Well if after you factory reset the phone and you still get no response from parts of the screen then that's a hardware problem. I'm pretty sure it is so you're probably screwed unless your friend is gonna buy another digitizer to replace the broken one.
 
Wanted to let you know that I have successfully used the screen recording feature of KitKat. I used the app scr pro and other than lag it works great
 
I am having problems with my service. It says selected network unavailable and when i search for another network and click on it it says unable to connect to network. Help???

thanks kage, im a noob first timer for rom flashing or install, anyways. I got CM11 installed, I can make phone calls and wifi works although network status says disconnected. That freaked me out a bit, so far so good, gonna try youtube, I heard that was buggy. Sweet!! Youtube works mmmk now for an sms...yup sms is successful. Aww no more double tap home button for s voice :( OH WOW! Tethering works! HA! They would charge for that normally!! oh wow this is so cool i can customize my icons and everything, would really like a skull icon for the battery level :)

Well you can't fully customize the status bar icons. Just a circle or bar battery. For anything else you'd have to see how to do it.
 
I found a weird bug with CM11, I don't know if it was reported before or not. But when I turned on my phone after it was finished charging, it said turning on wifi, but it would not turn on and reported I have no service. Rebooting the first time fixed the problem, then it said I had no service, but wifi was working, then for some reason, it started showing the boot screen, rebooting the second time fixed the wifi problem, but showed the boot screen again, so I rebooted for the third time, and it has been okay since.
 
I did a factory reset, wipe dalvik cache, and cache before flashing, I had no problems with CM11. The problem started after I turned on my phone today when the battery was charged.

Those just sound like the normal data and wifi issues cm11 has. It usually takes 2 or 3 reboots when that happens for it to fix itself.
