Root [Virgin Mobile] RedSpot uncapped kernel for VM_SGV_JB_4.1.2

Hey guys i need a couple of testers for the new kernel. I've been working out some bugs and am sure they are fixed. Am using CPU Master 'free' to manage the settings and save for startup. Am using with Juice defender and jelly bean power saver both enabled and stable. I wasn't able to get it stable at 1.6Ghz at 'first', BUT i think you guys will be happier with these options, speed and battery usage. Keep in mind not all cpu's are created equal. Some can take a lot more then others and some will just burn up. I've seen it happen. So be warned. If you would like to help test this before i push it to the public then shoot me a pm. And PLEASE keep your speed down and hold on to your hat... lol

I will test it for you.

Hey guys, I recently got my Victory and wanted to test out this kernel but both of the download links appear broken. Let me know, I'm excited to actually use the 1.5Ghz they advertised.

Dang i would like to try this kernel.... i know you did release your sources thats why its closed. But any plans of release that so we can try the kernel???

FYI-

JupiterOne had a harddisk crash, just as he was about to finish a build of CM. He is in the process of rebuilding his workbench, but no ETA on when he will get things back in order. For now, he has allowed me to package his RedSpot Uncapped kernel with Victorious ROM. Once he has his workbench rebuilt, you can expect him to get rolling with developing again.

A couple questions.

The links on the first post to the uncapped kernel do not seem to be working. I assume this is due to JupitorOne's harddisk crash. JerryScript, how do I acquire the file from you then?

Also, with this kernel, does the power saving mode feature still work as before? I find this feature works very nicely for me.

Thanks

The easiest way is to grab the boot.img from the Victorious-0.1.2 download, and make a zip file to flash it (google directions or see below). If you prefer, I can send you a link to it via PM.

You can use the Victorious install zip by opening it with 7-zip (or other good archive manager), and extracting the updater-script to edit. Open the updater-script in a good text editor (something that can use Linux style carriage returns and not Windows style, I use EditPadLite). You will need to remove everything from the extracting system portion to just before the installing redspot kernel portion. Save and replace the original updater-script in the zip file with the edited one (just drag-n-drop in 7-zip). Close the archive manager, and then put the zip on your sdcard. Boot into recovery and choose install from external sdcard, then choose the zip. Reboot and you will be running RedSpot Uncapped!

JupiterOne, that is PRETTY RAD

mein own lady is a 44 year old volvo with a gearbox that refuses to quit. 4spd M41 and then a Laycock de Normanville J-Type overdrive (is that not the most hilarious name ever?) - mandatory triple-actuation: mechanical, electrical, and oil pressure - most days I find it hard to believe it makes it into 5th gear, but it always does.

nice setup on the lockout switch. I'm lucky enough that the M41 requires one to have to pull up on the shifter vertically and then put it back into the slot for 1st, if you want to reverse. yeah, the syncros aren't always too happy about this.

TIME is a precious thing...
Thought i would share with you guys why my time is short when i'm not actually 'working'. I recently upgraded the 4 speed manual tranny in my 31 year old Trans Am with a 6 speed from a new Camaro. It was the last piece of the drivetrain that hadn't been upgraded and a major milestone. ANYWAY, because i do not run a computer for my old hot rod, i had no way to setup the electronic reverse lockout. This lockout prevents the driver from 'accidentally' shifting into reverse while shifting into 5th gear which is right next to it. The lockout un-activates when your speed is below 5mph and your foot on the break. I have no way of doing this with no ECU so i had to come up with a solution so i would not have to continue to force reverse when i need it. Not wanting to disturb the PERFECTLY designed chi in my cockpit, i had an idea! I no longer smoke and obviously there is no smoking in this antique car anyway so i thought hmmm. I'll just hook up the reverse lockout to the cigarette lighter. This way there is no ugly switch mounted somewhere, i don't have to worry about turning it off and, to activate it, all i have to do is push the cigarette lighter in! So that is what i setup yesterday in-between baking the new kernel i posted.

the lighter is in the ashtray in front of the shifter 'that is a 2012 SS Camaro Hurst shifter knob that i convinced to fit my aftermarket Hurst Billet Plus shifter' lol

That reminds me of my old VW Bug with the push down stick shift with no floor clutch. No one could ever borrow my car in college, they couldn't figure out how to drive it. Of course, comparing my old beat up bug to your Rods is pretty pathetic of me, but I just thought it interesting that some issues transcend pricing!

Would very much enjoy to test the RedSpot kernel but cant seem to get links to work. Anyone still have this....? JuspitorOne....?

Thanks

was this the last version that was posted? I remember missing the last version because I was away from the forum for a few days.

I think so. Also I'm pretty sure you can get the last version of redspot from the oldest version of victorious, before they made vaevictus.

Thanks for posting this... my phone was getting painfully slow for some reason (running the latest conquest). Flashed this and walla... back to a relatively snappy state again... It's perhaps a bit slower overall due to not having that tiny bit of extra Ghz (I normally run at 1.728Ghz and it does feel ever so slightly slower, since this kernel runs at max of 1.512Ghz), but it's not locking up for 5 seconds at a time now, or being really sluggish when opening apps. I have a feeling the other kernel (teachme's performance kernel as installed by conquest) has some issues changing frequencies, or perhaps not getting stable voltages ect... not sure exactly yet, but plan to test some things out this weekend.

Thanks again, this will get me through the rest of the week without tearing my hair out!

Here is my anTuTu test screenshot. So far so good. I am enjoying my phone and its performance with the RedSpot kernel combined with the Victorious-0.1.1 ROM. I tried Victorious-0.3.1 (it was just to buggy) and Conquest-112-Cataclysm-Full with fail-safe and teach-me kernels (too large and shut down errors related to 'com.android.phone' stopped). I also dipped my toes into the Vaevictus-MG5-OC and eh, performance was not as great.

So needless to say: Thank You
JupiterOne - for the work you put into this kernel so far everything works ( i tried to V6 supercharge my phone but anTuTu gave me slightly lower scores). So WOW!
MadBat - for having a copy available and for sharing.
Badbrainseddie - For responding to this thread and for sharing the kernel as well.

Shout out JerryScript - Victorious rom

Check this out flashable zips. I used the GoogleCamera 4.4.2, and successfully flashed the new kit kat camera and the gallery( swipe up or down to delete pics, so easy).

What you guys think? before this I was rolling on a steady supply of android, thanks to my BN NookColor with CM 7.2 stable with V6 Supercharger and CPU stepping and voltage tweaks 3937 anTuTu Score .o0o. Wooohooo .o0o.

Day 1 test complete... my goodness I forgot how snappy and responsive this phone can be. JupiterONE you really outdid yourself on this kernel. I didn't even use powersave mode today and have twice the amount of charge as I normally have been getting by the end of the day. I am very impressed, and wondering how it is that we've stepped backwards in performance and battery life with the other kernels... or why it took me so long to realize what was causing my phone to drain and be so darn sluggish. I had just gotten used to rebooting my phone regularly.

Anyways, no issues from what I have noticed. Amazing Kernel... I am using the one in the link madbat posted (3.0.31-RedSpot_v0.4), not sure if its the same one that badbrainseddie posted, so I'm gonna flash it and check the version number.

I don't know if anyone still has the last one Jupiter posted (the overclocked gpu one from the other thread), but I never got to try it out before it was taken down.
