Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Most people aren't techies. They don't know a moth from a snapdragon. They respond to marketing and hype. While everyone has valid points about the EVO and the Incredible, the truth remains that the two are of no comparison if for the simple fact that one is available for purchase and the other is not. The only people holding out for the EVO, which from a consumer stand point doesn't exists, are techies. When both are on an even keel than we have a debate but as of now the Incredible wins for no other reason than you can go to the store and buy it. EVO is vaporware to consumers.

i'm assuming this is why Hesse was so confident in saying the EVO would have flash 10.1 out of the box. adobe probably assured them it'd be ready to roll by EVO release, and make EVO the first android phone (phone in general?) with full flash support. fantastic :). can't wait for the NY EVO event, Google I/O, etc. just a few weeks away!

This may be pure speculation but according to Adobe Flash 10.1 for Android general release available in June: and Posted by Kevin Lynch on his blog here: Moving Forward (Adobe Featured Blogs)a full 10.1 version of flash has an expected June release date... could this coincide with our hoped EVO release date.... fingers crossed.

I'm starting to wish I never heard of the EVO until right before it was going to be released! This wait is a lot harder than it was with the Pre because there was so much information to be had about it ahead of time. That said, I WILL wait because the EVO is bad ass! I just hope the wait goes quickly!

Besides that, the phone hasn't been announced to the general public yet. That will be May 12th. The release date should also be announced that day.

Everyone is getting antsy, including me, but a lot of our questions should be answered on the 12th and that isn't that far away.

I think you're on to something, JMD.

I have to ask a question, what do you mean not announced to the general public? because they aren't airing commercials yet? the phone was "announced" at CTIA, their have been web ads up since the day it was announced and every media site that covers cell phones has written about it and has hands on impressions and video, we have official specs listed and we also have had CNN do a story including the phone, it was announced at CTIA. Is it being fully marketed yet? no because it's not close enough to launch but I don't understand the notion some have that the phone hasn't been announced yet.

...Couldnt care less... :p

Couldn't* :p

Specs wise, this phone will win the Pepsi challenge any day vs the competition. However there is one thing a lot of people are overlooking, and I've seen numerous complaints about this on the Incredible forums, that the battery life is going to really be an issue for most users.

For those who want to spend the extra cash and buy the extended battery. Or buy an extra regular battery or w/e. But for the average consumer, they don't want the hastle of switching batteries and carrying around an extra, or having an extended battery make the phone bigger.

Personally, I have no issue. I keep a usb cable at work to charge my phone. One at home. Maybe I'll get one for my car. But for people who don't work around a computer all day might get annoyed that their phone battery only lasts 10 hours with regular usage.

Sure you can turn off features, disable the GPS, dim the backlight, but you're sorta killing the EVO experience..

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

It CAN'T be worse than the Pre. I barely get a day in with my Pre, sometimes it doesn't even last all day. I'm not worried at all.

Release date, ????.
June 13th 2010 :D.

You're saying 12 days is an eternity?

I've had my annual upgrade through S|P available since last June...been holding out to get something that I really wanted. Just wasn't enthralled with the Pre. Was about to bite on the Hero because I was getting frustrated with my Instinct, but put that aside once I read about the EVO here (Supersonic, at that time).

So, for me personally...hype or no hype...this phone is worth the wait. I'm an Android virgin, and I haven't seen anything even close to making me consider changing my mind about making my first Android phone the EVO.

Just my opinion, but again, this phone is worth the wait.

I think it's fair to say that the longer the wait the more likely people are going to deviate from the path to the EVO. This is a nation of fast food and impulse buys. People don't like waiting, and since we're surrounded by advertising-rich media, it's easy to get distracted. The general public hasn't the slightest clue what the EVO is or that it even exists. Meanwhile they're being bombarded by ads for the HD2 etc. I'm willing to bet a lot more of them would be willing to stick around if they also saw an ad for the EVO, or at the very least put in a few minutes to research, possible landing here and learning the truth.

