4.04 or 4.05 update? When?

Not that hot in my area. And battery life could definitely be better. Its my understanding that will be addressed as well. I love the phone, it just needs to get the bugs worked out.

No you have the same radio as everyone else does but you are lucky enough to be in a well covered area.

No, actually I'm not. Far from it. I'm in what the Verizon 611 people referred to as a "fringe area". I'm not even in the "normal" 4G area, but an extended 4G area.

The fact that I have 4G in my house at all is pretty amazing. I use wifi at home for battery purposes, but for the first few weeks I left it on 4G only because I was checking to make sure this replacement didn't have the "drop all voice/data" problem. I would drop to 3G occasionally, but I was on 4G 90% of the time and was getting ~5Mbps down in the "bad" parts of my house and closer to 10 in the good parts.

Ladies and gentlemen, relating personal experiences is fine. Expressing your opinions about the quality of phones and coverage is okay, too. Getting snarky with other members is NOT fine. Let's make sure we keep it that way.

Thank you. :D

Personally, I'd rather wait for a well tested, solid release than have them rush a buggy one out that may in fact be worse than what we have now! Patience is a virtue!

All true. However, keep in mind the GSM Nexus has not been updated either.

QFT.

The facts are:

1) GSM and CDMA Nexii are on the latest ICS build released.
2) No one has ever promised a release date.
3) No other manufacturer has announced a release with a newer build of ICS.

Given the above, we're still getting what we were promised from a Nexus.

Once updates start rolling out to other devices/manufacturers and the GNex is behind, or they announce a date and it keeps getting pushed, then you all can start bitching about this phone not being a true Nexus or VZW screwing us again.

I don't want to root because I purchase material through the Play Store. My rooted Incredible can't open the Play Videos app because it does not operated on rooted devices. I have lots of purchased music, and rent movies from time to time and download apps that I'm afraid if I root, I will not be able to enjoy all the content I've purchased.

I don't think people are complaining about the device itself, I think we can all agree that there are bugs that currently prevent the device from being enjoyed at its full potential. I really like the phone, just anxious to know when the update is coming and will it hopefully address all the issues already mentioned in this and other forums.

The 4.0.3 update has starting rolling out to the HTC sensation variants, as well as the galaxy s2 in multiple European countries. Once all the gsm gs2's are updated, there will be millions of phones with a newer version of ics than us.

Actually back in January I think there was a document from VZW showing release dates for the various upgrades after 4.0.2. Like by Feb 6th etc....
One was in Feb and one was in Mar or Apr. It listed which problem or bug would be updated with which fix. It also listed some bugs that were deemed not warranting a fix. It looked like the update list put together for 4.0.4 that's on XDA dev.
My theory is that they will at least update whats in the 4.0.4 leaked version and probably add more, as such becoming 4.0.5 or 4.0.XXX.

For the life of me, I cant find the VZW document. I bought my phone on Jan 3 and I think it was right before or after that. Its probably somewhere back in the threads, but I cant find it. I'm kinda just hanging. All the unlock files are in there folder on my computer and tested....

Yeah unfortunately with Verizon, until it is rolling, who knows when it's going to come?

Was it this?

yep, thats it. Kinda proves they know the problems. Also proves they are way behind there tenitive release dates. So what else is new. I think there list is getting longer too....One item I'd like to see is a brighter screen. It sux in the sun.
thanks for digging that up.

Really? Even at 100% brightness my dinc (I had an SLCD screen, not amoled) was barely visible. I can get away with 60% and it's still more visible on the Nexus than my old dinc was. I've heard the screens do vary a bit in brightness, though. Also, if you're rooted, you can run a kernel with the ColorControl kernel feature which allows you to boost the brightness on R or G or B (or all 3). Might be worth a shot if your screen isn't that visible in the sun. :)

It'll be out when it's ready. I rather have what amounts to be a minor interim release and bug fixer actually fix bugs than create new ones! :)

I think some people tend to lose sight of the fact that we had ICS for a good three months before any other phone, so I'm not sure why there's any concern over the fact others are just now getting it. Sure, it's a X.X.1 higher version but since AOSP is 4.0.3, it should be no surprise that non-Nexus OEMs will be rolling out with that now...bugs and all.

The fact that they are taking this long on an interim release seems to indicate to me that they are putting out more fires than what we can see.

I don't quite buy that VZW is screwing up the updates for Gnex. If GSM one already got 4.04 or higher, then it makes sense. But that's not the case. It will come when it's ready, but they better make it damn worth this much wait.

I agree. We're still in March so hopefully we'll see the update before the end of the month. Sometimes I think it would be better if they just dropped the new updates without any leaks. That way there would not be any expectation.

I completely agree with the thought process of waiting until the next release is stable, however there are some bugs out there that need to be fixed sooner than later to take this phone to even the next level.

I'm not going to bother re-hashing all of them because this forum goes round and round on them daily. It's interesting...in the DINC forum, the conversation was always about innovation and making the most out of the device. In the Nexus forum there's not a lot of that type of conversation...just a lot of back and forth on bugs vs. non-bugs and 4G issues...oh and complaining about accessories that never come.

(Don't get me wrong, that's what a forum is for too...it just seems like there's less people talking about the cool things they do with their Nexus.) Speaking of which, I'm off to start a new thread about apps...

You can add me to the YES I AM FOOL LIST. Got the Nexus on Day 1. Still got it. Also gota BB Bold 9650 that is a better phone. I said phone. not text device or internet device. My problem is I bought a phone with the rest added on to it. Got to come up with a fix. My phone does for a fact in the same coverage areas as my other phone have issues to say the least. Now the internet and text part is very good. I am not in a 4G area at all.My problem is to have a phone or the net. Any suggestions. My BB 9650 will talk where most can not go. My Nexus will talk if you are in a decent coverage area. And we all know the browser on the BB's is a joke.

I say give the device a few more months and we should see the forums change to a more dinc-like attitude. Keep in mind that this device is still "new" and the Dinc is closing in on a year and a half now. Plus the Dinc is one of the best supported devices out there when it comes to devs. This device is VERY well supported, especially when compared to other devices, but the Dinc community is big and strong. Again I attribute that to the age of the device. But some info and support directly from the source would be nice to see. LISTEN TO US GOOGLE, WE WANT UPDATES, BUT COMMUNICATION IS JUST AS GOOD!!!! IF THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH THE UPDATE, THAN TELL US, DONT LEAVE US IN THE DARK!!!!

Maybe this not releasing as soon as we hoped is a good thing. It means they're ensuring as many bugs as possible are fixed. I'd rather wait an extra month and have a stable AOSP which means stabler custom ROMs than have it earlier and have tons of bugs that weren't caught. :)

Or it means they're simply not devoting as much time to it as they should or many thought they would be.

Yeah. That or there really is/was hardware issues with some early units that cannot be fixed via software, so they're awaiting attrition of those truly defective units via returns/exchanges. Otherwise, if an update gets pushed out that is incapable of fixing the unfixable, and there's still a majority of those defective units still out there, that will not go over well.

Just a thought, as I'm positive any manufacturer would opt for the route of letting bad product quietly slip away into the ether rather than admit that some made it out the door.
