Help android duplicate icons

I have s6 edge, how do u make icons only appear on main page and not twice on both the main page and 'apps' drawer.

You can remove the icons from the main page by long-pressing an icon and dragging it to the red X or trashcan icon that will appear on your screen (you might also get a "X Remove" option to appear above the icon as yet another option).

It will still be in your app drawer, though--those won't go away unless you actually uninstall them.

Hope that helps!

Think of it as similar to Windows Start Menu. Even if you have the app on the desktop, you stilk have them in the start menu. Plus the ones on the homescreen are just shortcuts. Not the actual apps themselves.

Hi rubnuts, welcome to Android Forums.

Are you referring specifically to when you're downloading apps from Playstore?

If so there is an 'Add icon to homescreen' tick box in Playstore - Settings. I think it is on by default, I've certainly set mine to off.

The app icon then just goes into your app drawer and you can place it on whichever homescreen you want to in the normal way.

Just go to Playstore, tap the '3 bar' menu button top left and go into 'Settings'.

Hope this helps.

Windows is more flexible a stand alone application or executable can run from the desktop without ever hitting the start menu.

The point being made was that they're still there whether you open the Start Menu or not, similar to the app drawer in Android.

Unless you run the Windows .exe from a CLI you need to have a shortcut on the Windows desktop. Android's home screen icons are functionally similar.

A stand alone application in windows doesnt require any shortcuts for it to run, it can exist and run on the desktop or any other folder alone by itself. However, it sounds like that is not the case with android and that an app requires foremost for it to exist in the 'app drawer' before it can run.

I think you're reading too much into the 'think of it as Windows start menu' and 'desktop',actually thinking it does work like Windows.

The Android homescreen is nothing more than just a 'desktop' to put widgets and shortcuts to the most used apps for easy access. The app drawer is where the app launchers actually go to. Yes you are right that the app must exist in the app drawer always. But you have the choice to not appear in the homescreen.
