Use normal mode, no flash, tap screen to focus on your subject or subjects
2) Outdoor shots - Use HDR mode or backlight mode to reduce over exposure. Tap screen.
3) Although good in low light, try not to be in too low light or pictures will be blurry. Maybe to minimum of 3 candles in a room for example
4) Never use night mode unless it's below the previous example and keep the camera steady.
5) Use Zoe's or capture an image from a video to capture motion shots and reduce blur
Could someone chime in and let me know if this is a good enough list to follow to create the best pictures? Appreciate the feedback on this.

That's pretty much exactly what's happening with mine: a slight horizontal distortion that looks like the image has shifted. Unfortunately I didn't post a photo because it's a big fat photo of my face, and in images of landscapes it's either not there or not noticeable, unlike the photo in post 59.

Just bought my HTC One tonight and anything that uses the camera causes a crash. I can't get it to pop up and show the camera for even a second. Tried the default camera app and Facebook. I can't find anything on this issue with this phone. Anyone have anything? Tried a restart.

A hard restart might help. Press and hold down the power key for 10 seconds. You may see the capacitive buttons under the screen start to blink or a message come up with a countdown to reboot. This method forces the hardware and software to more fully restart.
You could also try restarting in Safe Mode. This will run your phone with all 3rd party applications disabled on a more clean configuration.
Boot into Safe Mode:
Ensure that Fast Boot is turned off in your Power Settings
Power the phone down and wait for it to be fully turned off for a minute or two
Power the phone back on
When you see the white HTC Boot screen immediately press and hold down the 'volume down' hardware key on the right side of the phone. Hold it until the phone completes start up, and you see the words "Safe Boot" displayed in the lower left corner of your lock/home screen.
To get out of Safe Mode simply power off and power on your phone as normal
If the camera doesn't work in Safe Mode then a back up and Factory Restore may be in order.
If a Factory Restore does not resolve, then there might be an underlying hardware failure.

Only thing left is probably a factory restore then. Tried the others before I contacted HTC and told them everything I had done, and they still wanted me to do it all again. Did it again, same results. I'm thinking it's hardware related because it did it as soon as I got the phone, even before I downloaded anything. Not sure if the factory restore will do much in this case?
Edit: got a replacement and problem solved.
I've had my One for about 4 days now and im still getting use to it. However, I need some help with this camera. IT SUCKS. Is there any settings or anything that I can do to make it better? I was outside in mid day (2pm) and most of my pics came out dark. Even with this flash on. I lovethe build quality of this phone and the specs, however, if there isn't a fix for this lousy camera I definitely have to take this phone back.
Have you checked the standard settings, white balance, scene mode etc? Also made sure HDR isn't on?
Try clearing the cache and data on the camera (Settings -> Apps -> All -> Camera -> Clear Cache/Data).

I tired playing with the settings etc. It made it a little better. However, not much. Also, I noticed wiht HDR on, it took better pics outside in the light.So im totally confused as to what's going on.
No 3rd Party Camera apps make a difference? Camera 360 etc? The pics are still too dark?
I like using the app "Perfectly clear" It does a great job of correcting for dark shots, etc.

If they're all dark regardless, even with another app, I'd take it in and check it.
No app or update ever fixes hardware with that lemony scent.
For outside bright shots I've found HDR must be the mode you use. Under "scene normal" mode the shots are just too dark. HDR seems to be only good under these conditions though. Otherwise the normal auto mode works great 90% of the time. Also, grabbing shots from a zoe works pretty well too! I never thought I would use the zoe feature much but it's great.

I don't know if this belongs here really, but it is camera related. I haven't done much with the camera and have only had the phone for a few weeks. Last night my wife was taking some video of fireworks. The screen was terribly laggy, like it was only showing every other frame. Playing back the video didn't look so bad, but still seemed kind of laggy. The only videos I had taken before we're in daylight. I know I can't expect great quality from night shots, but it acts like the cpu is having a hard time keeping up when doing night shots. Is what I was seeing normal for those conditions?
Probably due to confusion by the software for the auto adjustments in those conditions, worse if you had hdr recording on for that.
Presuming of course that it wasn't something idiosyncratic and your phone was busy managing something else unrelated at the time. Just covering the bases but I'd go with my first speculation.

Hi all,I seem to be getting not the best photos from ny phone. I have all settings to default,I am not a camera setting savy kind of person . I was wondering if someone has played with their settings and has had luck getting better photos? If so,what are your adjusted settings ? Thanks for any advice .

I've added a picture so you can see but there seems to be a lot of noise in it. I was focused on the hats and the room is only lit up by my tv. Even if I focus on the tv, the white balance, exposure seems to be off. I can fix it if I go into image adjustment but it should do it by itself when in default, right?

tap on the screen before you take the picture in the area you are trying to focus on. I am going to make a wild guess that the bright TV (especially if it is shifting from a bright scene to a dark one while taking the picture.) and the area of focus caused that level of noise.
I bet if that TV was off and you used the flash the picture would look great

It just seems to noise in the picture. The TV lights up a lot of the room just thought it would be a lot clearer.
But I still don't know if my camera is working properly. It seems to be over exposing everyting. I was in the park and took a picture of a bug, the grass is brown but in the picture it shows white. Everything is on default and the Sun was behind me.
This is going to look stupid but I took a picture of my food to best show you. The first picture is focused on the steak and the second is focused on the mash. The 1st picture is very over exposed, so much that you can make out any of the details of the mash. The 2nd is very dull.
I don't know if it's me or if I might have a faulty camera.
