i decided to preorder my phone from best buy today so i can attempt to obtain the 500 reward zone pts for activating a smartphone (they said they'll note it, but may not happen), plus earn extra reward zone pts for the same price i'd get at verizon...

anyway, so the interesting thing about this visit (yes, i'm not just babbling) was a brief talk with the manager who was there... i wasn't really paying attention since i knew what i wanted and just wanted to get it done, when she said something along the lines of:

she: "yup, you're all set and just drop by on the 25th to pick up your phone".

me: "the 25th?"

she: "yes, the 25th"

me: "the 25th" (with emphasis)

she (with a "do i stutter" look): "yes, the 25th"

me: "i'm sorry, it's just that everywhere says the 29th"

she: "they originally said the 29th, then switched it to 25th. it's the date we've been telling everyone. if it changes, we'll call you and let you know" (don't know who "they" were)

me: "hey, no complaints from me. i'd take it now if possible"

she: "so would i. i'm going to have a lot of angry people if it's not available on the 25th. <pause> i'm going to double check the date, you've got me doubting myself now."

she then went off and looked up something as i continued paying my deposit with the rep. she then was chatting away with someone else as if there's no issue, but i don't know if she ever double-checked. anyway, take it for what it is.

for those interested, this was at the san diego best buy at mission valley 19apr at about 1630pdt.
 
quick question, you have to have a gmail account to use an android phone, correct?

so can i just use my current gmail account i use with all my emails? someone was saying something like push mail might not work then or something? anyway that account is associated w my GV number and well all my email contacts, everything. should i just make a new phone for my phone or what?

i don't get what the difference is really .anyone have a newbie guide for first time android users? Im very tech savvy, just need to learn the basics / difference between this and my soon to be ex bb habit

No need for a new acount, when you turn the phone on it will ask for your gmail user id and password and it will get to work on getting your contacts an email sync'd :)

Related question:
I have a couple of Gmail Pro accounts [the kind that have an annual fee and use my domain names]. They are obviously GMail accounts, but are not on the gmail.com domain.

Are these Gmail accounts still good for android setup/sync etc?

CONGRATS TO Anonimac and the Captain. You've done great work here, and good to see that your efforts have been recognized. Besides, you were due for a raise, right?
 
Wow I have been away a couple days and I come back to over 100 pages more and some promotions. Congrats Anon and Capt Jager. I really hope I didn't miss anything because there is no way I'm going to be able to catch up.

They are available for sale to others the 29th. By the way he did not think they would have any incredible accessories available initially on the 29th

At the store I work in we definitely take new every two's without an issue.

The phones are supposed to arrive in the store on the 24th. We are going not going to be selling them till the 29th because we will supposedly get fined for each infraction.

Could be different for BBY. I actually wouldn't put it past BBY employees to say something like that just to get your sale, too.

Yea, I used to work at Circuit City too, and just like Circuit City, Best Buy is the same way with street dates. They don't sell things before the street date, they get fined. I know they will receive the phones on the 24th, but they will not sell it to customers then, they might be mistaken.

I went to Best Buy armed with $200 in gift cards to prepay the whole thing off the bat. The salesperson there hesitated and stammered when I asked about the NE2. He said that SOMETIMES they do that and 'it's happened before bunches of times, but...

So, knowing that I only get $30 and I wouldn't be broken hearted if they didn't, I asked him to check for me. I walked away and pretended not to notice what he was doing. I saw him actually hold his phone to his ear and mime like he was talking to someone, but I was close enough to hear that he wasn't saying anything... He returned and said he could not honor the NE2. Now I know of others here who have had it honored. I told him one more time that if he would honor it I would buy it outright. He apologized and said he wished he could. I told him that I would have bought 2 yrs of Black Tie Protection and a bunch of accessories and walked off. He stopped me, took my name and number and said he'd call me back 'after talking to a manager'.

Well, I waited exactly 30 hours and couldn't stand it anymore. I pre-ordered it online, got my NE2, free overnight shipping (with the FREEOVERNT code), and to my surprise,

got to keep my Alltel plan, added the data plan and got my account approved for corporate 20% off. I was very happy to see that the 20% is removed from the voice AND data. So my bill only went up the cost of the data plan (-20%) and insurance. In addition, the corporate discount in my case also reflected as 25% off all accessories on their website...

I love Best Buy, but that skeevy mobile guy lost a sale.

PS Forgive my rambling. I'm finally in the 'pre-ordered' camp and I'm anxiously awaiting 04/29 with the rest of ya...

Should be one in your shipping confirmation email if they send one, if not, you can call any store on the 28th or so and they can look it up in your account

Especially when talking about music, a higher class SD card will greatly benefit you- higher class means faster read/write speeds..

I'm in the same boat. I have Google email at my domain as well as a Gmail account... What are my options/how would it work if I need to get email from both accounts on the Incredible? I'm also new to Android (from BB).

I'm not currently with Verizon.

If I order online, how would I go about getting my corporate discount?

Is there a section for that information? and if so, what is required?

I'm still debating on whether it would be best to order online, or wait and go to the store on the 29th.
 
Has anyone had trouble ordering with gift cards from the Verizon website??

I've been trying all day now and I can get as far as where it asks me to enter the amount on my gift cards (I have 2) and it keeps asking me to reenter my PIN. It's getting incredibly frustrating.
 
I have a Mac computer, and the Inc will be my first Android. It sounds like I can use Doubletwist (?) to sync my iTunes. Do you guys know of any other helpful hints/apps that can help me get my Inc and Mac to work together?

I am sure that as I am typing this Steve Jobs' head is exploding.

Haha, I always point that out to ppl and they are like huh?? You're correct pretty much everything that gets shipped via FedEx goes through Memphis.
