6/21 Maintenance Update thread. Rolling out now.

Can anyone of the techies out there make a "list" of things that were improved, in this update?

I'm still on 2.2...and I'm very paranoid about upgrading to GB. Thanks.

I was on 2.2 as well, and took the plunge yesterday. I could not be happier! Seems like there was a few nice changes. Phone seems more snappy, testing battery life today. All apps seem find, didn't loose contacts. In fact i gave the all clear to three other evo users. Have not tested voice yet, but i did aee an option to speak in your own voice to make the search custom. I not gone through it yet....

How come when I try to open the netflix app it says no application found to open this file, is there something else from the market I need?

I had that issue, but I managed to resolve it by D/L the free Dual File Manager from the Market. Then I found out I had to go into the applications (in settings), check the "Unknown sources" box, then open the file in the file manager using the package installer program....it works beautifully!!

I'm sure there's an easier way, but that's how I did it. Good Luck!

Worked for me.

Well, my phone seems to be working fine now outside of the voice problem. It won't work at all when I'm in the car or if I'm outside and the wind is blowing. Sucks. But at least that's the only problem that I'm dealing with.

Also, I have noticed improved battery life for sure.

A couple of issues I'm experiencing:

-A constant flashing of the sync icon in the top bar which is truly annoying. Is anyone else getting this?
-Aforementioned speech to text
-HTC Sense has crashed on me 3 times since updating yesterday. Occurred after hitting Home button to exit an app
-EasyProfiles app has stopped working (this is an app issue vs. GB)
My HTC Sense crashes all the time and I have no available memory on my phone now. Granted, I do have an insane amount of apps but anything non-critical goes on my SD card or gets uninstalled. GB is terrible. I want to revert back to 2.2 where things were a bit more stable...

Fellow EVO users and super wonks:

Please explain to me to following:

Why is GB so terrible with memory in comparison to Froyo?

Why does HTC sense always crash?

Has anyone else had tremendous difficulty with Pandora being stable and even working sometimes?

Can we root GB yet? I really need to modify my start-ups and pre-installed apps by Sprint to free up memory...

Basically, I have to reset my damn phone 2 - 4 times a day because I get under 100MB of memory available. I've had to reset Handcent and clear the data in other apps that ran flawlessly on 2.2. Am I the only person having these problems or is this persistent throughout the 2.3 upgrade community on EVO's?

More buddy....thanks!

I'm still apprehensive... :)

I'd like to see Android OS stop development for a few years once they come out with a badass release that does everything well.

Is Honeycomb that release...or is it simply geared for tablets...anything special about Honeycomb? Will the EVO ever get Honeycomb? Will it be a cluster-F*!# as well when that happens?

Ice Cream Sandwich is the next OS from Andriod. It will work on both phones and tablet alike. . .(supposedly )

I have a rooted EVO running Gingerbread (rooted stock ROM). I know I can't install the OTA maintenance release. How do I install the maintenance release on my phone?

Update downloaded and installed. Didn't push to me. Went into settings to retrieve. Good news, my phone wasn't having issues before, still seems fine now. Netflix app works.

Hi drexappeal, I agree, I'm thankful for this thread too. Was waiting to see if you did the latest update, it's only the 22nd so I'm gonna wait just a little longer and I'm happy you still have no issues, that's what I was waiting to hear lol. If you don't mind me asking, did you do anythng special b4 you updated? Just curious.

installed latest update. Completed factory reset.

Here are my results based on what was broken on my Evo:

Folder Icons: Still Broken
Wireless N: Still Broken
Speak to Text : Still Broken when Bluetooth is on.
HTC Logo popping up issue: Fixed
Netflix: Fixed
Compass: Fixed

Concur. For me, add:

Folder Icons: Still Broken
Wireless N: Still Broken
Speak to Text : Still Broken when Bluetooth is on and when in a moving car (which didn't affect it before the update)
HTC Logo popping up issue: Fixed
Netflix: Fixed
Compass: Fixed

Well I still see a lot of people still having issue, so I thought I post a postive comment about the 2nd update... I had a few problems like the voicemail issue, and I never seemed to get that battery boost everyone was talking about, until the patch came out, and now I couldn't be happier. My Evo works great and with no hiccups, I just D/L the apk for netflix so I am going to reinstall that and if that works, then I am totally satisfied with the update and how my phone is working.

Good job!

Hey guys,

I've been following this thread (along with other closely related threads on this board and Sprint's board) as it relates to the GB update(s) that have rolled out. I hesitated to install the original 6/4 update until I was able to get some reviews and continued to hold out until the (mostly) positive reviews rolled in for the latest patch dated 6/20.

That being said, the update installed with no major issues. I do have a few of the quirks that people have been noting throughout this thread (Voice Input not functioning properly, no noticeable increase in battery life (actually, a little decrease)), but I have one that I've only seen referenced once on Sprint's board with no resolution, so I was hoping to get some insight here.

It appears that the internal storage decreases without the addition of any new apps, and once it reaches approx. 40-42MB throws up a "Low Storage" warning. I've gone through and cleared all of the caches for various apps, everything that can be placed on the SD card has been placed there, and I've added nothing new.

Has anyone else seen this behavior? I am not running a rooted phone.

I'd love some insight.

Why does HTC sense always crash?

Basically, I have to reset my damn phone 2 - 4 times a day because I get under 100MB of memory available. I've had to reset Handcent and clear the data in other apps that ran flawlessly on 2.2. Am I the only person having these problems or is this persistent throughout the 2.3 upgrade community on EVO's?
HTC sense is still crashing which is annoying.

I also have had to reset Handcent constantly.

I also still get the constant flashing sync symbol in the top bar. Once I restart the phone it occasionally will go away but return several hours later. This is something that started immediately after updating to GB.

Lastly I have seen no battery improvements whatsoever.

I still have problem #1 and #4. Never had the other 2.

But HTC Sense is crashes about once every 60 minutes when using whatever app, mostly when using stock browser.

My phone is also much less stable w GB. Memory issues, swype goes haywire every so often, certain apps no longer work properly... 2.2 was definitely BETTER.

I may be one of the lucky ones but I have yet to find an issue with the latest release..

I did not install the very first 2.3 update, I stayed on 2.2 until the June 21 update.

I have been running the apps that have been discussed previously (Netflix, Pandora, Handcent etc) ANd have not had any issues.

I did experience a weird thing with the Camera the other night.. I was trying to use the Flash to take a pic in a low lit area and it seemed that the flash and the "snap" were off because the pics kept comming out black(dark). So i went in to applications>manage applications and cleared the data in the Camera app. Tried again and Viola... it worked..

As per your Memory Issue, try moving some of your apps to your SD card. For those that dont know:

Goto Settings>Applications>Manage Applications
-Select the App you desire
-Click on Move to SD button

The app storage will be moved to the SD card, freeing up some internal storage space.
