Yeah I also don't get the whole taking out and putting back in the SD card I didn't do that at all and it doesn't show that in the video.

The video does not show the sd card trick, but the method he shows in the video does not work for a lot of people to get adb shell working.
 
in the command i cant get it to do cd sdk and i tried running it as admin it keeps saying the system can not find the path specified any idea

Are you typing this in:

1. cd\
2. cd sdk
3. cd tools

Then adb shell.

If that does not work, then it sounds like you don't have a folder in the C drive named sdk.
 
well i havent gotten root yet but getting closer and if you use the 2gb pony card do you have to continue to use it after you have successfully root?
 
Just to agree with the several people who have said this, I tried for 2 days using my 8gb Sandisk card. Bought the 2gb PNY card, and loop.bat worked on THE FIRST TRY. Just do it, then return it. It's like $11 and you get it back.

I respectfully disagree. :o Installing usb drivers for HTC Sync in Windows 7 is so easy my 6 year old niece could do it. Click the icon, done. There's no need to even have to go download the SDK (which is also blatantly simple) since the video creator provides the sdk folder with everything you need already. The process is very straight forward, I personally feel that the slower tech in the PNY class card is what allows for the loop to catch - I didn't take the time to research this, but in my experience this sounds like a very practical explanation.

My humble opinion is that anyone else still having problems after getting a class 2 (or whatever the pny is) just don't have the tech background that many of us do and little things we take for granted they are skipping or not grasping. Simple stuff like i read somewhere a user was trying to install HTC Sync drivers every time they retried the process, stuff like that - they asked why they didn't see the "bubbles popping up on the toolbar" I'm not trying to be condesending but I'm guessing it's just little stuff they aren't doing right that most of us just "know" from our experience. I hope that makes sense I'm tired. Also I remember at least twice thinking "he should have said that differently - it might confuse people" etc. but I don't remember what things they were. Maybe I'll watch it again and see if I can't help people - but the 2GB PNY card was only $12 at Staples so I don't know why it's a big deal that people can't just go grab one and then retry.

PS - I'm a VB, Java, C++ guy and in no way want to come off like I bust into cell phones everyday, I just have a strong gut feeling on this one by the 100's of threads that all end the same way (50 posts that the pny cards worked right away.) Hope a more user friendly option is released soon.
 
Got as far as getting stuff onto the phone. When I try to go back to adb shell I Keep Getting -exec 'system.bin.sh' failed: no such file or directory (2)-

When I do su I also get an error -
'su' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
 
oh my god, i'm so annoyed. it's not like this process is hard, but when i get to the recovery screen and do adb shell, i keep getting device not found. tried everything i could find to get it, won't work! how hard could this be!
 
Got my phone a week ago, could not get root with standard SD card adb shell would not launch.

Just received a A-Data Class 6 16 gig in the mail. First try the ADB shell launched and this video worked flawlessly to root my phone.

I've gotta be doing something wrong, but I'm following the video to a T. I can't get my computer to recognize my phone. Everything is fine up until I type adb shell then I get device not found.

i'm having the same problem. i've tried 3 different sd cards, including the 2gb pny and still no luck. i think i'm just going to have to wait until they put out an easier method. not that this one is hard, it's just starting to piss me off :rolleyes:
 
I've got ROOT! Thank you! I've been trying for a whole week! I think it all has to do with the timing of inserting the SD card back in the phone.
