Root [MetroPCS & T-Mobile] New system update

Can someone with the update please try Cydia Impactor and/or Kingo to see if those root methods work?
If you look at my last post confirmed Cydia Impactor roots fine on metro lg f3 after it roots which is under a minute install supersu don't even need to restart phone install apk like instructed haven't received an update since and even checked for updates and phone says its up to date

My update failed. I checked /cache/recovery/last_log. The relevant section seems to be this:

I'm using Link2SD. I've uninstalled system apps with Titanium. I've undone both the linking and the uninstalling, but still am getting this error. Any ideas?

It seems like some tool called "StickMount" may change debuggerd, but I'm not using StickMount. Does anything else alter debuggerd? Does anyone want to post the proper stock version of debuggerd for me?

Thanks!

UPDATE:
Figured it out. Link2SD does alter debuggerd, and it saves the original as debuggerd.bin. I swapped the original back in and the update worked.

Can someone post a system dump or .apk + .odex files from /system/app from before the update? I think a lot of us with modified ROMs can use it to restore to stock before applying the OTA.

According to /cache/recovery/last_log, I'm failing specifically on the /system/app/ChromeWithBrowser.apk & .odex file, but not sure if once it gets past this it'll fail on another app.

UPDATE: I went with the PC LG Support Tools update, ended up having to download the bloated 650 MB file directly. Restored the bloatware, so had to trim it down again, but kept my personal apps & settings. Kingo root worked afterwards too.

OK sure. Haven't noticed anything yet except for the 4G LTE icon being different. Hopefully the battery/4G improvements are real.

I WAS able to get root back using Kingo. Tried Impactor first but that failed. Kingo seemed shady (the download took forever) but when it was finally installed it took maybe 2 minutes... easy.

As far as battery and 4g goes they are ten times better. When ever I took the bus I always end up in 2g mode going through a certain area in my hometown but now I don't have any dead zones expect for the LTE part I still get 4g but no more 2g. My battery is great one full charge will last me all day of playing music and all night this is coming from 4:30am and then to roughly 12 when I sleep. That's not bad

I can agree the battery does appear improved. Haven't been able to verify improved 4g yet but I haven't used 4g all weekend.

I have link2sd installed and checked. My debuggerd was also renamed. I contacted the author of link2sd. He confirmed that the application does this and will look into fixing the uninstall. In the meantime, he recommended renaming using the backup file as you have done.

I tried Impactor with a t-mobile F3 updated to the "b" firmware. It fails to root the device.

Root Android phone, flash custom ROM and manage your Android devices, Rooting Freeware Download - Kingo

DO NOT use kingo. According to XDA this is malware. See

Your instincts are good. XDA Dev reports that kingo is malware. See

It may have been corrupted at one point in the past (according to that xda thread), but if you download it from download.com & their official website (kingoapp.com), latest version (1.1.5+) should be fine (vRoot is the other one mentioned and should be suspicious still). Since it works for rooting latest F3 when motochopper doesn't, so not exactly a scam either.

Kingo's response to the accusations:

Yes, that is their explanation but links to kingo are still banned on XDA. Developers with more knowledge than me are still investigating but right now the jury is still out.

Hello Gents,

I have been following this thread for a few days now waiting to see what I should do. I had previously mottochoppered my phone to get root and that worked great. After reading everything...

I went to the LG website and download the restore tool for my metro LG Optimus F3

After I ran the support tool and updated my phone I was surprised my phone was NOT wiped clean. I was expecting it. I of course lost root.

I downloaded the controversial Kingo root program and had no issues rooting my phone again with it.

Time will tell if the update was any good or not. I already had pretty sweet battery life I thought; compared to the Nexus S I upgraded from.

Kingo root works. The question is what else does it do to your phone. Xda devs are still investigating.

I found a suspicious folder when cleaning up the install. 'Digua' was its name I believe. Suspicious because that's apparently the name of a spider? Idk. Will look into it (i deleted the folder and am monitoring services).

My F3 is factory stock, unrooted. I bought it for the 4G LTE feature. However, unless I was within 100 yards of a T-Mobile tower my F3 would drop from LTE to HSPA. Or, I would have just one bar of signal strength on LTE which would cause the battery to run hot and drain rapidly.

After the OTA update I saw a new 4G LTE icon and a dramatic increase in signal strength. In places where I had been bounced off LTE down to HSPA, I now have one or two bars of LTE signal. In places where I consistently had one or two bars of LTE, I now have three or four bars.

I ran Speed Test at different locations which confirmed an improvement. In places where my speeds had been 3mbps to 5mbps, my speeds are now 6mbps to 10mbps...Netflix speeds anywhere in town.

Last, battery life has greatly improved. If I avoid Netflix I can go 48 hours on a charge. Even on a heavy Netflix day I can get 16 hours in a charge.

I'm on the MetroPCS F3. I rooted using motochopper on OSX 10.8.4 when the phone was still on S/W v.MS65910a. I installed the OTA update to MS65910b last week and am still rooted. no noticeable difference in performance. I woke up this morning to another update alert. I'm waiting to see how it works out for others before proceeding. I live in the bay area fyi, though i don't think that matters much in terms of when you receive OTA updates.

Now that there are 2 updates floating out there released so closely together it would be helpful for people to specify phone version and update version.

only info I could find about the new (c) update: LG Help: Product Support and Troubleshooting | LG USA

thoughts?

I updated. My wife's n daughter F3 (Mpcs)...
Still rooted..
Still debloated.
No changes in build.prop
Either tree.. files same, sh scripts for fuseSd same
Tethering fine.
Better reception
Better battery life.
Etc.etc.etc....

You must've gotten the MS65910b update really late, and then the most recent 10c came out last week, so got updated again. Most people had the 10b for a while before the recent 10c update.

So... In the interest of clarity.

I am on tmo f3. Under the original software I rooted (motpchopper) installed cwm (lte 2nd init), removed bloat (titanium backup), used link2sd and app2sd extensively.

The ----b update failed. When I decided I want it, I went to the stock recovery, and did a factory reset. That bricked my phone. Found the kdz file, and flashed it to the phone. Updated to the ----b software and rooted using saferoot. I have frozen many apps, but have not removed any system apps. I also am back to using link2sd and app2sd.

Battery seems much improved, it seems the already slim use at idle (CCA 2% in 3 hours) was cut even further. Signal strength has improved (supposedly because metro PCs towers and tmo towers are now both providing signal).

That is my saga.

I was told from an insight engr. That both of software updates are for connectivity purposes.. F3 as F6 were made with the capabilities of GSM/WCDMA .. n few other devices from both companies. so gsm + wcdma auto prl scripts, radios needed. Improvements. Due to connections failures complaints..!!! Software updates were done @ their end so we were getting ours now. So enay other info i get. I wll post.

Yeah I need help with this one guys. I am on MetroPCS

I like this phone but the constant space management is driving me nuts. I "rooted" my phone with motochopper like 3 times already but I still get the "your external memory is emulated" message from Link2SD.

However I am trying to run this update but it's clearly not working. For those that got it to work, did you find/do a factory ROM to the phone. If so does this completely wipe your phone or is it just like rooting where nothing is cleared.

The OTA patch update checks if any system files are changed (Someone posted older Link2SD made a backup copy of a system file, which fails the check), but LG Mobile Support tool does not and flashes the complete updated rom. Both do NOT wipe your user data by default.

Sorry I don't understand what you are trying to say. Are you saying the LG Mobile tool will restore the stock OS without wiping all your stuff?
