Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Well, I just broke down and called my local Shack and the Shack Dweller told me that he had heard of the phone but they currently knew nothing about pre-orders and he said "I heard it's coming out sometime in mid to late June." I just thanked him and played dumb but sounds like at least around here they haven't brought their people up to speed yet. Your results may, of course, vary.:)

Nelson

That is correct. RS is a lot less aware than BB. I called a few and I was told from all that since they don't know how many or even WHEN they're getting the Evo, they most likely won't even be taking pre orders.

Does anyone know or have paid Sprint for security deposit due to bad credit?

What's the minimum and maximum?

I googled this info and read on other forums that Sprint can charge as much as $500 for a deposit?

Anyone knows anything about this?

Thanks.

Usually only happens if you have bad credit. They will run a credit report on you, and if you fall into a "risky" category, they charge deposit amounts up to $500.

looks like it's BY 5/31 not on 5/31.... which would imply that pre-orders would start before 5/31. maybe the 21st as BlueScreen said yesterday, but honestly since it's on the website even hidden you could pre-order right now I would think....

Good point. Either way, I'm still on the fence about Radio Shack getting early release, but I'll have to make my decision by 1pm PST, cuz that's lunch time for me and I'll have to decide if I'm going to truck over to BB to pre-order or not.

For those out of contract..and planning on getting the EVO, I don't see what there is to fuss about the 10$ 'remove cap' fee...I def use the PAM feature at airports and traveling (hotel broadband all depends on where you are, PAM always works and reliably...even at 3G , beats most hotel offereings)...it's saved my ass and let me work while my cable internet is down or whatever the case might be. Paid for itself many times, and I have to be cognizant of the 5gb cap (im one of those people...and no, not pr0n dl'ing lol)

First of all welcome...

I could be wrong, but the $10 is for having an Evo, it has nothing to do with PAM. That feature is $30 more on top of the $10.

Keep me honest people...

Its not all about not being able to afford for people but sprint is forcing 99% of the people to pay for something they will never use. Because the few lucky ones have 4G most of us don't and I have to pay for it. Its the principle of it. Besides better hardware which is all thanks to HTC the Evo really dosn't add anything extra over the Hero. I can't believe some people don't have a problem with this. You are giving sprin $10 extra for absolutelly nothing.

It removes the cap for 3G, so its not something for nothing. Also, as I have mentioned in another post, if you're in an area thats not covered in 3G, you still have to pay the same amount as those that ARE covered in 3G, so how is that any different?

Who LIKES paying more? But how many of us are even shocked that they priced a high end phone for such a low price? They're still in the business of making money and it costs Sprint a lot more than $199 to get the phone from HTC I can guarantee you that much.

I just pre ordered 2 phones at my local BB. The rep told me I will be receiving a call on June 2nd for an in store pickup. He said that people who pre order will get the phone a day or 2 earlier to avoid the lines from the street date release. I am not sure if all best buy's will be doing the same thing, I am just excited to have mine lined up.( I was the first one to pre order as well, even the store manager was there to confirm that they will call as soon as they receive the units in the store. Best of luck to you all!!!

The first Best Buy I went to had no idea about how to do the presale cause they had not checked their email yet lol. Went to another one close to my house and they got me all set up. It was 10:30 and they had only been open for 30 minutes. I was the 3rd person to preorder one. I asked if im guaranteed to get one on the 4th now and she said as long as we get at least 3 you will. I'm thinking they will get plenty more than 3 but I guess we'll see.

THANK YOU! About time someone's said it. Everyone's looking for a free lunch these days it's ridiculous.

That's bull.. I just want to be able to use what I'm paying for. I don't have 4G available yet when it is I will pay the $10 but why should I and probably 75% of Sprint customers pay for something we can't use when no other Sprint customers with 3g only phones (which EVO is right now) have to.

I had to pay a deposit of $125, which was the norm when I worked at the Shack, but this was back in 2004 so I'm not sure if their policies have changed.

not really considering I've been using smartphones for the past 7 years and have never gone over my cap.

Neither have I, but by the time I pull a few Netflix and tv episodes, do a few voice chats that are always best while on vacation or traveling, and stream SprintTV, I don't want to even be thinking about a cap.

I never considered going fast in a car important, but when I got to go to a test track and do some driving I didn't do it in my Mazda. I can't wait to do some of the multimedia, web, and data driven things this thing can do. I haven't wanted to before because I wanted a larger, faster, better device to do it with. And I'll never carry the digital camera or recorder again and might as well perma-mount my Garmin GPS since I'll be using this when I travel:)!

Okay this might be off-topic, but I don't see a topic anymore just people complaining about prices and availability...anyway here it goes.

I had a dream that I just got my evo, and then sprint said they were releasing a better one in a few months with a 3.2mp front camera, Super AMOLED 4.5" screen, 2000mah battery, android 2.5 and a bunch of other stuff. It was a serious FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUU moment for me xD

Just wanted to say that o_o

I'm sorry, but if you can't afford an extra $10/month, you probably shouldn't be shelling out $200 for a new phone in the first place! And if you DO really want it, but think you can't afford $10/mo, eat at home twice a month instead of fast food, and you're set. Or skip your Starbucks a couple times a month. It's not that hard to come up with $10 bucks. Believe me, I don't even have a job, and I'm not worried about it!

