Root [MetroPCS & T-Mobile] New system update

I was able to root. Btw what is custom recovery?

- Awesome to hear afroag, simple eh?

- I just got here to the F3 forums so I can't help you there yet, maybe someone else can point you into the right direction.

- The F3 needs some love. I may start putting together current information for the FAQ since Saferoot seems to be the best working solution for ROOT even tho it can be found else where.

- The storage shortage on this device is a pain but there is a fix for that too.

Yeah thanks for the link! I had given up on this phone, about to order an S3 to flash to MetroPCS.

You mentioned a fix for the short internal storage?

Finally went ahead with the update yesterday, used the LG Support tool rather than OTA. Had to re-root, used Saferoot which took about a minute.
Pre-update, I uninstalled Link2SD and unfroze all the apps I had frozen. Not sure if all that was necessary with the LG update but figured it was a good idea. Also pulled the SD card.
So far so good, I'll see how signal and battery life compare going forward although I really wasn't having any issues with either one.
Only real downside I've seen was that the update installed Google Maps v7 which sucks. Restoring the old version (6.1) from Titanium didn't work so I had to find the apk someplace else and sideload it. But with that done, the phone is pretty much unchanged.

Hey everyone, I'm new here.

I've been unable to complete the OTA update as well. I had my phone rooted with motochopper and installed link2sd (a day or two before the OTA update...) I constantly had a failed update and tried factory resets several times and removing root to no avail. I took the advice from this thread and viewed the log in the cache. It says "assert failed: apply_patch_check('/system/app/Magazines.apk"

I removed several unwanted apps including Google Magazines, which is no longer available. I found an apk of Google Magazines to install but still had no luck (it doesn't add the apk in this directory). Excuse me of my ignorance since this is all new to me. Any advice? I would be happy if I can just return my phone to factory and update to the "b" software revision.

The only changes I made were: installing motochopper, deleting several apps (Google Magazines, Twitter, etc.) that I did not need, and using link2sd. I have since factory reset and rooted with Motochopper again so I could view the cache log.

Please Help!! I'm completely lost here.

Should just reset to completely stock version by connecting to PC & Using LG Mobile Support Tool.

I already tried unrooting (replaced super user with supersu and clicked unroot) and factory reset.

When I use the mobile support tool it hangs on the download icon and elapsed time never makes it post 15 seconds. Should i try to re-install the mobile support tool? Lots of people seem to be having issues with it freezing.

The update is failing because I uninstalled some stock apk files. Never thought to back them up beforehand. Replaced the Magazines apk with one from online but the cache file says it doesn't match.

I'll check out the unbrick link when i have time.

Okay so o rooted. T mobile Lg optimus f3.. now i scroll thru the systems. Etc etc and found the update that i never used... my question outs can i use the update to tweak and edit. Because i cannot download nor find the kdz file for that dreary day when my phone bricks up.. can anyone help me

Does anyone else's screen flicker when it is at a dim brightness (0-20%). It is very faint but noticeable like a an old fluorescent light bulb. Not sure if this started happening in the latest update or am I jist noticing it more now, or maybe it is just something with my phone.

My screen flickers as well. Like you said, it is very faint. I have yet to update though due to deleting system apps.

I followed the "unbrick guide..." link you posted last week and it looks like it will fix my phone if I can get the kdz file. The link is dead for the tmo P659 kdz. Can anyone direct me or upload a kdz stock image? I posted this question in that forum but have yet to get any results. I was reading on other forums and it seems like LG has been changing their servers/security so unique links are necessary.

I found a link that you can type in your IMEI and it is supposed to give you the download link but it comes out blank for me.

I wish LG's support tool would work like it is supposed to and let me do a restoration (log shows an error every time but the software just hangs)

Does anyone know if the "b" software will ever make it to the support tool, assuming it will even work?

In the last few pages of the unlock guide link. The LG Mobile Support PC app should auto download the full kdz file from LG once it detects the phone connected. Or try it on a different computer.

The kdz file in the Unbrick Guide stops at 164 MB and has been confirmed by other users. No one has uploaded an alternate download.

The LG support tool generates errors on both computers I own (Win 7 x64 and Win 8 x64). The link I posted above generates a blank for strURL (the download link). The log from the Support Tool is below:

Just to make sure all steps are done, did you go to the LG support tool's Options -> Upgrade Recovery? The log mentions CDMA but that doesnt make sense for TMobile, so the phone could be seriously messed up, and need to be returned.

I noticed the CDMA too and was suspicious. I also noticed when i connect the device it displays P659BKGO (or something similar to that). It is a tmo branded retail kit i bought on Amazon (New in retail packaging). When i googled the model no with the extra digits all the hits pointed to Target's new MVNO (I think it is named Brightspot or something like that). Anyone else notice anything like this?
