Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

And if you roam only, Sprint have the option to drop you (as in kick you out and you don't have to pay ETF) for consting them too much money. I think the limit is like 800 roaming minutes a month... It should be on the fine print on your contract. I will try to find it and post it...

There's a roaming limit on all carriers, but I don't have a summary of each.

When you think about it, the rules and restrictions the carriers have in place actually create some of the churn they supposedly don't like.

I don't think anything "unlimited" should be marketed unless it truly is "unlimited." But I also don't think they should be allowed to charge for roaming for any calls they they claim are in their coverage areas, roaming agreements or not. Buyers pay them for the coverage they list, not for the fineprint they can come up with.

This is one area that the feds simply allow to happen. I'd rather see them taking a stance on "unlimited" than the other half-baked consumer price protections they're claiming.

I called the customer service number and asked for retentions. I told the person I spoke with that I have been out of contract and waiting for the Evo to come out. Said I was not happy that I had to double my bill in order to get an Android device, but I had accepted it. However, the additional $10 upcharge was just ridiculous and a deal breaker. Told him that I could get faster (HSDPA+) performance on T-mobile and get a similar device in the HD2.

I said I was aware of the $10 service credit for renewing my contract and asked if they could offer it to me. The person said yep, no problem.

I want to confirm that I got this done WITHOUT A HITCH.

10 dollars off of my bill for the next 24 months effectively nullifies the EVO surcharge. WIN.

If you have a normal smartphone on any carrier your 3g cap is set in stone at 5gigs. After 5 gigs you are charged per kilobite.

With the evo, since you are paying the 10 bucks extra, you do not get a cap set. Suck up as much as you want.

For me I use every inch of my 5gigs and then some.

I really do think it is a smart move, considering I used 150megebytes this morning alone on my phone.

I agree, I think people are blowing this way out of proportion. Compared to verizon and AT&T, it still is an excellent deal.

Also, sprint will give discounts if you are in a credit union, or meet some other kinds of criteria.

I do not think people are blowing it out of proportion some people probably cannot afford the extra 10 a month. Depending on the situation they are in...

So what might seem affordable to you is not affordable to everybody...

With that being said I don't mind paying the 10 extra fee for the EVO ;)

If you go on Radio Shack's site under phones they don't mention the HTC EVO on the page at all. However, if you search for HTC, it shows a page with this picture:

So it looks like they either don't have their strategy in place 100% or they aren't revealing it. Here's the URL to the page that shows this graphic:

Looks like it'll be Best Buy for me. If pre-order at RS is on 5/31, that's only 4-5 days prior to the general release...LOL.

Here's the RS link if anybody wants to see it

That is correct. I'm currently on the ED plan $69.99 + $20 for BES = $90 and I get 25% off on a monthly basis. So if I go the Evo route which I plan to AND get the hotspot it will only be a total of $82.50 a month. Another reason to stick with Sprint. AND they made my eligibility date from 7/1 to 5/1.

Does anyone know or have paid Sprint for security deposit due to bad credit?

What's the minimum and maximum?

I googled this info and read on other forums that Sprint can charge as much as $500 for a deposit?

Anyone knows anything about this?

Thanks.

looks like it's BY 5/31 not on 5/31.... which would imply that pre-orders would start before 5/31. maybe the 21st as BlueScreen said yesterday, but honestly since it's on the website even hidden you could pre-order right now I would think....

I'm sorry, but if you can't afford an extra $10/month, you probably shouldn't be shelling out $200 for a new phone in the first place! And if you DO really want it, but think you can't afford $10/mo, eat at home twice a month instead of fast food, and you're set. Or skip your Starbucks a couple times a month. It's not that hard to come up with $10 bucks. Believe me, I don't even have a job, and I'm not worried about it!

Just had a chat with Sprint.com.

I was told they will NOT have a presale. But you can pre-register. WTF, I already got the damn e-mail.

If you want to buy early it looks like you have to go brick and mortar RS or BB.

Me thinks that too many people are going on sprint's website to complain about the $10 fee....it's currently down...fail.

