2.1 rooted!

I did the below steps, without reverting back to .5. Worked great and very easy. Using cSrOm 2.1.6 ROM. Below is from the XDA site and from Swapped, so thank him.

Super Easy Way to Root Sprint .6 Release (might work for other carriers also)
Download the app from this post (or the one attached here) to your phone and install with Astro or the like.

Run app, select appropriate version, hit root. Wait ~30 sec, see root confirmation. You are now rooted!!!!

Need a super easy way to get recovery image installed? Download ROM Manager (free) and install the ClockworkMod Recovery. You can now install roms with either ROM manager or thru recovery. You can even flash alternate recovery (RA 1.6.2) from rom manager.

This is stupid easy!!!!

I just did these exact steps about 10 min ago and it worked flawlessly. No messing with RUUs.

Not sure if boot-patched.zip should be flashed afterwards like in the original 2.1 root. Someone else please chime in on this.

The post above yours is the way to go. Follow those links and you will be rooted in no time. Go to the Market and buy ROM manager, Root explorer, and Root manager. Spend a little cash to support the Devs giving us all these cool tools.

ok i have Fresh 1.1 on android 1.5 and i want to update to the new rooted version of 2.1 or whatever its at now...

i read the instructions and am still confused.

do i need to update to Sprint's version of 2.1 before i can use this update found on XDA [GUIDE] How to Root Sprint 2.1 Release for CDMA Hero - xda-developers

or should i just wipe my phone and literally follow that step by step?

If you have a recovery image and are still rooted, you can flash any rom you want

i have recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2.img from the Fresh 1.1

i really wanna update but have been avoiding doing so because i simply do not understand HOW to update without accidentally getting the sprint version (which i understand may have blocked the ability to root the phone)

basically i want Fresh but for 2.2 or whatever we are running now.

There is only 1 froyo rom right now which is the CM6. NO Sense UI.

I gave you the link to fresh 2.4.0, follow the steps to update to 2.4.0

Hey everyone, I was just curious if there's a way to root a Sprint Hero without HTC Sync (Using the USB cable) Some scumbag at work stole my cable, and I'm a pretty broke dude. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
feel free to email me. goldeneye_doak@hotmail.com

htc is pretty liberal about sending new cables. i just received one due to the previous one's jacket coming apart near the end. OR just go find any mini usb to usb. i bet if you look around, you could find one used for a dollar.

There is an app for that ;)

I think in that thread there is a link that can help you get the app and get set up to root. I'm not very familiar with it it all, but post in that thread and you will get all the help you will need, I'm sure.

If you do, I have, not one, but two Heros already rooted. Both running custom roms and stable as a rock. For sale if you need them. Both are mint condition.

One bit of advice I can offer is to write down all the steps before you do it. This little bit of organization helped me through the first couple of times.
