Desire Firmware OTA Update

Mine's debranded. Do i use zip or exe?
 
Have the option to update my network-free Desire too but if I'm gonna lose WiFi, think I'll make do with it as is until further patched.
 
Whooops! seems everyone is experiencing problems,think I will leave updating alone, " if it ain't broke why bother trying to fix it"
 
Those like me who lost Wi-FI after the update. What type of Desires do you have?

Mine was a T-Mobile handset that I debranded and updated to 1.15.405.4 before running this update.
 
Could people experiencing the wireless problem tell us whether they had flashed to a generic rom before updating? (ie, did you debrand your phone at any time before you applied the update?)

edit: my thoughts exactly, weirdNumber. I reckon the user-debranded desires are the issue...
 
Yes, go ahead. It's the same firmware, just in a different package. The worst that could happen will be that you end up with the same wi-fi issue. But you won't :) Probably


Over on XDA, there are now four people reporting wi-fi issues and all of them debranded their Desires before updating.

So it's starting to look like maybe that's the issue.

Yes i had debranded mine from a HTC rom. Now ive had to go back to that rom and have lost everything off my handset.
 
Somehow cannot believe that HTC would send out an update that would cause everyone to have a problem their support center would be red hot with complaints

Yes, the version that is up for download at xda-developers is the same firmware version but it has a newer radio version than the update I received.
 
Anyone checked their (previously fine) camera and now see the dreaded pink centre on the resulting pcitures after the update ?

Happened to me - T-Mobile Desire, unbranded with generic firmware. Did this update today (was hoping it was 2.2 early!) and it killed my WiFi. "Unable to start WiFi" is all it says.

Have re-flashed back down to previous one.

Same here - unbranded T-Mobile with the same version number before updating. That looks like the common theme with the WiFi issue. Bugger :-(
 
Just flash it using the FW in the links above.

NB for anybody else reading this: the radio image in that firmware is reported to simlock some Orange phones. So think twice if you're on Orange.
 
A change ive noticed from this update is in text messages. In brackets beside the name of who its from it now displays the number of messages and I have come to the conclusion that I text a lot more than I realised lol!
 
My phone (unbranded) seems fine after the update.

It did, however, remove a small HTC clock widget that I had on my home page, together with a calendar widget and - on a separate home screen - widgets for Settings | Bluetooth, WiFi and GPS.

All seems fine after I added the widgets again manually.
 
Updated my unbranded sim free , Vodafone sim, fone. No problems, WiFi fine. If anything the reconnection to mobile network is smoother than b4. Only diff noticed is the (no of) texts by sender, and people icon now says HTC people!
 
Hmm - I haven't got the update yet, but something from my Nokia days reminds me...

Make sure your phone is in a 'normal' mode - so that means volume on, wifi, mobile data and normal mobile signal on when you apply a firmware update.

I remember Nokia phones losing the ability to connect through WiFI, or even worse, actually *ring* if you had your phone on wi fi off or silent mode following an update.
 
So any way of installing the update on the debranded handsets which wont break the Wifi and wont wipe everything off the phone?
 
Downloaded 1.21.405.2 onto my stock Desire. WiFi is working fine. BTW, the only difference I've noticed so far is that Youtube widget is displaying most viewed vids.
