Well, I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one. I have the same problem. Unfortunately, I don't have a solution. I can only say what I've tried (that hasn't worked):

1. I downloaded and installed the latest version of HTC Sync (2.0.33)--the app doesn't recognize the phone (and vice versa).

2. I attempted to manually install the driver from above--no joy.

3. I downloaded the adb drivers and tried to manually install them--same result.

4. Used usbdeview to attempt to remove spurious drivers (including all mass storage drivers) and repeated steps 2 & 3--no help

5. I tried connecting to two other windows machines (one running Vista, the other running XP) with essentially the same results (Windows reports that the unknown device cannot be installed). I also tried connecting to a linux machine that didn't recognize the device.

6. Scoured the web and posted to this forum looking for more folks with the same problem (or better yet a solution). So far, you're my only comrade.

At this point, I'm fairly convinced that I have a hardware problem. That said, it worked just fine before the upgrade to 2.1. As far as I can tell, everything else is working just fine--but I sure would like to be able to tether again...

Don't know if this has been covered yet, I don't remember seeing it on here....I've only had two problems with v3 so far:

1. getting a black screen for at least 5 sec when the phone rings where I can do nothing (which was asked about previously/not sure if it was in this forum or not) and...

2. my messaging app force closes, alot.

So far, thats all I have found wrong with v3.

I am having issues AGAIN! with no sound no mic....reboot to be able to call some one!!!! Really TICKING ME OFF MAN!!!!! What I do like is being able to see pics in gmail!

If anyone is having an issue with the leak, just call customer service and play innocent about receiving a notification about being a beta testers, don't say you got a txt msg but rather a notifiction and it was done over the air, they will indeed send you a replacement phone under warrenty. new phone is coming in two days can't wait to root!!!

That's actually a well-known tactic called "fraud." Besides being both illegal and unethical, it's often responsible for driving up costs and ruining the opportunity to get things taken care of legitimately for everyone else.

I know some people have said they're seeing improved battery life (and VZW lists this in the release notes) and others are seeing poor performance... I have to say, battery life for me SUCKS. I've charged it overnight multiple times and by 3pm it's near dead. My usage is not anywhere higher than normal either, in fact, I'm browsing the internet less than I used to, so just text messaging and some phone calls.

That's nasty stuff to have happen, Candroid. Are you on one of the leaks?

If not I'd be taking the device back.

LOL! I finally made the jump last night and updated my phone. Works great, but I should have been more patient by one day to hear the good news :)

After all the speculation, it will be interesting to see if the OTA comes to the leaked devices.

Agreed. After all this time and forum beta testing, you would expect them to have it right.
This is just my opinion on some beta "testers", but it seems to me that too many so-called "testers" are afraid to point out too many issues or bugs that they may run across for fear that they'll be removed or excluded from future beta tests. :(

But it's their job to find things that are broken. They shouldn't expect to be punished for it. The more, the better.

While that is true. Some testers are afraid of looking like they being too picky and if the company they are testing for thinks that way, they get cut from future programs.

Think about it this way, although not the best analogy, some health departments will actually suspend/fire inspectors for failing some establishments. The reason? Some agencies believe that if you are failing someone, then you didn't do your job properly to prevent the poor marks.

Well I hate to sound like a negative ned...but just because they announced it doesn't mean its a few days away. Take the Motorola Droid update...they announced it and almost a month later it finally came out.

Don't worry, you will be able to update to the latest version just fine.

I suspect you've got something keeping your phone awake 100%. When that happens, the battery lasts about 8 hours. Have you checked your battery history to see if something's taking up all your "partial wake time"?

To get to battery history, open the phone and dial *#*#4636#*#*. No need to hit send. In the menu that pops up, select Battery History. First of all, see if it says "Running... 100%", and second, change the view to "Partial wake usage" and see if something like "Calendar" is using more than 30% partial wake time.

Oh, hi OTD. Nice tag! Congratulations!! :)

Hello everyone, new here.

I didn't think my first post would be a problematic question, but my problem is every time I download v3 and try to extract, I get "The Compressed (zipped) Folder is invalid or corrupted" message every single time. It's frustrating the hell out of me.

I've tried every link, multiple times. I don't even see the file in the mirror 1 link, but the other 2 links give me the same results. Can someone please PM me the unzipped file? I don't think I'm doing anything wrong, but you never know.

Thanks in advance!

You should not be extracting anything.

Have you read the http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/51383-upgrading-2-1-tutorial.html?

Wow! I can't believe I did that. I upgraded to v2 and for some reason I thought I unzipped before. Force of habit I guess. Sorry for the unnecessary post. Thanks OTD.

Just updated to 2.1 v 3 and everything is running smoothly.

Calls work great, the new search function kicks ass, and I can finally test 1.6+ apps on my actual phone!

Only real complaint is that "protected" market apps don't show up! Is there any way to get around that?

UPDATE: Searched and answered. Hopefully the "official" update will happen soon and I can start supporting all those devs with copy-protection.