Want them to seriously consider changing/dropping? Have one of the prominent media outlets reply Hesse's earlier comments about no additional charge and ask for a live response. CEOs don't like to be on record having to backtrack or explain things like this. And if he doesn't backtrack, then ask for the thinking and reasoning behind it so he can personally explain and sell this to perspective buyers.

That's all I think it would take.

THANK YOU! About time someone's said it. Everyone's looking for a free lunch these days it's ridiculous.

Sprint never has pre-sales I don't know why you even contacted them about it. This is a known fact.

I had pretty crappy credit when I started on Sprint 5 years ago and my deposit was $100.

Also keep in mind that that deposit is refunded back to you after a year of service.

Well, I just broke down and called my local Shack and the Shack Dweller told me that he had heard of the phone but they currently knew nothing about pre-orders and he said "I heard it's coming out sometime in mid to late June." I just thanked him and played dumb but sounds like at least around here they haven't brought their people up to speed yet. Your results may, of course, vary.:)

Its not all about not being able to afford for people but sprint is forcing 99% of the people to pay for something they will never use. Because the few lucky ones have 4G most of us don't and I have to pay for it. Its the principle of it. Besides better hardware which is all thanks to HTC the Evo really dosn't add anything extra over the Hero. I can't believe some people don't have a problem with this. You are giving sprin $10 extra for absolutelly nothing.

First time poster, long time thread lurker here

I'm currently on a legacy plan w/ Sprint (a F&C retention plan) where I pay 50$ a month for 1200 anytime min, free 7pm nt's, free unlimited data (aside from text) and I knuckle up and swallow the 20$ unlimited text charge as well at pay 10$ for an extra line for my parents that draw from my pool of minutes.. I have a 20% Corp Discount thanks to my college credit union (from 6 years ago lol)

I'm on a Touch Pro 2, (free after 4 insurance claims with the original TP and enough) and I'm currently out of contract.

I'm about to get my parents a burner (for The Wire fans on here) aka Pre-Paid phone because during the last 2 years on their line, they've used about 72 minutes... it doesn't make sense to get the family plan when switching to the EVO and having to ditch my legacy plan (it's no SERO by any means)

For those out of contract..and planning on getting the EVO, I don't see what there is to fuss about the 10$ 'remove cap' fee...I def use the PAM feature at airports and traveling (hotel broadband all depends on where you are, PAM always works and reliably...even at 3G , beats most hotel offereings)...it's saved my ass and let me work while my cable internet is down or whatever the case might be. Paid for itself many times, and I have to be cognizant of the 5gb cap (im one of those people...and no, not pr0n dl'ing lol)

Personally, I plan to use the Everything Plus Referral Program (using Russ Mcguire's cred's or my buddy who manages a sprint store cred's)...grab the 59.99 deal and the 10$ 'remove cap / EVO' fee doesn't hurt at all..

Maybe my plan is flawed and sorry for such a long intro post...but, I figured someone else out there might be in the same boat...

PS, I'm in the camp where if they advertise unlimited...change the TOS (and if you stick with them, that's agreement to their TOS) and then they pull back and say, welllll the cap is actually 250 gigs a month (I'm looking at YOU Comcast!) then I get a little riled up..

If this is truly unlimited data, well I'm sure a quick ROM flash or 'hack' will open up that tethering that HTC throws in from the get-go (that I'm sure Sprint locks down so they can charge for) or the hotspot ability (which is the same $hit when you're on WinMo and using WMWifiRouter..for free! ..well app costs, thats it) that comes included and heralded with Android 2.2 (which will come out for the Nexus and EVO sometime soon...crosses fingers)

Thanks to all who posted all the helpful content thus far in this thread...and the especially to the person who summarized 10 pages of updates from yesterday to today -- hilarious and provoked me to Register on here...good stuff!

Apparently in the Best Buy training (I was told out here in Denver) the additional cities (or at least Denver) that are to be getting 4G by "year end" will get it in August. I am sure the plan can change, but I was told that they were told 4G in Denver in August. Other cities set for the same timeframe? I am not sure..
