2.2 Software fix update coming...

I experience all of those problems addressed above + when I unplug my Droid X from my wall charger, my screen goes black with just the backlight glowing. and it will stay this way forever until I press a button. I have to press the HOME button to get the lock screen pulled up. =/. Other than that, 2.2 works like a dream. lol

Hopefully it comes out soon, but to be honest I'm running Apex 1.0 and any major bugs that I had, are gone with this ROM.

If you have not done so already and are impatient, think about rooting and installing a custom ROM on your phone.

Cheers.

It's weird. Mine comes and goes now. I'll get FCs one day then none the next day. No real difference in use and I don't usually ever turn my phone off

I too am getting antsie about this update. It was very strange, I only experienced maybe 3 or 4 random reboots before they announced that they were coming out with a fix for the 'random reboot' problem. I was like, "ha, I don't need it, random reboots are not a problem for me"... then WHAMOO, random reboots suddenly started coming quite frequently. WTF???

So I started to go through my apps and deleted a bunch that I rarely or never used. Sorted through a lot of 'like' apps and picked the best one of the bunch and uninstalled the rest. Cleared my cache, tried tweaking my 'Autokiller', SetCPU, messed around with my OC... turned off my OC, froze a few apps that were using a lot of memory such as 'Moon Phase'... the only reason I froze it instead of uninstalling it was because I'd paid for it and I like it and didn't really want to get rid of it, but I wanted to see if it was the problem.... but nothing helped really.

The most annoying thing is that most of my reboots come when I'm on the phone with someone. I'll be talking to them when suddenly my call drops. Then I look at my phone and it's booting back up, AAARRRGGGG!!! Not cool. So now I'm hoping this so called 'patch' hits soon so I can at least rule that out as a culprit for whats ailing my DX. If/when it hits and I'm still getting all of these stupid random reboots then I'll think about going with a popular custom ROM that people have had luck with. However I must say, if that doesn't even help then I don't know what my next move will be.

I hate to diss the X because it could very well be this update could smooth everything back over again. But all I will say right now is to anyone who bought this phone and has had this issue since day one, then I definately feel you if you've jumped on here and complained about this phone. I didn't have this problem for the longest time, it only just recently started happening. But if it had been like this since day one I would be very unimpressed with this guy I can tell you that. I've heard countless people complain about iPhones dropping calls, well this is even worse since it has nothing to do with Verizons service and everything to do with the CPU getting overloaded and shutting the phone off on me right in the middle of a call.

Which is odd because I never thought a call to be a major CPU intensive task? Man I sure hope they don't drag their feet with this update much longer. I don't know how much more of this I can take before this phone accidentally falls in the toilet so's I can go get a different one. I'm just not a fan of refurbs, that's the only thing that has stopped me so far.

And I'm normally a patient guy. A guy who wouldn't let something like this get the best of him usually. But I'd been troubleshooting my phone for several days trying to run down the problem (I wish there was an app that scanned your phone and found unstable apps for you) and was hoping I had it taken care of, and then while on the phone having a nice conversation with my daughter my phone randomly rebooted itself not once, but twice. I came really close to throwing it the second time, I was that frusterated. Interupting a quality call with my little girl who lives all the way across the country did not bode well with me at all.

@Outlaw - I see that you've modded your X quite a bit. Could it be rebooting because you've OCed, flash unstable rom or using autokiller? I don't know...I find it weird that it would just start acting up out of the blue.

When someone simply makes a post about the issues that they have been experiencing, it in no way gives you the right to be unnecessarily rude to them. This type of behavior will not be tolerated at Android Forums.

Now let's get this thread back on the right track..

Before the update all appeared fine on my dx,

after the update first thing I noticed was the wifi disconnect/connect loop that was never ending , until you changed the setting on router and then even sometimes requres the router to be rebooted with no settings change , other wifi devices have no issue at all .

when on a call and get a text message or maybe email message to I hear a beep that makes me think I have a call waiting .

random reboots ,real random but reboots all the same

,oct 17th first call related issues in mi. , I could not hear them or them hear me, and I couldnt end the call, had to battery pull to reset phone, a repeat of that event again on oct 24th this time in nc. I had to do another battery pull

newer stuff: battery manger F/C at times

I already have done 3 resets after froyo , 2 of those resets invovled making sure all my settting where set to disable all backups, and one step further when I formated SD card.

I think these are all software issues since none existed in 2.1, I am not rooted , very few apps, and I did the graduall adding then back on on my final 2 hard resets (power button, while holding homebutton,,,,etc way).I just hope the update gets here by spring ;)

I'm just wondering if these are OS issues or app issues. I'm on 2.2 not rooted and I haven't had any of the problems you mentioned. i think it's interesting how some are having trouble while others don't, but yet we al have the same phone with the same OS.

I've ran autokiller on 3 different devices, with all kinds of different setups and it has never caused an issue for me. And I run it on the ultimate setting(highest available)

the only time i've had the random lockup/reboot was after not shutting off the phone for a week

anyone heard from moto forums on when this update is coming out?

I wouldn't say my phone is heavily modded. It's rooted, and I had used Beesley and FreeWELL's method to OC the phone. But I've never flashed a ROM, it's not deodexed, never tried any themes... pretty much a stock phone that's been rooted, which isn't unusual I don't think. I did download the DX/D2 Overclock app off of the market and was using that instead of the Beesley zip. I had it OC'd to a few different speeds, but when it started rebooting, I changed it back to stock. When that didn't help I pretty much forgot about the program because I wasn't really using it, it was set to stock. I'd erased the Beesley zip off of my SD card and was trying all sorts of other things, but the instability remained.

Then last night I went in and froze the DX/D2 Overclock app just to rule it out, even though it was set to stock. I haven't had a reboot since. 24 hours is pretty good, because it was getting as bad as a half dozen a day in the past few weeks. So perhaps I've nailed it down, it was strange because when I OC'd using Beesley's zip it didn't make my phone unstable. So I don't know what it would be about that app that's not jiving with my DX.

Has anyone else downloaded the DX/D2 app off of the market? If so, have you experienced any random reboots lately? Just wondering if it's just my phone not liking it, or if there is something wrong with that app.

Mines finally where I like it - Rooted, modded, bloat free, overclocked, extended batteried. When this thing comes out, ill let ya'll play with it, and if there are any goodies I can use ill let the modding community take care of getting it to me :)

Could this be what the replacement dx's are shipping with? There is a thread in the root section with ascreenshot of system version 2.3.151 instead of the 2.3.15. He claims he has a new bootloader also (30.04). I can confirm the new system version on my replacement dx that I received tuesday. I have not checked the bootloader.

They won't change the kernel, right? As in they won't have to figure out how to root it all over again... they didn't have to do that with the update to 2.1, so I wasn't anticipating that would be the case with this update either. Sure hope not.

Saw it on several other sites as well. Due around 11/23. Most likely will be the fixes everyone is screaming about as well as crappy VCast App Store.

Please tell me what is wrong with my phone so I can gripe about it.

LOL- I'm waiting for the update just to see if my phone's performance improves even more over what I've seen when I OTA'd to Froyo (battery life doubled and then some). I've had the batt mgr FC but nothing else others have mentioned above - my DX has pretty much been rock solid and dependable for me out of the box.

Compared to the phones I've had in the past, the DX has been the least worrisome and most trouble free smartphone I've ever owned. But I do feel for those who are having problems...I've been there with my previous Palm [not so] smart phone.

Not to say that my DX is perfect or without any issues - but I haven't noticed any showstoppers since I got it a couple months ago, no reboots, dropped calls, having to hold it right-handed, etc:D.
