2.2 Froyo for the Captivate Discussion

History repeats itself!

Elena was righteous about the update coming within days!

(I'm assuming that AT&T will NOT let itself be outdone by Sprint....)

s.m.knipe - http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/sprint_samsung_d700/1506bdf2e04b.update-SPH-D700_DI18ToDK28.zip

Best luck, I tried - http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/att_samsung_i897 but got a 404.

Let me break down the url:
Standard google server info

sprint_samsung_d700/
Google's product id for the Epic

1506bdf2e04b
This is the file location on the server (?)

.update-SPH-D700_DI18toDK28.zip
The file name and important part we need to figure out...

Based on this I would wager the first part is:
Http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/at&t_samsung_i897/ ? .update-SPH-I897_ ?

So what we don't know is:
1. The server file path
2. The revision of the JK update

For # 2. Someone could check to see what the latest leaked version was numbered and we know it will be higher...

I have no idea how to guess at # 1 though. Maybe someone who knows a little more about servers can make sense of " 1506bdf2e04b" in trends of Sprint and a sprint update? Or someone could try to find / post the url for the JH7 update. I am at work and all I have is my phone... Thanks for whatever people find...

Im thinking it must be JH8 because aren't the leaked version that?
I checked to make sure that 1506bdf2e04b was not in hex or base64 but its just random numbers and letters O_O

so it would be something like JH7toJK8?

so we got so far
http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/at&t_samsung_i897/(something).update-SPH-i897_JH7toJK(something).zip
I'm thinking that something is 8 maybe someone running a leaked version can update us?

Well remember that the "JH7" literally means the 7th revision of the "JH" build, so it could vert easily be "JK2" if they only revised it twice. I think there is a JK version floating around out there somewhere though, so 1-4 are probably not the revision number. It could easily be "JK20" if they had to revise it 20 times.
Heck the N1 Froyo build is up to like FG91a or something like that now...

so its effectively useless for us to ponder the almost infinite number of possibilities for the release ID and which version of the reason the update is!?

Not necessarily, but yes, at this point. If anyone knows the build of the latest froyo leak that was out like last month, it would give a starting point...
I am more worried about that server file path that precedes the filename. Does anyone have the url for the jh7 update? It might be the same (if we are lucky)...

Okay the last leak I see record of (by googling and searching xda) seems to be "JJ4" which is a november build, maybe we should try "JK4" or "JK5" or "JK6" ... It might be higher, but that seems to be the range the previous leaks have been within...

Also, I just noticed that the captivate is preceded by "SGH" in some cases, so the "SPH"'s in the url above might actually be "SGH"'s...

This is all assuming that there is a release build out of the captivate, and on the google servers. How did they figure out the url for the epic????

Supposedly the release is simultaneous (as per "thedroidguy" from twitter and Android and me... Also, once established correctly we can keep checking until we can get it... When I grabbed the russian 2.2.1 update for my N1 it was like four days before the ota notifications went out. In both cases someone either monitors google's servers or somehow fit the update early and grabbed a log of the process which includes the url the updater directs the phone to to download the update file.

I've tried everything I can think of... Also, I need the url for the jh7 update as I think that file path part will be the same...

I posted it at xda, so heres to hoping someone had it...

Over at the epic forum it's looking like the "official" release isn't really official. To me it's sounding like this a) test epic got sent an OTA b) this got leaked c) inside the code the url was found d) now everyone can download and update e) bugs found, major ones at that like the stock music player and gallery not working anymore, sprint denies there's an update f) speculation that epic users are being used as beta testers crop up. I know it's on googles servers but I'm having my doubts that it is the official release. Not everyone over there is experiencing the bugs but it seems to me quite a few are, granted it could just be because they are updating abnormally. I don't know, but my doubts have gone up a lot since last night. I'm still betting on december 15th release.
