Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Yeah I don't know what to think about that. I doubt we ever get a device on Verizon which gets updates without Verizon getting their grubby little fingers in it first. And locked bootloaders almost certainly. Like a comment said, what's the point. Even if we do get a legitimate Nexus on VZW, it will be a carrier exclusive, and will not come with the price point which makes the Play version so enticing. Verizon knows if the unsubsidized price of a new phone is 350-400, they will never get those remaining unlimited customers off their network.

Stigy, finally ROM'd. Running OSE. It's pretty good. Very full featured. :)
I was going to ROM this week, but I am going to wait for a Vanilla 4.4 build - I have a feeling the G2 may be one of the first phones on 4.4 (besides Nexus devices obviously) due to the N5 being based on the G2. Drivers and such should be very similar.

Happy 32,000 posts! :)
Happy November :)

Happy PAYDAY for The Chief! :D :D :D

Thanks for the recommendations for range extenders and router placement. Sadly, the router isn't going far: our internet cable is run into the home office which is where the router is.

Little old lady is catty-corner across the street on the OTHER side of our house. So my thinking was to put the extenders as close together as possible (divided by about 350') and chain them. If it works, it works. If it doesn't, then we return or sell the extra extender and no love lost trying :)

Morning! So as I figured, Moto does say 4.4 will come to the X. It can't get here fast enough for me though! Not even running 4.3 and it flies right now, hasn't even slowed down since purchase.

So, Stig, how does it handle SMS in Hangouts?? I'm curious to see. Thought about side-loading but not sure yet.

So here are two screenshots I just took - you can see that in the conversation list I have two conversations with my Dad (the train picture) - one is his Hangouts convo and one is his SMS convo. When you go into either one of them you can switch to the other via the spinner in the title bar, but they are not merged into one conversation at all. You just get to select best option when sending.

I'm a bit underwhelmed with the new hangouts, to be honest. I understand why it makes sense to keep them separate, but as it is it's not enough to motivate me to switch SMS app.

I have been unable to get the hang out of using hangouts. It just seems clunky, so I don't know why I would want to use it for SMS too.:dontknow:

Interesting. Sideloading the new apps works fine on non-rooted phones, right? It's been so long I don't remember, haha.

EDIT: Sideloaded, works fine.

Now, do you disable the stock messaging app?

AFAIK, you should have no problem even if you are not rooted.

EDIT: I didn't have to - it seems like Hangouts took care of that for me or at least killed notifications.

FYI - MMS on the new Hangouts doesn't seme to work, eek.

I use it for free chatting. Even if I wipe my phone between ROM installs, I still have all my Hangout convos backed up with Google unlike the separate backup with texts. I really like it, give it more of a shot! :)

I forget who was asking me about G2 Audio - sorry, but I tested it this morning since I drove into work.

Left the house, put Spotify on and streamed music all the way to Starbucks. Shut off the car, Spotify automatically paused & grabbed my coffee. Got back into the car, G2 automatically paired with my radio and I pressed play on the radio and Spotify picked up right where it left off.

T'was me. Weird. My N7 does that but I have to resync my G2.

Eh. My N7 is my music player anyways, I don't listen to radio and Pandora an the like annoy me. I was only using my G2 because I didn't have a new CD mount for the N7 - the old mount couldn't hold the new one.

The new mount arrived late last week and all is right again :)

I am interested to know how well it suits your task. Remember its a 4:3 aspect ratio! and good luck getting one tomorrow

Nabbed one this morning at Best Buy during my off-work "appointment" (If my job ever starts asking for doctors' notes, I'm screwed). Actually 2, one for me and one for the wife.

My goodness, it's like a freaking breath of fresh air. No lags. Perfect, and I mean PERFECT, pdf viewing/annotation.

I love Android's ability to tinker and customize, but honestly, the iPad is just a huge step ahead of everyone else at this point. I actually prefer the 4:3 aspect ratio; it's easier for me to read. The 16:9 is nicer for videos, but honestly I watch all my videos on my Note 3.

Dammit, Samsung, why tease me with the S-Pen and then give me the lag?

Ugh.

And the aluminum really is nicer than the plastic, I have to admit.

So my conclusion, in my own very biased but heavily-tried-and-true point of view, is that the Note 3 is the best phone out there; blows the iPhone out of the water. But as far as tablets are concerned, there is just no contest.

(Steven purchases Han a one-way ticket to Apple Forums. :p ...then runs.)

Which iPad? The Air?

Yes. In reality, I think all the gushing reviews are over the top. It's not very unlike the iPad 4, in my opinion. The 4 was already fast, is capable of doing iOS 7, and had no lag, at least not for me.

But I figured since the Air is capable of running 64-bit apps now, might as well get it in order to be "future proofed" to a degree.

The one thing I can't stand is the lack of a fingerprint sensor. It's pretty useful for unlocking and paying for apps without having to type in your code or iTunes password all the time, and they have no good response when asked why they didn't include it.

But it's obvious that they did the same thing they've always done: hold back features for the next product even though you can do it now, in order for your little iSheep to come mewing with their fists full of cash next year.

Makes me sick. The iPad fits my needs more than any other tablet, but I don't have to feel good about it!

Underscores my earlier comment - none of these suppliers are our friends.

How do you annotate a contract in PDF format? With a pen or your finger?

And how "fine" can your notes be? I like to insert carets and interlineate in the margin. Or strike through letters or words. Does the digitizer resolution support that, or is it like (as some say) writing with a crayon?
