Root [MetroPCS & T-Mobile] New system update

4.1.2 software improvements, and some minor ui changes. For example the 4g LTE icon is smaller. But one thing I noticed is I am getting a really strong signal surprisingly in my house o.o. battery is more lasting. Seems to run fine but why a crappy update o.O?
 
Has anyone with root access installed this update?
I've saved the update.zip from the cache. Will the stock recovery allow a manual update?
 
I tried installing this update and it soft bricked my phone. I did have CWM recovery installed (not the lte2 2nd init recovery), that might be the reason, cause the update needs to boot into factory recovery to install. So I spent an hour restoring my phone back to factory. So if you have PG's CWM recovery flashed, might not wanna do the update.

I did however find a way to disable the OTA via the hidden menu.
This is for MetroPcs only!

1. With a root browser, go to the /cache dir and delete the update zip.
2. Open the phone dialer and type 3845#*659#, this will open the hidden menu.
3. Now go to Wi-Fi Setting-LG > OTA Setting and press disable.

This should disable the OTA updates

Has metro sent out an OTA?
 
Well, I got an update notification sometime this afternoon, Im on Metro. Waited till I got home to install it, just in case something went wrong, well it did. Good thing I waited.

Look closely at your 4g LTE indicator its quite different instead of showing just LTE it changes to 4g LTE and not just 4g or LTE I've notice a lot of improvements with this update I just wish we had 4.2 or 4.3 but I guess that's my luck for not getting a more higher end phone
 
I just did the Metros OTA update with my phone being rooted and with LTE2/l1m Recovery installed and then update did it's thing without a hitch. The phone reboot twice and then running right back to normal.

I haven't noticed any differences yet, so I can't say for sure that the update did in fact happen, but I know that it isn't bugging me to update anymore. I still have root and recovery. All the stock apps that I removed through TB didn't come back. I'd say it was quite successful.
 
Any way to shut down the reminder that keeps popping up on my phone? I am rooted but don't know what process to freeze
 
I have a T-Mobile f3 that's rooted. When I tried to update, the phone rebooted and appeared to install something. When I checked the version nothing had changed. It was still running the a version and not the b version. In addition, i m still getting notified to update. The phone also did not lose root.

Coming from the s2 aka epic 4g touch when you have root enabled and you ota it won't allow android to update. I don't know if this is a android bug or if its normal. All I know is if you try to update and you are rooted it won't happen. Then again I only owned Samsung phones not lgs. But if you did update look at your 4g/lte indicator it would show one or the other. Not both of them at the same time. The older version of the software ether showed LTE or 4g, after the update it shows both that's how I know that I've been updated
 
If you unrooted before update and applied update will a factory reset put it back to ms65910a instead of the b update?Then apply motochopper like before and ignore update in the future.Thanks and I know nothing except what was taught on these forums so if questions lame I apologize.

 
Factory reset merely puts it back to stock as in it wipes data and that's pretty much it, lol. You can use the unbrick guide to return to the previous software version I believe.
 
So I woke up this morning and it said there's was an update. So I did the update and now the root is gone :-( I'm on Metro by the way.

Have you tried the cydia impactor root method mentioned in this post?

I'm rooted on MetroPCS also, waiting for a consensus on whether to go ahead without loosing root. So far 1 person reported soft-brick (& had to restore), but he had CWM recovery instead of stock. Another person reported success with root kept, and another person reported loosing root. Anyone else tried the update?
 
Haven't done that yet. Another thing I was look for the metro WiFi app and its gone. now it's mobile hotspot and when you turn it on it says" you need to upgrade. you can do so by going to t-mobile.com..." and I thought" wait what?! What happened to metro!?"

That's probably because T-Mobile and MetroPCS merged, so they're consolidating apps.

I did a text dump of all the files from the /cache/<OTA>.zip file, the 111 MB update seems pretty extensive, from kernel, to apps, frameworks, radio, & other binary drivers.