Even tech-savvy folk like ourselves have to deal with tempting alternatives every day. Having a light at the end of the tunnel for the product we would PREFER would make it a lot easier to resist. Hell, at this point I'm even reconsidering leaving AT&T, and that says A LOT.

Yeah but if I did that, I would have plopped $200 on the new blackberry bold coming out at the end of May and burned my upgrade.

As long as it can last a full day, I'll be fine. The Touch Pro dies on me way too fast, so hopefully it'll be better (but from discussions I've seen elsewhere and had with other members of the forum, it seems like it'll be about the same).

The one thing that would make me REALLY comfortable with the battery life is if the solar keychain chargers come out soon! I posted a link to a website that was already pre-selling that solar charger for the EVO 4G, but wasn't sure how reliable the website was.

Patience is something of rarity in this generation billsmed lol......Most, especially tech'ers want SPEED SPEED and more SPEED, and things they want right away.

So the key is waiting for the EVO 4G(More SPEED). 12 days to me isnt so bad.

And to the other points, I think alot of people forget that the common smartphone consumers are not on tech forums, or anything of the sorts.

Hey Dex - must have missed that post. Can you re-post the link please?

TIA!

Well, sure. Most techies or people like us hanging out in a phone forum knew about CTIA. I've been following news on the EVO (Supersonic) since December or January, but ask anyone on the street if they're heard about the EVO 4G. I doubt you'll find very many that have, but the general public is going to start hearing about the phone soon. The only reason I brought that up was in response to people saying Sprint screwed up by not releasing the phone soon after it was announced at CTIA. Are you kidding? Those like us in this forum only represent a small cross section of potential smartphone buyers. So, when Sprint starts their media blitz on May 12th, a lot of people will aware of the phone and it will be released soon after. That's all I meant.

eieio, when you say "about the 2 minute mark and look in the left hand corner of the EVO screen". What exactly are we supposed to see? Also, just beyond the 2 minute mark, the person demonstrating the phone said it had Flash on it, but obviously, it's not version 10.1. I would assume that can be updated with an OTA update in June.

In your quote from LatinP, he said Froyo would not come as an OTA update. If that's true, how will be get that update?

In my quote Bill I said Froyo wouldn't be delivered as an ota update that's because Froyo should pave the way to ota updates but I believe Froyo will be delivered the same way 2.1 was a full blown OS update. And from that point on you should see alot more ota updates.

The Droid and N1 both receive updates OTA... I know the Droid got 2.1 via OTA, I would assume Evo will as well..

And not arguing with you at all, I know updates come multiple ways, but I would assume FroYo will come to us via OTA.

I don't know if this has been discussed before, I searched the thread but could find nothing on it.

Should it be possible to use a Bluetooth headset for voice dialing? I read a review of the Incredible on Amazon and the reviewers were complaining that it's not possible to do that. Would that be an Android issue and is it likely to be an issue for the EVO? Should an app be available that would make it work?

I'm getting an EVO on day one anyway, though it would be nice to be able to continue calling via bluetooth voice dialing like I do now.

Hey Norril -

Are you referring to this? This is the same company as the invisible shield and lets you design your own skin on the same type of protective material - about 20 bucks or so:

ZAGG | ZAGGskins | Cases, Screen Protectors, Covers, Shields, Skins, Invisible Shield

This company actually takes your device and paints it with their own proprietary powder coating paint method - the super expensive one:

ColorWare

Hope this helps

ColorWare, yes! Thanks, I was just trying to find your earlier post for TS. That ColorWare looks sweet.

I am assuming that one has to take the phone in for them to do that, or send it to them. Oh heck nooo, i waited this long for the EVO and I am not about to send it away for any work done no matter how nice looking it may be. lol Although it is rather tempting.

TS out (getting the paintbrushes)

If you can't wait for a white on theres always - ColorWare
