Actually you can read/write from Recovery to the system folder. I've successfully copied files to the SD Card, booted into Recovery and copied files from the SD Card to the system folder. I changed the boot animation and got rid of the boot sound and some other minor tweaks.
What methods did you take to change the boot animation and sound?

OK, I must be mistaken then because I don't recognize the file I deleted, which I never should have deleted. Just goes to show deleting system files can be dangerous, lol. Thanks for screen shots

You can do that with ROM Toolbox and other apps. But I like the toolbox because it's packed with cool things you can do with android
I use rom toolbox pro for my bootscreen and i use the root explorer to change my bootsound.mp3 all of wich you need full root to do. Which you need to use his script

Script works great. Running a nice minions boot animation with sound.
Is there any possibility of making this a flash able zip and trying to flash through recovery? (Just a thought)

(Able to change font. Is anyone else having problems with changing status bar icons?)

I would get exposed installer and xblast tools to change various status bar and other elements. Also there is an app called zipme to make flashable zips.

If I had two z987's I would be willing to try that, after all twrp for zmax works perfectly. But I don't think I want to risk turning my one z987 into a skipping stone haha

In order to get 100% to change status bar icons is to be deodex. I tried to get my phone deodex but my windows 10 is not liking my phone

Tried dual booting your machine with Ubuntu or win 7? If win 10 is not compatible. You can try a virtual machine.

I have been playing around with an app called apKTOOL. You can decompile apps and supposedly deodex your phone with it, anyone else worked with this?

im deodexed the frame work and priv-app folder but cant figure out how to flash it back in twrp cause if o put those files back on my phone will cause my phone to crash and go to a bootloop state . how do i make a flashable zip to use it in twrp
