Ugh, I feel like a youngin' posting in this thread.

US - With or Without you by U2 (May 1987.)
UK - Nothing's Gonna Stop us Now by Starship

Did anyone try finding their life's theme song? Mine is absolutely terrible. :(

US - Hollaback Girl by Gwen Stefani /facepalm
UK - Lonely by Akon /double facepalm

Naah all madness aside this was on my birthday quite an awesome and lovely song if I do so say my self :)

Los Lobos - La Bamba - YouTube

There was no choice for South Africa so just chose USA instead! :D

Just think if it was the original La Bamba sung by Ritchie Valens. Kind of sad what happened to him and all the other artists that died that day. If you wiki that event, kind of chilling to hear the accounts of that day and the scene.

Blasphemy!

Haha, there was plenty of good 80s music. For example, it was the age of pre-suckage Metallica, the 80s also brought us Slayer, Testament, Helloween, and Pantera. It's just 80s pop that makes me want to dig out my eardrums with a tiny spoon.

Edit: dumb autocorrect doesn't know who Helloween is.

^All that stuff you just listed is the suckage. You had to be there, man.

We are entitled to our opinions. But I actually was there, albeit in diapers. Out of curiosity, what was the good music to come out of the 80s, in your opinion?

Opera, Symphonic, Country, Rock and Roll, Bluegrass and even some pop. Lots of great stuff from the 80s. Perhaps you could narrow things down a bit and at least propose a genre? Then Bob--AKA Dr. Music--can help you find some glorious 80s music.

Auf Wiederseh'n Sweetheart - Vera Lynn 9/11/52 (yes I'm ancient)

Not all together a bad love song. Certainly nothing to write home about though. I made it to the almost halfway mark before I couldn't stand listening any more. As much as I love music I was hoping for much more.

US: Shakedown - Bob Seger
UK: La Bamba - Los Lobos
Aus: Respectable - Mel and Kim

Ugh I feel young thanks to other posts here :D :p but I am kinda disappointed that I didn't get better songs

I'll direct you to Spirits Having Flown . . . not every Bee Gee song sucks. Actually none do, really.

Also, give a listen to Alone.

I think the hate of the Bee Gees is tied to the hate of all things Disco. The older generation holds ties to the Rock and Roll era and the younger generation has adopted the whole anti-establishment mindset which has created the perfect storm for hating all things Disco.

I personally don't have a problem with Disco. It was the popular music for that particular era and ran its course in our society.

I can't help but wonder when anti-establishment of the anti-establishment will become popular and people will just start to spontaneously combust when they've realized that they've come full circle with the whole anti-anti-something or other. The one that I still find amusing at is the whole Apple culture. I actually remember when owning an Apple was counter-culture and unconventional. It was "sticking it to the man", being "different", now everyone and their mother has to own something Apple, and with that comes those that are anti-Apple. I guess we've come to a place where it's better to be anti-something than pro-something. Maybe I'd better stop now before I create the culture of anti-rantism....

Symphony No 2 in B flat Major by Felix Mendelssohn. While it could be argued that there were other popular songs during the August of that year, I fail to remember any.

Obviously not the original, but most definitely beautiful.

lol, I guess we can't have our vampires saying they were born when something like mmmbop was #1 on the charts.
