Note 7 specs - whoa! (if it becomes a reality..)

Just read Evan Blass' article on the Note 7. Seems like they are going curved edge, based on the report out of Korea?

I know that's disappointing for some. I just hope that it means smaller overall dimensions than the Note 5. I'm also hoping that the rumors are incorrect and that the flat portion of the phone is actually 5.8 inches, but the curved portions make it 6.0. That would be fine with me.
 
I have never owned an edge device, so this will be new to me. Space for the S-pen may be at a premium on the screen, but admittedly it'll be one sexy phone. I can hardly wait for the unpacked event!

Well, looks like June 2 could be the unveiling. That's only 2 days!

-EDIT- Nevermind. I didn't thoroughly read through the article. Since it's not a Samsung Unpacked event, speculation is it'll be to unveil the new VR headset.

I'm surprised the possibility of a much dimmer display is not concerning to anyone else. If they do that I might just move on to a different phone from the note series.

Not a concern to me, as long as it is bright enough on auto, to see in sunlight, with sunglasses on.
 
Going dimmer on a display - just not gonna work for me. Seems a spin job - they need it for VR headsets, they need it to "save" our eyes from that terrible blue light. Sounds like a spin job to put a dimmer display in to me. Maybe for battery savings. Maybe to lessen screen burn-in (it happens in OLED). Maybe it just costs less to make a dimmer display. In any case, going significantly dimmer is not a good thing and I won't go for it.

But we won't know for sure, how significant it will be, until we see how it's implemented. Again, it really doesn't matter to me as long as it gets bright enough to see the screen through sunglasses on a sunny day. Other than that, I can't imagine that it would get so dim that the screen is unreadable. That's why it's really not something I'm concerned about.

It's already hard enough to see the display outdoors. Going dimmer will only make that worse. I use my phone outdoors a lot for my business and a dimmer display just won't cut the mustard for me. The nits, or brightness, of displays has been improving steadily over the years. Now we are supposed to accept them going significantly down? That's not gonna fly with me. Unless they somehow have a display with lower nits that is as easy, or more easy, to read outdoors in bright light as the N4 display. Don't see how that is possible. In any case, I've made my opinion known. To me this is a big deal and very possible deal killer for me with this phone.
 
I just need to get the physical dimensions, but I'd be down with a Edge setup like that. I don't know that it would be as squared off as indicated on the renders, but overall dimensions don't seem to be bad at all

The pic on the phandroid article is pretty small, so you can't see the dimensions, but Android Authority posted a much clearer idea of the size:

Overall, that would make for a smaller device than both the Note 4 and 5, assuming those dimensions are 100% the same as the production model. Either way, if it does indeed come with a microSD slot again, I'll be swooping up a Note 6/7 on release date!

The renders look nice. Not much wasted room at all. I don't need an edge display, probably will turn off it's functions anyway, but I can see why they are using it to maximize display to overall phone size ratio. The one thing I don't like about an edge display is that it is more prone to breaking if dropped on the side edges. I always use a tempered screen protector, and you really can protect the edges with any kind of screen protector. That's about the only downside for me, otherwise it doesn't make much difference. Real world use would be that actual determinant on how it would effect my usage of the phone however. I am still more concerned they put in some kind of anti-blue light display with significantly lower nits.

Really? I never had a problem with my 3 and haven't had any problems seeing outdoors with the Edge either. Well, I guess it really comes down to what Samsung feels will/won't work for the majority. Sorry to hear you had issues with it.

I don't know if "issues" are accurate, but it's hard enough to see displays outdoors in bright sunlight as is. I do have my N4 rooted (dev edition and have the "bright/auto/normal" hack installed, and when I put it on "bright" it is extremely bright and much easier to see outside. I only use it when outside and I need it though. So for me, going darker/less nits is a serious downgrade. Otherwise almost everything about the phone rumored I like (well not the non-removable battery, but I gave up on that a while back). Waterproof, smaller footprint (size of phone), much improved camera, more internal storage options, SD card slot, smoking fast processor, lots of ram, and heck even the edge screen I am ok with. The S7 edge is a really nice looking phone I have to admit. I just want the actual phone to be available for people to use so we know what we are really looking at overall.

Yeah, I can see why it would be so critical for you, if majority of your use would be outside in sunlight. We'll have b to see how the Implementation goes.
