WOOHOO I got an update! wait.... calm down.... i didnt get the update that everyone is waiting for :-p I just got update to 1.6 from 1.5... the only difference i recognized is that "skin"/border thing when you open the camera up now...

For those of us in Canada stuck on 1.5, could you or someone else confirm this?
 
what can we expect to see from the update? being an old storm owner everything was always really random. The good thing though was that I got the phone when it first came out and had it for a year and their was noticable difference of the usability of the phone after each update :-). this mytouch seems to be pretty easy to use for a touch screen device, but i would like to see the swiping feature between pictures :-).... as for the dude above that wants confirmation of 1.6... really? I thought everyone had that version... i guess i could use my wifes to take a pic of my screen and then post it... if youre really serious...

Just remember that the G1 may be marginal in the memory area to effectively run 2.0 and that would be worse for the G1 to cripple it with an OS that was constantly running low on memory and bogging down ... I hope that isn't the case, but I for one am prepared to accept that possibility.

 
It's kinda funny that I received whole bunch of new apps "update available" notification but not for the system update.
Did anyone notice the same?

yes, we've had 1.6 on tmobile mytouch 3G now for awhile

think there was an article somewhere that Rodgers in canada would not be updating to 1.6 - something about rodgers was trying to lay the blame at HTC's door and it was actually Rodger's that didn't want to offer it

hope you're not with Rodgers

Unfortunately yes, I am with Rogers with nearly three years left in my contract. It never crossed my mind that they wouldn't update the phone when I got it, I thought that was part of the Android experience and the Iphone one too. It's true Apple fanboys are locked into an ecosystem, but it is a system.

Now here we are , a bunch of us, no Rogers Android upgrade path and Google only selling their Nexus that works on a small subset of the wireless carriers. I blame Google for this too. They are great with coming up with new things but as for good old capitalist cutthroat market savvy, they are neophytes. They should have forced the carriers to do the updates and provide access to paid apps. Here in Canada we have neither.
 
inquiring about the update

a friend of mine, lives in NS, across from my camp there, came down to help us at an exhibition / trade show in another industry
i could not believe the phone bill he had for maybe 15 conversations (he's with rodgers), almost $300 - rodgers is a good example of why monopolies shouldn't be allowed to exist in a competition free environment

it turns out my Tmobile partners with rodgers should i travel up there with it - cost for roaming is .49 cents a minute - outrageious - i don't pay that calling back to the states from switzerland

Yeah, our favorite FB fanpage is predicting the 5th now, to coincide with the Nexus One announcement.

Not at all sure why they think the two things would happen simultaneously.

I don't care. We'll get it when we get it. :)

common instant you know you care... do yoi have a myouch? i know that 8/10 mytouch users complain of the phones lag and instability. Im sick of it to the point i regret getting this phone

ps: the 2 that dont complain dont know any better cause its there first smartphone and they think its godly

Second smartphone here, and it's worlds better than the first (T-Mobile Shadow running WM6, i.e. biggest POS ever). The only thing that I find an annoying lag on is the contacts list (which seems odd, being probably the second most important function on a PHONE).

I'm not saying that I won't be pissed if we never get it, or even if it takes an unreasonable amount of time to be distributed. But come on, Eclair was just put out, what? Two months ago? I'm not often patient, but I'm not gonna lose sleep over when this OS gets to us.

P.S. is the "8 out of 10" the result of a scientific survey? What was your sample size? ;)
P.P.S. most people abbreviate my s/n to Karma. :D

If you felt it's been laggy the whole time, why were you praying for the update? Did you feel that the update would make the device run any faster?
I am probably one of those two not because I do not know any better but I probably do know much more how they work and I do know what to expect from such devices.

Have you tried installing Windows 7 on Pentium 3 hoping it would run faster than when running Windows XP?

No offense but your post makes no sense at all..
 
but if you think about it, it would be foolish for Tmobile to release it before they release the new Nexus Once - and actually to delay releasing 2.xx for awhile after the N1's release - not having 2.x on the MyTouch3G gives those owners some impetus to upgrade to the N1 -

frankly, i'll be surprised if we see an upgrade to the MyTouch 3G before the end of January, if then

and i must be one of those 2 out of 10 as i've experienced no lag - i've only had a couple of issues that as soon as i uninstalled whatever app i downloaded just before the issue surfaced, the issue vaporized - and as far as the lag, i've now had a chance to compare my MT3G to a couple of G1s and sorry, but my MTG3 is no slower and actually seemed faster - i tested or compared while using google map navigation

that could be true, but aren't most MT3G owners on a two year contract? How many MT3g owners on a contract would pay the full price for the N1?
 
you've got a good point - i caught mine off ebay to avoid getting tied to a contract
but still would expect some would pay to upgrade - it's surprising me how, on some of the forums there are folks who actually seem to buy them (newer phones) like they're comparing them for themselves - and i don't mean the inexpensive models
