3dEvo: Pre-release miscellany

I'll be waiting for about a month before I get it. I want to hear real world reviews of it before I buy it. Mainly I want to see how the battery is with everyday use.

+1 Equally important, I am waiting to see if they have finally fixed the screen lift/light leakage problem. I went through 3 Evo 4G's (all had the same problem) before I finally gave up and gave back my Evo. I loved that phone, but the HTC service rep specifically told me that if the screen was lifting, take it back. He would not tell me the extent of the long term issues with a lifting screen, nor would he admit it was problem. He would only say... take it back to your local sprint store. Three was enough to cause me to turn it all back on day 29. I was very bummed. Now I anxiously await the release or gen 2. I have to belive that they have fixed this adhesive problem.

So you want us to believe you received 3 brand new EVOs with screen lifting issues? I'm going to raise the BS flag on that one.

I know you should not have to deal with something like this but I have had a minor light leak/screen lift since day one and so has my wife....it never got worse and never affected the enjoyment of the phone. Sorry you have missed out on a year of a VERY good device. I hope you get what you wish for in this device.

I will say that after every device comes out, there is a huge uproar of all of the issues with the phone....happened with this phone and happened with all iPhones. So take that initial burst of discontent with a grain of salt........to put it another way, do you hear people talking about screen seperation anymore??? Nope!!! And it is not because it doesn't happen. It is just because people finally realized it wasn't a big deal. Should it have happened from a QC standpoint...No, it should not have. But having hindsight and looking back, I don't regret it one single bit. I just wish you would have been along for the ride with us!!! It has been a good one....a very good one!!!

screen separation was truly limited to an early production batch. The fact that it got so much attention was because there was so low available stock that people were getting refurbs with the same issue. Basically the pool of defective phones weren't getting fixed properly and were being recycled around. It made the issue seem to last longer than it should have.

I actually don't call the BS flag on this; I know lots of people who replaced their phone only to get a refurb with the exact same issue. And this would happen repeatedly.

ok back on topic: I will never stand in line for a device on opening day just on principle. These things are not necessities and therefore I'm not going to act like there's a shortage of food and I have to stand in line to ensure my family gets fed.

I raised the BS flag on his receiving "3 BRAND NEW PHONES." If he received refurbished phones I could understand that. Everyone knows that refurbished phones sucks.

I got an evo in october when sero-p became available and my evo had screen seperation and pretty good light leakage.

ended up just returning it as I figured if it wasn't fixed yet i wasn't going to try and get a good one. the e3d will go back if it has similar issues.

Did anyone ask any of the Sprint Reps whether they have received training on the phone yet? That's the key question.

I went to the Mall of America store and the lady there was not very helpful, but she did tell me that she "saw the Evo 3D but didn't like the screen". I would assume this is the training but I'm not sure.

Didn't, like the screen? Why?

Ok, I am not buying this now until I've seen the device turned on and operational.

What could she possibly not like? :(

Yeah, unfortunately, it's been my experience that most employees at MoA are unhelpful compared to other places. Ymmv though.

Side note: Also in the Cities area, eh? Nice to see another person around here on the boards. :D

She said that she couldn't see the 3D effect and she preferred the screen and "instant software updates on the Nexus". She was really pushing the Nexus, so maybe it wasn't a fair observation/she was trying to discourage me. I won't read into it too much.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't go back to that store. Good thing I preordered at the Maplewood Mall BB Mobile.

Yep, TC reporting in! It's always fun to find a fellow Minnesotan :D

It's true, MoA is kind of in its own little world. I wouldn't go there for any quality current info. Although you would think being in such a high traffic area they would be like a flagship store.

There are a few of us around here in the Cities :)

I wouldn't worry about the screen, all the reporters at CTIA seemed very positive and couldn't say a bad thing about it (besides that the 3d effect doesn't hold up if you are at an angle, but thats true for any of these "glasses-free" 3d screens).

Sounds like the MOA sprint rep was just trying to sell him a phone that day, cause she wanted the commision. Also if she is a manager type, I could see them trying to sell as many Nexuses and other phones right now because once the EVO3D comes out thats all anyone will want and they won't be able to keep them on the shelf.

I am also from Minneapolis! Representing Western Suburbs, Yeah! I pre-ordered mine at the Best Buy in Ridgedale. Guys actually asked me if I knew when it was coming out lol. This was almost 2 weeks ago. I told them I had heard June 8th, and didnt get a reaction.

Another one from the twin cities here:cool: Stay away from the MOA shops. They're targeted towards the wonderful tourists. :D

Preordered my EVO from the Sprint in Minnetonka. Oh, also have one at BB in Mtka as well.

Wow, all sorts of MNers here. I ordered mine over at the Woodbury Best Buy, and at the time, they knew nothing about it other than the preorder. Awesome to see a few of you around, although it appears we're all in different places. Heh.

I used to live like...a mile from the Maplewood Mall, and had I not moved a year ago, it's likely that that's where I'd be getting mine too.

Anyway, trying not to get too hyped until there's an official announcement. Also interested to see some reviews from people who are supposedly getting the Sensation these next couple of days...should give something of an impression of how the 3D will perform.

Bro, I don't think there is anything that will stop me from buying this phone......PERIOD!!!! I am gonna be all over this thing like white on rice. I could care less about anyone's opinion at this point.

Amen.
If the EVO 3D's screen is the quality of the N 3DS, its not gonna be a bad deal at all, only better cuz its a bigger screen.

That being said, even IF the 3D effect is not so great, Im buying this phone for SOOO much more than 3D. My EVO 4G experience has been simply amazing, and the new EVO 3D will top it in every way. The specs are breathtaking (with or without 3D).

Speaking of small world, I see Ben is from Phoenix. Me too! ;) I pre-ordered mine at the Best Buy in Surprise, Az. :D

I'm sure the phone is going to be amazing. I keep going back and forth between this one and the S2. It just feels like overall the fans of the HTC products are happier with their phones. That's making a big impact on my decision.

And don't take this the wrong way; but the "geek" crowd seem to be HTC fans. I'll trust a tech-head over anyone when it comes to technology.

Plus, the Evo3D comes out when I need to get a new phone. Which is very, very soon.

Well the nexus does have the samsung amoled screen which a lot of folks really like (rich saturated colours). This is of course a matter of taste and doesn't mean too much (assuming she has seen both). When the galaxy S first game out the immediate first glance really caught me; but over the past year it seems to have worn out on me (or maybe my mood has changed). The one big + is that it does work well outdoors.

The 3d effect won't be seen in general. Hum I wonder if they include a couple of 3d movies with the phone.
