VZW Nexus Please!!!
I figure I'll last a month or two before I can't live without a root feature (like free hotspot). But by then, I'll be tired of the UI and want a custom ROM I'm sure.
I'm living the LG experience at the moment and figure I have more time to enjoy the new phone versus constantly looking at TWRP in Quad HD haha!

I routed for the sole reason of having wifi tethering. FoxFi/PDAnet does not work on the G3, so I routed and I'm now happily using WiFi Tether Router.
I don't care for custom roms or changing UI. I'm OK with stock UI. I'm more for getting actual useful use out of it rather than for looks.

Do you have Verizon Wireless? If you have a More Everything plan, you can use hotspot without any additional fee.

Thanks. But yeah, I knew that. I'm not on the more everything plan cause it would make my bill go up by $40 per month roughly. We will probably switch to it when my son gets a phone in another 2 years cause then it will be the same or maybe a little cheaper.
Right now, my wife and I both have 6GB plans for giving up our unlimited data when we upgraded (me for the G3, her for the Moto X last year).

We were able to keep our unlimited. When we got the S3 2 years ago, we opened up 2 new lines (dummy line) and paid $10 per line. Beats paying full price for the phone. Our primary unlimited lines was on a month to month. I didn't want to touch those lines for the fear or losing unlimited. So we waited until the dummy lines were eligible for upgrade. I went to a corporate VZ store told them I want to upgrade the dummy lines, activate it on the dummy lines and than take them off only to transfer to my primary and put the dummy phones back onto my account.
I was there for about 2 hours but it worked. Primary is still under month to month with unlimited data for both me and my wife and dummy lines are not eligible for upgrade until 2016

That's a good way to do it for sure. I never go over 5 gigs but it was almost a principal thing...I know we are going to a more everything type of plan in two years so I wasn't too worried about giving it up now. I know verizon will force everyone out eventually LOL!
I am with you. I tried to root my phone using IORoot. I was having trouble. Finally I thought I had it and then my phone stopped on a screen where I was suppose to sideload a file. I had no idea what to do. I posted my problem with no response for over an hour. Finally I posted I was going to pull my battery and hope for the best. I figured I just bricked my brand new LG G3. Someone posted and told my I could pull my battery and I would be fine that I hadn't changed anything on my phone yet. Then he told me I needed to read about sideloading that it was basic to android. I wish he would of offered more help. In the end I just pulled my battery and everything was ok. I haven't tried again.

No risk with Towelroot. It's so easy!
On Verizon. According to the thread, that method doesn't work.

I rooted on my VZ G3 with ioroot. Can't get any simplier. The instructions and step by step is all over the web.

I keep telling noobs to stay away from the stuff if they are afraid.
We all were noobs at some point.
Except I always knew I was responsible for what I did and willing to take the loss.
I think this last line is the thing for me. I know I'm responsible. No matter how people hold my hand thru the process, I know that it's still my doing. Even in the life of the phone, I know there's a chance I could mistakenly do something to brick the phone. And as a recent college graduate with debt, bills to pay, and no full-time job (yet!), I'm not sure I'm willing to go and take that risk.

Still and always will be sage advice. Only looking for those who are willing to accept the risks associated with rooting. In the case of the G3, there's not much risk in the root procedure, it's more what one could do after having root that would be the greater concern. But, that's why there's LG Flash Tools, download mode and stock tots/dlls.

I once had my brand new shiny expensive tablet bricked because I did the wrong thing. However, I did ask for help. There was a guy willing to help me, he connected to my PC/tablet and it was fixed in a matter of hours.
Bottom line: you will never learn unless you take the risk.
It is a free country, you make your own decisions, you live with them.
I root automatically. I really like LBE Security Master, ad blocking and permission control of apps, and Titanium Backup for freezing "added value" bloatware that gets shoveled in. (if you get TiBU to freeze things, ALWAYS hit the "Deselect all" button first thing when you get to the screen to select apps -- at least on my install it has all apps selected when I get to that screen, not something you want to do)
I've been a software developer for 25+ years (started with assembler, so I've been down to the metal), and I was still worried the first time I went through rooting with my Droid Eris.
I'll root my G3 in the next day or so with the IOroot as well. Need the tethering for a long road trip. Don't think I'll dive into ROM land for some time. Wasn't happy with what we could do in the Spectrum and will wait out some of the growing pains on this one,

I tried to root my lucid so I could save apps to my sd card. After about six hours I still couldn't get the USB drivers to work. So I gave up and ordered a G3 with 32gb and called it a day. XD

I've had 3 T-Mobile G1's, a Samsung Behold II, a Nexus 1, a LG G2X, a HTC Sensation, a Samsung S-II, a Nexus 4, a Note II, a Note 3 and a LG G3 and they were all rooted within the first week with the exception of the G1 - it took a bit longer. It's getting really hard to hard brick a phone now days, more than likely you'll end up with a soft brick which is fixable.

This is the first phone I've ever rooted. Wanted to Root my s3, but was too scared at the time. Glad I was able to do it to this phone but I've only used basic apps like greenify. I have a Verizon phone with a locked bootloader and everything I read on the more fun apps says we need to wait for a custom recovery to be available to be safe :/