Ding, ding, ding! There's the winning answer right there.

Let's put it all in perspective. How much is high speed internet at home on average (my guess: $30 - $50 per month on the average)? That's $360-600 a year. Sprint is offering you 3G speeds (still faster than dial up) AND 4G speeds (if available in your area, as close to hardwired home dsl/cable/fios connection as possible) wherever the heck you go at $10 per month ($120 a year).

To break it down even further, going on hopalee's example, $10 per month divided by 4 weeks (average amount of weeks per month), that's $2.50 cents per freaking week! If people are that desperate to get the phone and that extra $2.50 per week is so important, put on some tore up/worn down/dirty clothes, go to your local 7-eleven, and beg for change for a couple hours a week. I guarantee you'll get that $2.50 each week, without a hitch! Shoot, there's a couple local homeless people that I've seen do that every day at a stoplight in L.A. In a 30 minute timeframe, I saw a guy get 5 cars (on the average), per red light, giving him change every 5 minutes!

Can anyone help me please?

I am not with sprint but just got an referral to the EPRP program.

My plan was to make a regular account and Pre-order the Phone with Best Buy( to avoid the mail in rebate) then when I got the phone, calld sprint customer service and switched the plan to an EPRP plan.

Is this possible? can I go from a non EPRP to an EPRP plan so easily?

First of all welcome...

I could be wrong, but the $10 is for having an Evo, it has nothing to do with PAM. That feature is $30 more on top of the $10.

Keep me honest people...

You're definitely right...

but...this might be a grey area on this forum...it isn't over at PPCGeeks though...

People feel if you're paying for data...up/down...and the ability is built in via HTC from the get-go...that the 30$ PAM is incessant... many programs out there that turn WinMo phone or blackberries into a hotspot or allow tethering (and as long as you aren't downloading say via newsgroups, torrenting or surpassing your 5gb data cap, Sprint says nothing...and have said nothing for the past 4-5 yrs to anyone I know doing such)

All I'm pointing out really, the feature for tethering/PAM is built right in by HTC ... and the hotspot feature...built into Android 2.2 IIRC (and when it comes to the EVO)

The 10$ on top of so-called 'unlimited data' that's supposed to be included in the bas plan hopefully is truly a removal of any sort of 'cap' ...I realize Sprint has to make their money where they can, but why should the lock down built in features to a phone we 'can' buy out right and use the data streams on our phones or laptops (the WinMo community will alllll day long and continue to do so) .... it's sort of relational to the debate iPhone jailbreakers have w/ Apple...that they should be able to do as they want with the hardware they purchased and use it to it's potential...

I'm also hearing the cap isn't removed if you are still using 3G networks (even w/ the 10$ add data charge)...hopefully that's nothing but hearsay...

Ok but you're also getting your 3G cap lifted for the $10 a month. Even if you're in 3G you're probably going to use your data a lot more than you do now on your current phone and you could well go over that 5GB pretty quickly. Be glad this isn't Verizon who would have charged you $30 for 4G and lord knows how much for the hotspot.

Looking at that RS page, it looks like there will not be any early deliver, June 4th just like everyone else.

Blue fails again!

I called RS earlier... they called me back and said that nothing of the sort was going on.. June 4th like everyone else. The only difference is that I don't have to purchase a GC up front. So I'm going to pre-order at both just in case... I just don't know if I can leave something like this to an un tested source. I've never ordered anything thorugh the RS so BB it is.

It removes the cap for 3G, so its not something for nothing. Also, as I have mentioned in another post, if you're in an area thats not covered in 3G, you still have to pay the same amount as those that ARE covered in 3G, so how is that any different?

Think of it like this, you are paying $199 + ($10 * 24 months) = $440 for the phone...Not that cheap anymore, right? This is probably what happened,

Uncle Dan: "Ok, so how much is this phone?"
Hardware people:"It is going to be over $400 upfront for eligible customers..."
Uncle Dan: "Holy Jesus, are you sure? We are going to have to do something, no one is going to pay that much out of pocket for the phone"
Marketing: "we have an idea, lets offer the phone for $199 and divide the rest in 24 payments of $10, nobody will notice..."
Uncle Dan: "uhm, I like the idea, lets do the Old Jedi Mind Trick, I am pretty sure people will say it is a steal...Marketing genius, give this guy a raise, we can afford it now that we can charge $10 more for no apparent reason..."
Marketing: "YESSSS!!!!!!!"

I guess, but do you think he's got everyone calling him Uncle Dan....? :D

I feel for you. I got past my nightmares for things like this by thinking of it this way, whatever I get is the best I can get at that time. And the next time I'm ready, I'll do the same thing again. I only keep track of upgrades on things that I have when I'm ready to change again. There will always be something better faster, and I'm glad they allow me to buy now, use to the max, and then buy something even better later.

The only things I've ever had that cannot be upgraded or will never have a comparison are my wife, mother, family, and friends.:D
